View Full Version : Delay between physically strking the drum pad and the resulting sound through speaker

Is there supposed to be a delay between drum strikes and the resulting sound that comes through speakers? It can be difficult to keep a beat when the drum sounds I'm hearing are a fraction of a second behind.
I'm mostly talking about those fill sections where you can freestyle. You can literally play a series of sixteenth notes and the sound playing out of my speakers is a at least a stroke behind what I'm actually playing on the pads.

did you try calibrating the tv? undr the main menu go to options and and select calibrate.. then you choose what kind of tv you have.. lcd, plasma etc... on one of the loading screens it tells you this if you are having delay.

lag is a known problem, if you haven't already, make sure Dolby is unchecked to get rid of some (but not all) of the delay.

Yeah, I was using Dolby Digital and it sounded great, but now I will always play on analog stereo. *sigh*

The issue with sound lag for both drum solos and singing is now well-documented. Check out the other threads about this and the mic latency issue (it's the same issue, really). Supposedly, HMX is looking into this now, as it is a huge problem.

hello. now that u mention it, Dystocia, i feel a bit relieved. i really would like to keep playing this game with Dolby Digital, but it's driving me insane. i have calibrated about 15 times, and numbers are always the same (-/+2), audio and video, but it's very VERY frustrating being a huge beatles fan, not being able to master ringo's fills and flourishes. my audio/video setup is somewhat complex:
PS3 outputs video thru HDMI to a Flatscreen TV, PS3 outputs digital audio via SPDIF optical cable to my home theater. i know i am looking for trouble with this setup cause the audio delay is evident even with dvds or videos, but hell! i did not expect it to hinder my gaming experience.
i blame the calibration as well. using the "freesyle" option for the drums is just ridiculous: you hear the drum sound precisely when your NEXT hit is ocurring, and i have even felt the repetitions slowing down.
but i also noticed that using a free software i found on the web to connect the Rockband drumset to my pc, the audio lag is inherent to the drum set. it is just terrible.
i understand perfectly that this is a "TOY", but when the gaming experience depends on PRECISION, well... it makes little sense. and all this also applies to the microphone. it's so confusing to be singing and hearing yourself almost 250ms later on the home theater speakers.
honestly, i don't know what to think about this. my last attempt will be to try RCA analog audio connections and see how it behaves, but it has become QUITE frustrating.
could the people how experience little or no audio lag, please comment on their audio/video setups please? i would really like to know about your experiences.
thank you in advance.

hello. now that u mention it, Dystocia
Please look at the date of posts before replying to them. Dystocia didn't just mention that now. Dystocia mentioned that nearly 2 YEARS ago, November 2007.
