Some people (like me) can't afford to get a ps3 or xbox 360. It could work out like this...
Guitar : controller port one
Bass : controller port two
Drums : USB port one
Mic : USB port two

I think your gonna have to accept the inevitable man. Your gonna need a next gen console.
I'm in the same boat as you, I don't have one yet and I can barely afford enough to live each week. I've been doing budgeting and I know that by the time Rock Band will most likely come out (just less that 5 months) I should be able to get a ps3+the game+at least 1 guitar, drums and the mic.
Just gotta make sacrifices. Whats eating 3 meals a day got over Rock Band? Nothing! That's what! I also quit smoking, which definitely helps save up extra cash:D

congrats on quiting smoking:)
Just saving a few quid each week will help, I promise you that much. I plan on putting some money asides each week in the hope I've got enough. Hopefully everything will be all good.

I'm lucky me and my bro go half and half on most everything. So a 360 only cost me 200.

But if this isn't true already, I bet by November or December when Rock Band comes out, the majority of gamers will own either a 360 or PS3 though and people who don't own a next-gen system will be the minority.

Thats true and if you own a PS2 and PS3 or regular XBOX and 360 which one will you be buying new games for? Your next gen system.

I feel your pain. My only chance of Wi-Fi and RB needs it to come out on Wii.

Congrats on quitting smoking. RB makes smokers quit.

It really is, as SAnick said, the acceptance of the inevitable.
Though if they do put it on the PS2 I am calling for a port to the Atari 2600.

the ps2 has 2 controller ports and 2 USB ports, so technically it is possible... It's still not gonna happen though

most likely, the ps2 and xbox can't handle what's required for the game to work.
maybe if they dropped the background and just ran the fretboards perhaps.
then there definately won't be any online features.
sell your ps2, mow some lawns, deliver newspapers, etc.
if you want it bad enough you'll find a way. but if you give in (i can't afford it), you'll never find a way.
ask yourself, how can you afford it.
people buy broken ps2's and xbox's off of ebay, fix them, then resell them... do that....
or go door to door "i want to buy some software that helps people enjoy playing music. would you like to donate any amount for this ? my goal is to reach $1,000 and so far I have such and such amount".

O.K, I don't know anything about video games at all, so does the 360 play original xbox's games?

No, it really won't. By this upcoming holiday, most people will have scrapped their old consoles, or just stash them away. For the cost to develop it for two more consoles (even one of the aforementioned two), I doubt that as much profit would be made as it currently will be.
EDIT: And they don't even make Xbox games anymore... and PS2 games should be out the window in not too long.

You didn't answer the question. If xbox 360 can play xbox games then I will trade in my xbox and get a 360.

the answer is kinda.
Select titles from the Xbox are backwards compatible on the 360, and they update that list pretty frequently.
i'm pretty sure somewhere online they have a working list of Back-Comp titles.

Won't come out on XBOX or PS2: hardware limitations and cost of dev. are unlikely to see a return on investment.
In fact, I'm pretty stoked there are another two guitar hero games coming out on PS2. Considering I bought a ps2 JUST for Guitar Hero I was worried there would only be Guitar Hero 1 and 2 and then it would be on to the next-gen.

Ridiculous statement. GH1 and GH2 were for PS2 which is were the fan base comes from, I think it was something like 1.7 Million units sold. 1.7 million x $60 is like £102 million.
As for peripheral connection just look at Buzz, you could have one block that connects to the USB port and all peripherals plug in to that. Or you could buy the 4 player adapter.
I guess its down to processng power as to whether the PS2 could cope. The online of PS2 was a joke so download material and online play would probably be a bit of a no go also.

It's not ridiculous, it's true. It's not going to happen, and there was no doubt in my mind that it won't happen. First of all, it's a new generation, the PS2 is old hat. The gaming industry knows that it's time to move on, we aren't still developing for the XBOX, are we? It's only a matter of time before the PS2 is dropped. Secondly, it wasn't announced, so it's impossible, because, even if they announced it now, by the time it was developed, PS2 games would have stopped being made. It's ridiculous to think it has any chance coming out on PS2, in my opinion.

The original Xbox didn't have as much of a following as the PS2 did. In Australia PS2 has over 2 million units sold, more than any other console. Not only that but in the last 3 months the PS2 has sold about as much as the Xbox 360 and Wii combined*
And as it's been said on this thread before, you can easily have 4 peripherals plugged into the 1 PS2, so why aren't we going to see a release on it?
My opinion, Harmonix wanted to achieving something with this game, and that can ONLY be done with massive online support. If released on PS2 it would be a great game. An awesome solo career, good multiplayer but the online connectivity just wouldn't be there, that's not what Harmonix wanted to do.
... That's what I think anyway.

I was not questioning whether it was going to happen or not, I was questioning the ridiculous statement that there is 'no wad' in making it for PS2.
For a start, if that was true would GH Encore release be cancelled?
PS2 still has massive sales, look at Buzz, All the dance games, Singstar, iToy and GH 1/11. These games are selling masively well and anyone that makes a sweeping statement saying "wont make money" has not thought about the PS2s continuing potential.
Of course PS3 will take over, but not until the console drops in price so that it competes on price, features and titles.

i agree with you...i think they should make it for ps2 too..i mean, if it came out on ps2, i would want the game to come with a multi tap, that would solve the whole 4 controller-2 slot problem...

Does the GH PS2 guitars work on a PS3? And do the PS2 versions of GH and GH2 both work on a PS3?

This game thrives on looking good and having a large online community. two things the ps2 will lack for this game. also DLC is pointless. There comes a time when companies move on from the last gen systems........ downsizing the game for ps2 just doesnt make sense in this case

Or if you are low on money how about getting a 360?

ok for sure they wont make it for a dead system xbox= corpse by microsoft themselves wish the would sstill make games for it but what u gonna do . as for the ps2 version it could work without multitap use now lets remember that the mis is usb ne way so no needo porto and un could just hook the drums thru the usb ywo the way it beats couldnt be that far from a keyboard so there u got 2 guitars in the controller ports and mic and drums in usb ports dumbdown graphics and they could do it. not saying they are it just more hardware crap to fiddle with to delay launch but really i got my ps3 and wii (btw sora did u see the guitat where the cwiimote slides in to it and its just like GH guitar for gh3 i think might be for this butthought ud like to know) im gonna get a 360 around the time fable 2 comes out mass effect might sway me faster also never cared for halos makes me have seizures but this game i cant wait im gettin the whole set which i guess is only 1 guitar:( but ill save enought for one more cant wait to have parties
