I would love to see some Outkast as DLC in Rock Band and Rock Band 2. Songs like Roses, Ghettomusik, Chonkyfire, Spottieottiedopalicious, Idlewild Blue, Prototype, So fresh and so clean, Rosa Parks, Gasoline Dreams. You could have The Roots in there with any of their songs. I mean any song. I just wanna see more. It doesnt just have to be Rock Bands.

I would download any Outkast song and any funk song. Those are actually pretty good choices to expand diversity in RB and keep people from getting bored.

And Christ, Outkast is beyond talented - it floors me when I listen to their music.

Sadly HMX keeps it pretty white around here :D

would you not agree that for every soulja boy in the hip-hop scene there's an equally embarrassing band in the rock scene?

and your "this is rock band" argument has been shot down time and time again by the developers themselves.

I mean there is Rap already in the game. Beastie Boys is a RAP DUO that use rock instruments. Why is it when you suggest something that is not something firmilar to people that they always wanna shut it down saying things like, That doesn't belong in "ROCK band". This game should not just be limited to just the Rock genre.

pimpsc00by
10-26-2008, 05:12 PM
Yeah I think that rockband has gone beyond "rock" genre - its got "Charlene" in there and "Still Alive", I wouldn't say that "still Alive" is a rock genre - so to say that its just a "rock" game is an understatement its more about just having good music

donth8dre
10-26-2008, 05:15 PM
At the same time what is good to you might not be good to me. Even though I own just about every DLC song there is for Rock Band. There are some songs i can do with out. N.E.R.D would be a great addition to this game.

i'm not talking about anyone in particular, because everyone has different tastes...

some would say that would include mainstream rock like nickelback while others would point at a band like slipknot.
some would argue that 80's rock is a smear on the name of rock 'n roll while others would say that punk rock is a disgrace.

it's all subjective and the only way to please everyone is to include everyone at some point.

Rock doesn't have to repeatedly swear or talk about sex to be popular, like new rap. Old rap is okay, like Can't Touch This. But still, I doubt it has guitar and such, or an actual tune for vocals.

And krezin dont look to Wikipedia. Krezin there are new rap songs that aren't about sex drugs or violence. There are songs in Rock Band now that refrences violence, drugs and sex. So dont see what your getting at.

rock music is littered with as much profanity and sexuality as hip-hop.

also, lots of hip-hop artists use guitar and melodic vocals, though neither are apparently necessary based on current music in the game.

I think people are forgetting that these songs need to at least have a guitar in them. If it's missing vocals (YYZ), drums, or bass, that's okay, but really a guitar is what defines rock IMO. People like me who only play the drums would be fine with it though, since most rap songs have drums in them.

This is true but there are alot of songs that use vocals, guitar bass and drums. So i dont know whythere are people here downplaying it. I guess its because its rap music that pretty much outsells most genres.

1. NOT ALL RAP OR HIP HOP IS ABOUT SEX DRUG AND VIOLENCE JUST LIKE NOT ALL ROCK MUSIC IS ABOUT SEX DRUGS AND VIOLENCE.

I would love for there to be some rap/hip hop in RB.
Hip Hop/Rap is actually my favorite genre of music, but only the good stuff, not the mainstream Rap, its bad. I like a lot of genres of music and I think everyone should be open to trying different types of music at some point, or at least supporting of the expansion of the game to appeal to more people.

I don't like country music but I support it being added to the game because more diversity is always a good thing :)

Rage is not rap...at most they are rap rock, although they are also classified as alt rock, funk rock, and alt metal. Still, rap rock means they are a rock group, not a rap group, just as Limp Bizkit is considered a rock group even though they were rap rock. The same also goes for (old) Linkin Park. It takes more than rapped vocals to be considered a full on rap group...what, I'm not sure. But obviously Rage doesn't have it, considering they are considered rap-rock, not rap...case in point, both The Roots and Flobots use full instruments, and yet they are considered full on rap (to the best of my knowledge).

That being said, as long as it uses full instrumentation, I don't care if hip-hop is included. Probably wouldn't download it, but I don't care if HMX makes it DLC.

What song was that? The video no longer exists.

Nu metal bands such as Linkin Park and RATM is the closest we'll have (besides MC Frontalot.) I love Outkast and N.E.R.D. I'm sure Busta Rhymes "Fire It Up" would be more fun to play then "Whatcha Want." HMX has shown interest expanding their libraries beyond "Rock." I cannot wait for Stevie Ray Vaughn and I'm looking forward to more blues. I'd love to see some funk, or even jazz.

As I said before, it takes more than rapped vocals to be rap music, else Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and half of RHCP's music would be rap. Also, I tend to categorize my music by where I buy it from in the store (at least for the overall genre), and RATM has always been in the rock section, no matter which store I go into, while The Roots and Flobots, two other bands that use full instrumentation and have rapped vocals, have always been in the rap section. I'm not sure what it takes to be considered a rap act over a rock act, but Rage doesn't meet the requirement. They are considered a rap rock band, among other types of rock (alt, funk-metal, etc.) but as far as categorization seems to go, as long as that "rock" is in the genre, then they are considered a rock band. Also, I would say that the fact they have 4 different categorizations (rap rock, alt rock, funk metal, alt metal) and only one of the four actually has rap in the name, then they are defintely a rock band. But as you said, semantics. At this point I'm just wasting time waiting for the shower. :P

Again, that being said, if they do include hip-hop, I just hope that:

1) it has full instrumentation, and isn't Jay-Z or something, with synthetic beats charted for the instruments (yes I realize they did it with Freezepop, and yes it annoys me just as much)

AND

2) they pick something more fun than Whacha Want. Seriously, I have friends who never progressed beyond Easy that can beat Whacha Want on Expert (we're talkin guitar here)...

Plus it will probably be DLC, so you don't have to play it.
Personally I would like to see "Doobie Ashtray" by Devin the Dude.
That'll never happen so maybe I will just chart it myself.

Either way, if it has entertaining bass, drums, guitar, and vocals, who cares what genre of music it's been artificially placed in.

I honestly think that they could do it ... I think its more about getting the license... and having Jay-Z on there wouldn't be horrible a lot of his live stuff is all band instruments, and not to mention his collaboration with Linkin Park (I can't remember) was good too, ROOTS would be awesome as well, there are plenty of rap songs that could be done on RB its just a matter of getting them on there.

It's hilarious how uninformed people are about anything they don't like. For example, Lil John in specific has made a number of songs that fit the HMX requirements (guitar/bass/drums/vocals, legally clearable, master tracks of each instrument, etc.).

Perhaps people should look back at the thread where HMX gives the standards for what can and can't be done before saying no...
