I'm glad you all came out! Over the next couple days I'll be introducing you to a few Harmonix people who will be hanging around on this forum talking to you all and posting blogs on their profiles. We're shooting for at least one every day M-F. That said I would like to post some rules up here if I may
- Don't post anything that is racist/sexist/creedist...basically stuff that is just meant to offend people. I think we've all been on boards like that and it generally sucks. This could get you banned for a few days or banned permanently based on the seriousness of the offense.
- Don't post anything copywritten, or post links to hacks or stolen music/videos/books/anything. Keep in mind we are making a game here and we have partnerships with companies that will make our game awesome that could be adversely affected by that sort of thing. We want to maintain those relationships and make an awesome game for you. This will get you banned. Probably permanently.
-No spam. No one likes spam. No one is going to buy your 1/2 price pharmaceuticals, your opinions on penny stock garbage, or your inane spam poetry of random words. First of all it isn't rock, second of all it is the worst possible way to advertise to a person. This is an immediate permanent ban and we will forward your weird foreign IP to the appropriate parties. We may also have a party at your house when you aren't there and break your stuff.
-Have fun and start networking. This is imperative.
Thanks,
hmxsean

As a drummer whos been playing Guitar Hero for a year or two, I am of course psyched out of my mind about the prospect of a drum peripheral. I look forward to seeing this 'drum controller' revealed, with bated breath. That, and I'm really worried about what this beast is going to cost, but odds are, I, and millions of others, will pay for it. I'll be sure to keep up with all announcements here.

After hearing about Activision buying Red Octane I was very, very afraid of what would happen to my precious Guitar Hero. Will I be forced to play nothing but Jack Johnson on GH3?!?! I sure hope not!
I must admit I did have an inkling that there would be a "band" type of game to be released, but I had no idea it would be THIS soon! Am I excited? Yes. I'm I nervous? Even more so. Thankfully you seem to be heading in the right direction, and getting us the end-users involved long before the release. I'm looking forward to playing it!
This is very odd! I have been a huge fan of Guitar Hero since the first one
came out and I said- I hope there will be a version for the drums someday.
Then I was given a link here today and I was shocked to see that there
were new guitars, a drum kit and a microphone coming out!!!
This has certainly made my day, I am looking forward to seeing the new controllers
very much!

From Kotaku.com...This is an announcement if I've ever heard one!!!!
"Metal news site The PRP are reporting that Queens of the Stone Age, who have a new album that needs shilling come June, have been confirmed as appearing in a bunch of video games. They list Madden 08 and NASCA-yes, I'm moving along. Of more (any) interest are the two other games they're "confirmed" to appear in, Guitar Hero III and Rock Band.
This means they join the Allman Brothers, Joan Jett, Kansas, Nirvana and Wolfmother as confirmed artists for Rock Band, and unless I'm getting forgetful in my old age it makes them the first announced band for Guitar Hero III."

Well actually I didnt believe they would do it but it just feels stupid to not make use of nearly 50gb...
It could be a lot of more songs that would be available to download for free for 360 because of their "minidiscs" =P
Well i guess you get my point, it's more something I would hope for than believe ^^

No way man, i dont think any of the next-gen consoles sucks, never liked nintendo though..
Creating the same games over and over again... Mario Party 142?
360 is a nice console but will probably be halfed overrun WHEN developers can create good games for PS3, if the developers doesn't learn to make unbelievable games for PS3, well.... Then Ps3 is f****d ^^

The great things is that because of the internet and free market you can get whatever music you like.
Plus the point of my post was that there will most likely be Grunge in RB. I mean we have still yet to have seen Soundgarden in a Harmonix game and, according to my sources, Kurt Cobain is a popular guy.

Yeah GH2 had Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and the Toadies who although not recognized as being a big grunge band definitley took influence from grunge. I really think Soundgarden should be in there as well as Mudhoney. They were both big players in the Seattle Scene and would be awesome to play. Oh yeah I think that Kurt Cobain was kinda popular a while back.

The applications of this kind of project is HUGE!! I'm sure this game will be the best it can be and, really seriously please talk to some people you've got connections. I would love to see some Coheed & Cambria in either this game or another HMX game that will not be mentioned...*cough* GUITAR HERO III *cough* gotta quit that smokin. :D
After Reading further I have realized that HMX has nothing or little to do with GH III. I will now cease being a jackass. Thank You.

Soundgarden is my second most anticpated band for Rock band and GH3. Their stuff is just awesome, and it will be especially awesome in Rock Band because Chris Cornells vocalsw are unfrickinbelievable during Soundgarden, and Matt Cameron's drumming is amazing.

Grunge was dominant for a short period of time, even though it never saw the same amount of mainstream success, Thrash got the critical success to push sales really high. To this day, the big four of thrash remain bigger combined than the biggest four of Grunge.
Metallica: 100 million albums (take away the latter three and the number is around 85 million)
Nirvana: 60 million albums
Megadeth: 20 million albums
Slayer: 15 million albums
Anthrax: 10 million albums
(Slayer and Anthrax were out of public eye more than Megadeth due to crappy releases and stylistic changes, respectively)
Soundgarden sold about 15 million and I think they were the second highest... Maybe Pearl Jam is higher, but Soundgarden have been out of comission for ten years.
Speaking soley of grunge, it dominated the pop charts, but it certainly didn't sell higher than all other genres at that time.

Try comparing average Albums sold, Nirvana is at a major disadvantage against Metallica because Nirvana had only 3 albums, Metallica has had over 10 I believe.
Seattle_Sound
06-04-2007, 06:22 PM
Well, Nirvana has 3 studio albums, if thats what he's counting. Nirvana's Unplugged album was live and sold much much more than Bleach. Also, grunge probably could have been dominant longer if not for all the bands attitude of fame is bad. You have to respect that though because most bands hit the spotlight and want to shine for as long as possible. Bands like the Rolling Stones and The Police who do all this reunion **** to try and "bring the magic back" is stupid and just ruins the whole stretch of good times by making us watch these old dudes try and rock.

I can wait as long as it takes for Rock Band to be a solid and complete game before it's release. If Harmonix wishes to make us all wait until release to find out the bands and songs in the game I'm fine with that too. Be patient people, I'm sure they'll tell you all something in good time.
Oh, and why compare the numbers of record sales of this band and that band or this genre and that genre. Granted Tenacious D's song The Metal explains it quite well. Joking aside all that matters is that the music rocks. And so far every band mentioned in this thread does exactly that, ROCK!

I'm really hoping to see some heavily angry music. I don't mean Thrasher and Pantera, more like music you'd hear on whatever your station-equivalent of the "X" is where you live. I'd love to see some Breaking Benjamin or Stabbing Westward, among others. The down-side is, of course, how are you going to judge my vocals when I'm screaming so hard you can barely hear the surround sound system?
Speaking of which, I wonder what level of Surround Sound we'll get. 7.1 maybe? I'll buy a new Sound System to support it if it goes that high...

I feel the same way about this game being the result of many ideas and games that have led up to it. Remember when people were nay-saying that "no one would ever want to pay that much for a peripheral"? Well that thought has been put to rest. I remember sitting in the High School library with my group of friends dreaming about performing internationally. We had it all planned from the type of limo to get around, to magnetic boots and wireless instruments so we could blow the audience away as we stomped up the walls and hung from the rafters, instruments ablazin'. Well, High School came and went, but I still dream about going crazy. It looks like my chance is coming. It will be wild getting to jam with friends here, or new friends on line.
Here's to blowin' doors!
