Well, I just got back from a show by a local band named Made In Iron, and they're an Iron Maiden cover band. Barely anyone showed up, but I was front and center, so I barely noticed. It was friggin' amazing. My ears are ringing like hell, but the headbanging didn't give me a headache and I'm still on a high. I can die happy now...

Anyway, what cover bands have you guys seen that just blow you away?

I saw the Pink Floyd Experience and they were awesome. The light show was really great and the guitarist nailed gilmour's tone. I would definitely see them again.

I'm probably going to see the Australian Pink Floyd in December too.

Oh this is an easy one.

the Atomic Punks, Van Halen tribute band. Easily one of the best tribute bands and definitely the best VH tribute there is. Roth gave the band props after checking them out for himself saying that if you can't see Van Halen go see these guys, they are that good. Roth later grabbed their "Eddie" for one of his solo tours and Mike Anthony has played with them a few times as well.

Listen to any of these and close your eyes, it's truly incredible how good they are. Actually Ralph does have uncanny resemblence to Diamond Dave so even watching is pretty scary at times.

The drummer also does a Rush tribute called Moving Pictures when he's not doing The Atomic Punks gig.

Guitarist Russ Parish and singer Ralph Saenz are involved with Metal Skool when they are aren't busy with The Atomic Punks. Metal Skool is a tribute/parody of the 80's LA Metal scene. They often have celebrities and other artists appear with them onstage as many go to see their shows. They are both fun and highly entertaining.

They recently got signed to a record deal and have since changed their name to Steel Panther

Bands that only do covers from one other band are called tribute bands.

B-Street (Bruce Springsteen tribute band) is great if you like Bruce.

A cover band would be something like Me First & The Gimmie Gimmies.

it is...

unfortunately, this town's mostly only good for cover bands for some bizarre reason.

Philly is the same way, people love their cover bands here for whatever reason. Bars will typically either have one night of original stuff or none at all. Though my favorite cover band likes to throw in a song or two of their own anyway, not that promoters care, these guys bring big crowds and fans like their original stuff.

(they sund like crap on a recording, but their live sohw is very kinetic.)

Great. I HIGHLY recommend them, played a great show and sounded just like the Floyd.

it's happening to most of the quality posters, particularly a lot of us here on this forum and the HMX staff.

the ratings-system is totally useless when the majority of the voters are brain-dead or trying to deal out some kind of internet-revenge.

Now that I think about it, I do notice a lot of Henry's album threads get one stars from the beginning, despite how organized, detailed, and informative they are.

One thing that annoys me is that it's always 5 or 1 star. No one will give a thread a 2 star for being bad, but not god-awful. No one will give an average thread 3 stars. And so on.

i rarely rate threads unless i see someone's come along to slap a one-star on it for no reason.

i also pay no attention to stars when it comes to clicking on a thread to read it. i can usually tell if it's something that's not pertinent to my interests.

Opinions are like @ssh*les - everyones got one and they all stink!
