Open up the hatch on the bottom of the drums that holds the batteries in. Push on all of the batteries (there should be at least one loose) then pack about 2-3 cottonballs in that spot. Mine hasnt lost connection AT ALL since then. any other resolutions that you would like to share in case people are (cotton)ball less or if you are curious of different or maybe safer methods?

We found that throwing out the cheap batteries that come with it and putting in some Duracell Ultras we haven't seen a drop again. It was really bad, dropping at least twice a song. The Duracells seem to fit in place better.

What about the connection/sync issues for RB1 kits connected by USB? Is there any kind of fix for this?
(I'm going to keep hounding people until I get some kind of answer. =/ )

you're having connection issues through the USB on RB1 drums?
....weird.
It sounds like you have a bad USB port..or chord..
Or maybe you just need new RB1 drums.
