I'm not complaining, I'm just curious. 1. What is the battery compartment on the back of the wired guitar for. 2. Why is activating overdrize so hard to do? I hafta like bend down all the way to the floor and flick my whole body upwards to activate it. I was much simlper with GH all u did was tip the up the neck. Anyway thanks for any help and/or input people.

1. Battery compartment is for the wireless controllers. The wired/wireless decision was probably up in the air till a very late time (cost and Microsoft issues) so the controller was probably initially designed as wireless. Secondly, a wireless version is definitely coming so having one plastic part for both controller types (wired, wireless) lowers production costs. Lower production costs are good.
2. Not sure. I have never had to go down/up with the guitar, simply from the normal position to more vertical. If you're used to the GH3 Les Paul controller then you will find it more difficult to engage overdrive in RB (since the Les Paul is ridiculously sensitive) but it seems to be very similar to the old PS2 GH1 controller in that regard.
Perhaps moving it rapidly is preventing the switch from activating as normal. I believe the switch is a gravity type mercury or solid steel ball type and moving it rapidly might "pin" it to the normal playing position. This is similar that a bucket full of water won't spill if you spin it around in a vertical loop real fast.
The alternate way for Overdrive/Star Power has been the select switch on the fact of the guitar. Looking at the RB strat I see it's "Start" and "Back" which is kinda confusing. Maybe "Back" activates overdrive in the same way "Select" activated Star Power.

That was an intelligent and well thought out response... I have only one thing to say.
A/S/L?

Thanks Frederf. I can totally understand the mass production of the guitar explaination. And I totaly get what you are saying about the tilt for overdrive. Actually though with guitar hero 1 I never had a hard time doin star power. I could just use my GH3 guitar but heck I paid for the full set so i should use it..lol Looking around I see actually the overdrive/tilt difficulty for the Fender Strat seems to a common comment on the forums. I'll give what u said a whirl and see if that corrects it. A lot of tech support problem stem from user error..lol
