Yet, another compatibility question since I can't seem to find the answer. I have found that GH3 and RB guitars don't play nice with the opposite games on PS3, and I have read about how Harmonix touts that they stuck with the previous standards for GH. So does this mean I can go out and buy earlier versions of GH for my PS3 and use the RB guitar?
If the answer is yes, I can use the RB guitar for GH1, GH2, 80's, etc. then I guess that would prove the point that Harmonix is definitely the good guy here when you consider that GH3 guitars will not work with earlier versions of GH on PS3. However, it would be nice if everyone would come out with patches so PS3 users can actually get that bass rockin' for both games.
One note to the PS3 bashers... I really don't want to hear it. The 360 is a fine machine as well; however, I am a fan of the Blue-ray and want to support it over HD DVD since it has a larger disk capacity... BR = 25gb, 50gb vs. HD DVD = 15gb, 30gb. I don't want to start a debate over this either, I'm just giving my reasoning behind my PS3 purchase and do not plan to invest in a 360 as well.

I sure would like to know if anyone knows if RB guitars on PS3 are compatible with the earlier PS2 versions of Guitar Hero... 1, 2, and 80's since GH3 guitars are not compatible. Doesn't anyone know the answer?
I would actually like to get the earlier versions if this is possible.

There is an adapter for PS2 controllers to USB. You can use the GH2 SG controller from PS2 on the PS3 with those. They're $15 a Gamestop.
They really ratchet up the lag (a data translation issue I'm sure). I didnt think it was worth it, so I returned them.
I do not know if it makes them compatible with Rock Band. I got rid of them the day after I bought them in Oct.

As far as I know from other threads I've read about it, they're not compatible with Rock Band. I think it's because they're missing that all-important playstation button that the PS2 didn't have.
It's a pity too, I have a couple of old PS2 guitars lying around, and I'd go get a converter ASAP if I thought there was even a chance they'd work with Rock Band.

Actually, I was asking the reverse of that answer, but I did find out the answer since I finally got the chance to try out one of my friends GH2 games. I wanted to know if the PS3 RB guitar would work with GH1, 2, or 80's. When I started up the GH2 game on my PS3 my GH3 and RB wireless guitar controllers dropped connection and would not reconnect with the PS3 until I quit GH2 (which had to be done by my PS3 OEM controller).
I don't have all the low down on controller compatibility between PS3 and PS2, but I would have to say that the guitars for GH2 must run in an analog mode or something a typical third party PS3 controller isn't compatible with and I suppose the PS3 controllers have the ability to run in this mode which allows use of most PS2/1 games.

For PS3, the "Guitar Hero 3" Les Paul controller works only with "Guitar Hero 3." The "Rock Band" Fender Stratocaster controllers works only with "Rock Band." You cannot use the GH3 controller with "Rock Band," nor can you use the "Rock Band" controller for GH3, GH2, GH1, or GH 80s.
In short, there is currently no good way to play the old Guitar Hero games on a PS3.

They are looking into making the Les Paul work with Rock Band. I have a feeling we'll hear more on that on Monday.
