Score Duel Freeze

Whenever I try to get a score duel going, i pick my character, pick guitar, wait for an opponent, pick a song, pick gutiar, then expert. Finally, it freezes on the easy-expert flag-like menu...the white doves freeze too. Why is this happening? i thought i'd have to wait for my opponent first...but i couldn't access my ps3's XmB when it was frozen, so i think its the game.
