Welp,
I'm going to call EA tech support tomorrow and if it doesn't turn out to be something fixable, I'm done with Rockband.
I swapped out my first RB2 SE kit at Best Buy today.
Got home with my 2nd set and the drums are worse than the first set's. These pads won't register AT ALL. At least with the first set, I could hit them really hard and they would sometimes register. I can do these manually with my hand, sticks, hard, soft, whatever... they have yet to register.
The bass pedal works fine.
Definitely disappointed.

Nah - I think I'm done. $190 plus the $23 for the replacement plan... that is like $210 bucks. There are too many good games coming out for me to warrant giving Rockband's hardware a 3rd or 4th try. I had problems with RB1 drums.
Its bad enough I don't own RB1 any more either... so all the money I've spent transferring songs, buying albums, etc... all wasted.

I wonder if the "don't return this product to the store" makes EA more, or less, accountable to their customers?

Just tell BB that they're legally required to take it back. Just because a little paper in there advises you not to.
I returned my RB 2 to BB with no problem at all.

Hoping for a miracle, I tried my 2nd drum kit again. They seemed to work, but then I quickly realized that the blue pad goes off every few seconds by itself.... even if I'm not touching anything else on any controllers or the drums.
This issue is comical. What is even more comical is the complete failure by the company to openly address this issue at all.
I'm sorry, but the failure rate on the drums seems to be pretty high.

I've also gone 0/2 on RB2 drum kits. I'm thinking about trying to go for a third, as Sam's Club gave me no problems returning the whole thingee for a refund. I refuse to deal with EA's RMA again, as it was a two week turnaround before we had to fax them a receipt and wait for them to process it. Now it'll be longer and there's still no guarantee you'll get a working drum kit before the 60 days is up.

Buy from Wal-Mart they take ANYTHING back with a receipt Great people them wally-worlder's
We killed 21 Drums sets during RB1 (bought 5 of them the rest rma sets)
If you wanna play the game you gotta live with the bugs or move on to something else. Real Bands dont stop playing because they bust a drum head or break a string on the guitar they fix it and keep playing....

My RB1 drum set is terrible. My red pad is so aweful I flip the sticks around to get a better hit and actually have it register, but rolling is impossible. I played on a ps3 rock band set and it was perfect as I was getting 98-100% on everything. I just ordered the new wireless RB2 drum set for my 360 after seeing such great reviews, but your post here has me skeptical. Has anyone else noticed the PS3 set is way better, and what the cause would be for it? Or has anyone had a great experience with the new RB2 kit? They definatly should have a way to test these to make sure they are perfect.

I lost my RB1 drum set right after the 60 warranty expired. The only problem with RB2 drums is that the battery pack on my wireless set gets shaken loose when I'm in the middle of a song or set. anyone else have that prob? any solutions?

Duct tape?
Haha - I didn't mod my first set at all with taping the pad closer or anything like that, but if the battery pack shaking loose is the only problem I encounter I will definatly alter the way it is attached.
Man I don't know if I should be excited or nervous to get the new set.

i haven't recieved my second drum set back from ea yet, and it's been approximately 3 weeks. i think that is pretty ridiculous. i'm sick of not playing drums.

Third time was a charm for me. The RB2 kit I got today seems to be working fine after 2 bad RB2 kits and 5 bad RB1 kits. I'm glad to finally verify once and for all that it wasn't my 360 wigging out on me all this time.

I just got the new PS3 Rock Band 2 drum set on Thurs. New pedal with metal reinforced face snapped at the hinge on Sat. I've had 2 of the original pedals snap in half in the center. The new metal piece can most likely prevent that, but there is a weak point by the hinge now. The hinge is not solid around the post as it was before. I'm pretty pissed and can only see the same thing happening again in the future. After an RMA once again, I'll look to maybe get a full metal aftermarket top piece replacement w/hinge. Dont play excessively hard, but I do have heavy muscular legs, and the double bass hits kill the crappy design everytime.
Pads themselves work great. Much quieter than RB1 set. Never had crossover between pads, but the red pad didn't register fast drum rolls in fills when I first used the set. The sensitivity adjusted after a few songs and now they work great. Green pad did have a rattle sound. I pulled the head off (carefully of course) and found a small screw in the frame was loose. Tightened it up and no rattle now. I really like the velocity sensitive heads but am wondering how long the sensitivity will work properly.
The padding on the drum heads is a little thicker now and makes the heads much quieter. I would assume this extra shock absorbing quality will help prevent heads cracking, but I haven't had this problem before.
It's a shame about the new pedal though. Once I get it worked out, Im goin to use a y-piece splitter cable to connect my old pedal and the new one to have double bass pedals. That should be fun to learn.
