View Full Version : Moving saved games with Memory Card (Xbox 360)

I am getting a new Xbox 360 soon, and wish to transfer my user account and game saves off of a friend's 360 that I've been using for a long while.
I noticed on Wiki, that it lists the original Rock Band as not letting you transfer over saved games onto a memory card, for some reason, but it does let you transfer downloadable content?
Any reason why this is? It seems kind of strange that the user-specific purchases (song downloads) can be transfered, but something simple like the saved games can't be.
Anyway, it doesn't list Rock Band 2, however. Is it the same for the second game as well? I really don't need to transfer my downloadable content, honestly. With my purchased licenses (presumedly of which would still be intact, as it's related to my XBL account), I could just redownload it all. My saved games, achievements, scores, character creations, logos and bands are far more important to me.
If anyone has any info regarding this, it would be greatly appreciated. It does really suck that (if Wiki is correct) I may have to replay all of my songs over again on RB1, not to mention losing all my characters, custom guitars and money, but hopefully at the very least it is not the same for RB2.

Wiki is incorrect (duh, it often is). You most definitely can move save game files with an Xbox Memory Unit.
What you cannot do is COPY a RB Save Game file. You certainly can MOVE it, however.
This applies to both RB1 and RB2.

You can only use YOUR own gamesave
Some games just don't let you transfer your saved games period...
But don't expect to use someone else's save on your profile (i don't know if that's what you intend on doing)....
Saved games are profile specific
But if you are using saved games from your own profile then that's just fine

Well that's something else which is useful when making threads like this, to verify such information, yes?
Anyways, thanks for the help, for those who did. I wonder why bother going through the hassle of using the Microsoft transfer kit then. I'd much rather just use a memory card. Plus, this way I don't have to delete everyone else's profiles when just trying to move my own (the transfer kit only has an option to move EVERYTHING, and then deletes everything off the old hard drive).
Just out of curiosity, while on the topic of transfering, I'd want to use my DLC licenses on my new 360, so obviously migration would be something I'd want to do. Should I do it before or after I transfer my saved game files? Or does it even make a difference?

this problem comes when anyone can post anything thats correct or incorrect, but i'm not really planning to go into a discussion on that so ill answer your new question
you need to do the license transfer before transferring your dlcs and such. otherwise you will need to delete them and redownload them again
edit: transferring the licenses does not delete them from your old console. it only make you sign on to xbox live to play them
