I have every song from week 1 downloaded onto my hard drive as we speak. I went over to a friends house specifically to download this stuff. But now the content won't download from my hard drive at home? Do I HAVE to be on Live just to play this awesome new stuff?

you made the big mistake of using your friends console to download it.

The content is attached to the serial of HIS xbox, even though its your hard drive.

So yes, you will need to be signed online.

If you had brought your XBOX over you would have been fine, but since you used his, you're screwed.

This goes for ALL downloadable content on the live marketplace, not just rock band.

Blame microsoft, not EA/Rockband.

Delete it from your hard drive.

Go back to your buddies house and be signed into your profile when you download the stuff (recover your gamertag if need be). If you bought it under his name you'll have to rebuy the stuff.

Let me get this straight, so I don't make a mistake...if I take my HD over to my cousins house and hook it up, log in under MY xboxlive account and download the content....it should be OK to play on my xbox at home right?

no.... this is incorrect.

You NEED to use your xbox if you want to play offline. The way it is now, if he signs into his account he can play, because its tied to his HARD DRIVE / USERNAME but NOT his actual xbox.

It's stupid, I know, but just signing under your name on his xbox will NOT solve the situation.

So is this all speculation, or do we know for sure that this is how it works? Cause i did the same thing. I dont have an Internet connection at home (i know, what am i a caveman?), so i took my hard drive over to my friends house and went crazy on the donloadable content only to get home and be smacked in the face a by a big "F you, paying customer". I really hope theres a way to fix all this.

This is how M$ works. They can go console specific (if you mod your xbox, they can ban the console from xbox live, not just the user name) So even though you paid, if you didn't use your console, you have to be signed into live. Just bring your console.

When you purchase DLC, it links to two things: 1) the serial number of the console you download it on and 2) the gamertag you use to download it.

If you are NOT connected to XBL, and you are NOT on the console you bought it on, YOU'RE SCREWED.

However, if you are on the console you bought it on and NOT on XBL, you're fine.

You have to be on the console it was bought on or ON XBL with the gamertag you bought it with.

To answer my own question, and to prove everyone else right, heres a little peice of information from the Xbox Live FAQ:

"Q: Can I watch my premium content from Xbox LIVE Marketplace on my friend's console?

A: No. Paid content from Xbox LIVE Marketplace is usable only on the Xbox 360 console to which it was downloaded."

sad sad news. but maybe there is a way to get it back on my xbox, if i get iut to a connection or something. Because if your xbox breaks and you get a new one, i highly doubt you have to re-buy everything you have bought. I guess we will see. I emailed Xbox and will probably call their customer support tomorrow to see if i can fix this somehow.

Actually, if you buy a new XBOX, guess what? Unless you are logged into XBOX, you do have to rebuy everything. Welcome to the world of Digital Rights Management. :(
