View Full Version : Mic is fun, but really badly developed.

What kind of stupid thing is that you don't need to actually sing the words. All I need to do is go aaaaahhhhh in the right pitch and thats all it grades you by, their is no word recognition at all which is so stupid and badly developed kind of makes it loose the challenge to it.

The current state of the art technology can barely recognize words correctly when they are spoken slowly and clearly, never mind when someone is trying to sing them. Plus how many words in a song are that intelligible anyway that saying the exact word even makes sense?
The game does do some phoneme detection on parts of the song that are spoken (when there is no pitch bar to follow).

I'm happy about this...plus it's the same as their karaoke games, so no suprise at all here! I'd like to see you "aahhhhhhh" to all the songs on expert if it's not a challenge...

Soo...what you are saying is that you are a CHEATER?

I think it would be less fun if you had to exactly sing the right word...I like how you have to make sure you're in pitch.
For the rappy/talky parts of songs, im pretty sure it keeps track of what words you are actually saying...at least that's what I remember reading at one point. havent experimented with rapping different vocals yet.
Also, check out singstar/karaoke revolution...they do the same thing.

Not to mention unrealistic, since you can barely understand what many singers are saying anyway (Kurt Cobain, anyone?)

It's a technical limitation. Play the game, have fun.

The game doesn't use phoneme detection all the time?

I know! I was finally able to try out the vocals today and was SORELY disapointed!! My heart sank when quietly going "uhhhHHHHHHH-AAAAHHHHHHhhhhhh" to songs gave me more points than actually singing. I thought vocal-recognition technology had grown by leaps and bounds. Seaman came out almost ten years ago, and the vocal/word detection on that game was perfect! Ugh... I hope to have more time to test out the vocals. Just today I changed my tune about the strat, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'll figure out the delicate nature of the vocals enough to be pleased. ....The singing feature was the whole reason I wanted this game...

I still sing along to the songs I like, but when I am online and get stuck in some crap I just moan through it and it doesn't matter what mode it is easy or expert still uses the same tech just has a more sensitive tone to it.

Nope. The OP is right, you can just hum on pitch, except for the times I mentioned.

If you don't like that you can go AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH....THEN DON'T!! It's simple really. If you find it easier to beat by going aaahhhh...and you want more of a challenge, the sing the friggin' words!

Agreement. I've played four Karaoke Revolution games and this is how it's always been -- the technology just is not there to detect specific words.
And that's fine. You have to make a bargain with yourself... no cheating. Sing the song. Have fun. Don't just hum through it.
I am LOVING the mike on this game and I had an awesome 12 song run with some random dudes. They hadn't come across a single good vocalist all night and I got friendrequests from 'em all afterwards. FUN CITY.

Sounds awesome HeXcoda. I can't wait to get this game! (I'm in Canada). I hope the guitar / ps3 issues are ironed out at some point before I buy it...but I'm dying not being able to play it at all!!!

I wonder why phomeme detection only works on the pitch-less parts instead of all the time? Another technical hurdle?

Considering how wonky it seems to be from time to time (I only landed an 85% on Sabotage on Medium, and I'm pretty sure that I know how to pronounce the lyrics -- must be my Canadian accent), it probably would overcomplicate things to have it checking for phonemes alongside pitch at all times.

Sure you can Hum through the whole song but where is the fun in that?? Having fun is what the game is all about isnt it??
I personally try to sing all the words i know and im learning the songs pretty good now.
