I waited eagerly for the arrival of RB2 for PS3, even went to the extreme of purchasing the ion drum kit (still waiting on arrival). This is one game that my son and I can play together and really have a great time, I was completely sold on the RB franchise.
However, much to my dismay, the microphone on RB2 only works half the time. The system always recognizes that a mic is plugged in, but the mic doesn't work at all. I have tried rebooting the PS3 while it was plugged in, tried plugging in the mic after it was rebooted, and after the game had started up.
When the mic does work the game is seriously fun and one of the best games to come out for any console.
If anyone has experienced this problem and knows of a solution, any information would be greatly appreciated. If this is a new issue I sincerely hope that the RB franchise looks into resolving it. I would hate to think I have spent over $1000.00 between RB1, RB2, songs, and additional equipment to have a game that only works half the time.
If you're out there listening, please help! Finally a game that the whole family can enjoy, and the fun has been taken away.

Hi - I am having a similar issue and want a fix. Our microphone for RB2 on the PS3 just stops working/being recognized. This happens often but not due to any particular logical reasons. Any help here would be appreciated.

Glad to know I'm not the only one.
I actually had to order a replacement through the warranty center. Had the same issue except it stopped working all together.
Anyway, to troubleshoot plug the mic into a pc.
1) see if the pc recognizes it. By the sounds of it, I expect it will
2) use the sound recorder application and see if any sound comes through. Mine didn't...rma processed.
good luck. process is pretty painless and you should get your new mic within a week or so.

Thanks for the info, the one thing I did find with RB is they are very quick to replace faulty equipment. on RB1 my guitar broke within 2 weeks and they replaced it within a week. Awesome customer service, hoping I don't have to go through the replacement process again (only because I'm anxious to play).
In the meantime I will try your suggestions. :)

Please see my post about finding what's causing the issue, it may be the same on your end.

Mine does the same thing. If I wiggle the USB into the ps3 for a while ( while blowing in the mic to see when it start to work ), I can use it again.
Anyone find an answer to this?

That's not it. I don't have any other mic. And like I said, when it stops working, I can make it work again by wiggling the mic around in the USB port over and over untill I finally get it just right.
