At first, I really didn't understand the frustration people had with the kick pedal. The problem is that you kneed more than rhythm.

Go through this website (http://www.studydrums.com/dapp01.html) using JUST your hands and feet first to get your body used to it. If you do this, I can guarantee that you won't have a problem with the drums.

Seriously, with this beat, you can play 40% of songs on the radio.

I taught my 11 year old sister this beat using this technique and now she plays drums on medium just from sight reading.

Once you actually get these beats down, you should be getting 90% in medium no problem at all. Just keep the rhythm.

I hope this helped.

Yeah, this is gonna become so boring after a while. Every little bit that mixes it up a little will make the drumming worth it. An extra bass here, double snare there. It'll become about nailing them perfectly.

I just need to teach myself how to keep my foot seperate from my hands.

Read the first lesson and listen to the audio. Practice with just tapping your hands and feet and count to 4 each time. Do this until you can do it without counting. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes, tops.

The whole getting your foot and arms to move independently is the hardest part for most people. The extras drum stuff is a lot more fun but you're not going to get to it or do it properly if you can't get through the standard beat first.

I made this post because people were complaining about the kick pedal being too difficult. IF you get 2 standard beats down, you'll be amazed at how much easier the drums are. It also might help if when you're driving around or listening to any type of music to spot these beats and try to play along. Once you are able to do that, you'll know you've got it.

Yea, I certainly need to practice those types of beats. I struggled through the first tier on hard, mainly because there were fewer of those beats. Second tier destroyed because nearly every song, for the whole song, has that type of foot-hand independence.

Playing solo mode is the best way to practice. I love the fact that the songs are listed by drum difficulty. You'll get better as you go along.

*I also corrected the link in the first post*

Treating my gas pedal as a bass drum pedal in an attempt to improve my drum chops is clearly the safest idea ever! ;)

....or you could just bite the bullet and suck for a while.

My reccomendation for anyone who has any rhythm at all is to jump in on hard difficulty on solo mode.

Play weezer, garbage, and radiohead over and over and over until you have some semblance of what you are doing (even if you beat them, play them again and again).

You will know that you are almost ready to move on to the second tier of solo drum songs on 'hard' when you can beat weezer on 'expert'.

I plan to get good enough at drumming the songs that I won't need to read the notes... that way I will be able to step up to a real drum kit and possibly play the beats for real.
