View Full Version : How to fix broken drum?

My green drum completely snapped off the base. It was dangling by the little wire running to the main unit/plug.

The black plastic has slowly weakened over time, and then eventually failed on me. This of course happened in October, after the warranty was changed to 60 days, so I'm now a very unhappy customer... too bad, since I was a huge fan and told everyone about how great this game is... I can't really say that anymore (especially with broken drums).

I've tried a couple times to super glue and gorilla-glue the set back together, but it only holds for a few songs... the repeated bashing on the drums is simply too much for the glue.

My latest attempt to fix this issue is to put two L-brackets on the front and back side where the green drum snapped off, and used 1 1/2 inch screws to hold it in place, along with gorilla glue on the brackets themselves. I haven't tested it yet, not sure how long it will hold up.

So-- I can't be alone... who else has snapped a drum off the stand (I imagine red or green are suspect to this) and what is the best solution to repair this yourself if you're out of warranty?

And hell no I'm not going to BUY Rock Band 2 drumset, if the first one broke, and won't be held under warranty, I certainly won't make that mistake twice.

Has anyone tried removing all 4 drum pads/sensors & controls from the cheap plastic frame, and embedded it in a piece of plywood or something else more sturdy?

dude what the hell were you doing with it?
You must've been smacking the hell outa those drums for a pad to break off.
I haven't heard of a pad completely coming off..lol

but sorry..all I can suggest is that you're gonna have to buy a new one since your warranty is done..

My husband is a real life drummer. Therefore, the red pad broke off of his. I extended the wires, took the bottom head and snares off of one of his snare drums, put it upside down on the snare stand, padded it with some eggshell and then set the red pad in it. He actually likes this much better because the snare is back between his knees where it is on his normal kit. Needless to say I ordered him the Drum Rocker Premium Drum Set because there is no chance of anything short of a real kit holding up to him. I just hope the green pad holds on until the electronic kit gets here in december.

There goes the "you're just using bad technique and that's why you broke it" argument...

I had the exact thing happen to my drum. The green one broke off. You can see where the seam is poorly designed. I am too out of warranty. The drum is not very solid.

After 6 months of light/moderate use (and no I don't BASH the pads, I'm actually pretty easy on them) the green pad's bracket just snapped off leaving the pad hanging from the wire.

This is definitely a design flaw in the RB1 drum kit: the red and green pads are simply not supported well enough to hold up to regular use - the plastic bracket weakens over time and eventually fails.

I'm trying to come up with some kind of sturdy platform to mount all 4 pads to (metal or plywood I guess) and have cutouts for the two vertical post connectors. If successful I'll post pictures here :-)

Check this link at scorehero out, it may help if you also reconnect the strut with a plate that'll screw in to both the head side and the stand side.

Not sure what else can be done. I don't think there's any glue that'll hold up to that kind of punishment.

I added braces to mine after I had cracks on both the front and rear of the green and red pads, neither were broken completely off but they were close to it. My braces support the pad with no extra stress on the weaking area between the pads. Was only about $18 in parts from the hardware store.

That looks like it took some hard work, at least hard for those of us who're less constructionally inclined.

I'm sure having this character staring over your shoulder couldn't have made it any easier:

Well, I got the braces to the point they are in the picture before he was born. But I still plan to trim the hinge pins and put some epoxy on them to hold them in place and paint them black. Not that hard to make, hardest was laying the wire in the slots of the cross anchor lug things and soldering them in. Wire ain't happy about the hole that got melted into the couch from the one that flew off the work area while hot. They are really solid feeling, no flop at all and I can hit them much harder now with no problems. The longest part was cutting and filing the 4 way junctions so that they can work like a hinge. Best part is they are easy to remove and put on another drum.
