My Rock Band guitar's overdrive doesn't activate when I hold it upright, however my GH3 guitar works just fine with the game activating the overdrive. If I hold the stratocaster up and wiggle it around sometimes it goes but I always mess up notes doing all that. Was just wondering if other people have the same problem and might have some remedies before I go file for a replacement.

Yea, I'm having the same problem with my guitar. I haven't been able to activate the overdrive at all. There's a rattling sound coming from my guitar like there's something loose in there. I think in one of the other posts, someone was mentioning that might be the sensor for the overdrive but it worries me.

My guitar on the ps3 does the same thing. Except if i just ignore the fact that I have overdrive sometimes it activates itself. Holding the guitar upright very rarely activates overdrive. You can however use the select button to activate it, but it is a little harder to palm than on the GH3 guitar. Wondering why EA decided to go with such a shoddy controller.

I'm having a similar issue - not with Overdrive not activating but rather it just happening randomly. To test, I held the guitar totally still on easy...seemed to activated Overdrive about 50% of the time when I had enough energy. When I try to activate it, it seems to only work about 50% of the time. What gives?

I am having the same exact issue with my 360 RockBand guitar. I have the Xplorer GH II controller and the new wireless GH III Les Paul and have no issues with activating overdrive with them. My guitar also has a slight rattle to it.... straight outta the box... but I just assumed it was normal.... even though I was still concerned about it.

Any fixes for this issue?

I'll bet EA is pretty backed up with RMA's about this.

I'm having the same issue with my guitar, star power not activating or activating randomly. I started the express RMA process, but it seems like its being awefully slow. (Due to the holiday.) I'm suppose to get a comformation E-Mail, but that hasn't happed yet. (I started the RMA at around 1pm on launch day.) As long as I get a replacement that works I'll be ok.

The problem I have with all of this is that out of 4 friends that I have who bought the game, only 1 actually has a guitar that works. Everyone else's makes this ratteling sond when you shake it and star power is serously messed up.

Is there anyone at EA/Harmonix who can help explain this a bit.

My GHII Xplorer works fine, but my brother uses the Strat and he cannot activate overdrive. Its pretty frustrating.

I'll try to take care of it post-Thanksgiving.

Tell him to kind of shake it when he tilts it up. Mine won't activate either, but if I give it a good shake once I have it upright, it seems to kick in. I'm hoping that the replacement I get (for the busted downstrum) will also have a better override gyro.

My friends were having the same problem with their strats.
They had to hold it up and shake it a little.

I don't know, but when I held it it went up just fine.
There's a certain way you have to do it that I can't describe.
Regardless, it shouldn't be very complicated to throw your guitar up and activate overdrive.

Same problem here. My friend tilted it and it activates about 10 seconds later when it's not even tilted.

I'm having the same issue with my guitar, star power not activating or activating randomly.

I don't have any problem activating overdrive, but I have played a few songs where the overdrive seems to launch itself as soon as the 2nd bar fills up.

It so far has only happened on a few songs, but several times within those few songs, which leads me to suspect a software problem. I haven't had time to test playing those same songs over again to see if it reoccurs, but I do remember that one of the songs was Dani California. Anyone else have the same problem with that song?

I had the same problem with overdrive not activating, but i found that if i held the guitar completely level, or even with the neck pointing down a bit, i was able to activate overdrive once i tilted it completely vertical for about a second.

It works, but it's definitely not ideal. I like to hold my guitar at about a 30 degree angle from level, and it seems like the tilt sensor is already engaged in this position. That would explain the overdrive "randomly" turning on during play.

Of course, i'm also having a problem where the strum develops a huge delay after the controller is plugged-in for a while, but that's a topic for another thread :-).

I've had difficulty activating overdrive since I started using the guitar. Does anyone know if this will be fixable via a patch of some sort? How widespread is this issue?

pretty unlikely this will be fixed with a patch- its obvious something is physically broke inside the guitar. just submit for a new guitar using the website, and wait like the rest of us. (or i saw that you can use the 'select' button to activate overpower).

I've found that with the strat, if I'm sitting down the overdrive will automatically activate more often than not once I fill the bar halfway. with the GH2 xplorer controller, I just tilt and hold it vertical for a moment and that'll activate it.
