After reading the thread about The Dark Knight I though I would make this thread.
I have never seen either of the new Batman movies.

Titanic.
Not my kind of movie.
Dark Knight?
Waiting for it to be on cable, but I will see it.

Remember E.T.? I managed to avoid that one from 1982 to 2002, when it finally came out on DVD. I think I was the only person in the world who never saw it.

How do you know the new one isn't crappy either if you haven't seen it yet?

Never could finish any of the Godfather movies without falling asleep. Never saw Dark Knight or Iron Man (Don't care to see Iron Man really. Not a very cool superhero to make into a movie if you ask me.)
Indiana : Crystal Skulls was the last movie I saw in theaters and it was the worst movie that I've ever seen in my life.

Unless you rectify this as soon as possible, this is going to severely strain our bond as twins.
Personally, I've never seen any of the Speed movies. I've also tried to watch 2001:A Space Odyssey twice, and fell asleep both times.

Phew! Glad it's not just me!
The annoying thing is that when Office Space and Lebowski came out, everyone told me they sucked and I should save my money. And now everybody else yells at me because I listened. :D

I've seen the Godfather part 1, but none of the sequels. I also don't find to be the big lebowski all that great. I know I've seen it, but it just didn't stick with me. Now, Anchorman... THAT is a great movie that stuck with me.

Classic - Casablanca...it's been on my DVR for over a year, but I just can't get around to watching it.

You can't kick me out of the family! Every time you try I'll pull you back in! Plus, I'll tell Mom! :D
I have been meaning to grab that new Blu-ray Godfather set. If I promise to watch that, then you have to watch 2001 - even if you have to use those nifty eye clamps from A Clockwork Orange to keep your orbs open!
WOW...that is shocking.
I know - every time I say it people get that shrill high pitched tone and go "YOOOOU'RE A MOOOVIE CRITIC, AND YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE GODDDDFAAAATHERRR???"
Definitely check out Casablanca though - it's way more fun than it sounds and it's fun to look for all of the things that influenced Star Wars (like the Cantina scene) and the Indiana Jones series (like the animated lines on the map during flying montages).
And for the fellow who hasn't seen Superbad, check it out. I think I saw that four times in the theater last year. Awesome stuff!

I was actually referring to The Big Lebowski, not The Godfather. Lebowki is easily one of my top three comedies of all time, so you need to see it. Honest. I'll try to give 2001 another look, but I can't promise not to fall asleep again...

One movie is even less of an investment of time and money, so I think I can pull off that feat. I run across Lebowski on movie channels all the time, but I never watch it because I have those grand plans of someday buying it and watching it uncut. Perhaps I'll get that nifty new edition with the bowling ball case!
2001 isn't really one of my all-time faves, and I understand that it may induce narcolepsy. It does however look great on a big screen. It helps to watch it when you're feeling meditative yet also alert, otherwise it's snooze city!

I have noticed that I definitely have to be in the right mindset to enjoy Kubrick. What's your opinion on Eyes Wide Shut? The other day, while turning on my TV to play some Rock Band, I stumbled upon and watched a scene featuring a 'court' of some sorts with people wearing all sorts of Venetian masks, and thought the scene was absolutely stunning visually. Is the rest of the movie worth watching, or is this the one redeeming scene in the movie?

I also have a bit of a love/hate relationship with ol' Stanley. Eyes Wide Shut is such a mixed bag for me that I have a hard time recommending it. When it's firing on all cylinders, it really sucks you in. The downside is that I don't find the story pays off, and the 'waking dream' aspect of it doesn't pan out enough either. Plus there's that outrageously repetitive piano sting on the soundtrack that evolves into an aural form of Chinese water torture.
I have been meaning to seek out the uncut version, since when I saw it in theaters here in the States it had animated shadow people inserted randomly to block certain sexual situations. Though one element I doubt will pay off as well on video is the insane amount of film grain - it really added to the style and made everything seem just a little 'off'.
Blacks (like the ones found in Tom Cruise's winter coat) almost turn blue, and you can literally watch the colors and details mutate before your eyes. Some may find it annoying, but it really seemed like a stylistic choice and it certainly made the film feel more interesting on a visual level.
Back on the negative tip, I suppose my biggest disappointment with the film was that it simply came across as Kubrick trying like hell to copy the style of Krzysztof Kieslowski. I'd much rather recommend that man's truly great films (like The Three Colors trilogy, The Double Life Of Veronique or The Dekalog series).
Your results may vary, but I found that I didn't really care about the selfish characters in Eyes Wide Shut and that it ultimately proved to be a whole lotta nuthin' with a wildly lame finale. And I certainly could never buy the concept that Tom Cruise's character supposedly wouldn't be able to process knowledge of the identities of the super-important participants at the sexual bacchanale. Especially when our own President at the time was known to be receiving oral favors from interns and the world didn't burn to ashes when word got out.
Still, even flawed Kubrick is worth at least one look.

I've never seen Superbad. I heard it was hilarious.
As with Brobot, I also just watched Superbad for the first time this week (I generally hate those type of comedies) and my review would be this: Take American Graffiti, add in a bunch of random cuss words, a period-dance, and that's pretty much Superbad.

So you're saying if you're in a depressed mood, you can't watch Clockwork Orange and get cheered up? Hmm, that's interesting. But I first saw Eyes Wide Shut as the unedited version and it wasn't terrible the first time I saw it. One of those that after you watched, you replayed in your head a bunch (like all Kubrick's), but watching it a second and third time it got worse each time. Kubrick is the anti-Tarantino. Kubrick you watch once to get the full enjoyment out of it. Tarantino the more you watch, the better it gets. Also, the scene with the "courts" you caught, you should have tuned in about 10 minutes earlier!

Has anyone here NOT seen Back to the Future? I used to work with someone who hadn't seen it and to this day that is one of the most amazing facts about someone I have ever heard. Someone who is 24 years old, has a tv and cable, and had not seen Back to the Future...amazing. I still can't fathom it.

No, that's not it. It's more along the lines of getting 'okay, I'm going to watch a Kubrick movie' into my head. He has a very distinct style of filmmaking, often very slow and ponderous and detached, and I really need to get myself into the right mindset to enjoy his movies. I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of either Kubrick or Tarantino, though.

'Detached' is definitely a key word here. I've always been fascinated by a running theme in 2001 in which humans become more detached and distant as they 'evolve'.
In the opening segment, early man is seen as fearful cuddlers. They finally evolve into the space-age absentee dad, whose career makes it impossible for him to be at his daughter's birthday party. He still gives her a video call at least. Cut to the final segment where Poole gets a time-delayed message from his Earthbound parents, and he's an emotionally blank figure completely unmoved by human contact and literally worlds away.
I've often wondered if Kubrick looked at detachment as an essential step of human evolution, and that the colder you get the closer you are to mutating into a ginormous spacebaby. :D

That had never occurred to me about 2001. I've always loved that film, though. I can't believe I never caught on to that theme.
As a child, I made it a point to see every important film in history. The only really important or "great" film I have yet to see is "Casablanca". I can't think of any others. Oh, I haven't seen "Platoon" either. Not quite as significant, but still...

I didn't notice it either until like my umpteenth viewing - when it hit me that he was making a point of showing increasingly distant relationships between parents and their children in each major segment of the film.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen Platoon all the way through either. I trip across it on cable alot, but it's always halfway through or something.
