Countdown: Fallout 3

So, its like...what? 5 hours and 49 minutes till its in my hand, +14 for drive time +3 for some chippys and soda and opening the game and placing it ever so gently in my box.

Im pumped. Rock Band is my booty call. Fable was something to keep me busy for a bit, but Fallout...Fallout is my main. Its my boo. Its the entire reason that October 2008 even exists.

I know Sean is pumped. He has said so a couple times, at least. Anyone else barely able to contain the excitement? Man oh man, if work doesnt get ended soon, im going to freak. I need to be home, because home means dinner, and dinner means 20 minutes till i leave to wait in line, and that means 30 minutes till fallout, which means 17 minutes till i stay up till 8 am slaughtering mutants.

It is and it isnt. It is a western RPG, so it will play as such, but it will have a lot of its own "fallout" details that are going to completely seperate the games (V.A.T.S.)

But generally, oblivion is a great starting point for how to understand this game.

I just bought Assassin's Creed. and GTA IV cheap on eBay that are going to have to sit on the shelf for awhile until I get around to playing them. I'll probably get Gears 2 after the Holidays on eBay for $40 or so. Saves me some money. :D

and....IT IS.

I have had limited time with it, but the handful of hours i dropped in, were fantastic.

So many choices this time around, there are points in a conversation where you have 5 or 6 options of what to do, all varying degrees off good or *******.

Its a really great game so far, and...i have spent a few hours in game and accomplished NOTHING of the main quest arc. I have been only working on 1 quest, and the rest is sightseeing/bandit killing, lol. There is just so much to do.

V.A.T.S. is great. It looks cool, is easy to use, and works well. It mixes it up so this doesnt just feel like a FPS.

I highly recommend it to EVERYONE who has a minimum of 50-100 hours to blow on a game.

Think...oblivion. Honestly. Its not a twitch shooter (classic CoD FPS/Halo) its a slower FPS. I think, that given the right balance of V.A.T.S. and shooting you would enjoy yourself.

There is nothing more magical than targeting a Raiders head from point blank in VATS with the rifle, and watching that 92% chance of hit rip his skull off in the first shot. And its also fun sometimes to get frantic, and try killing the baddie urself. MAybe borrow it and see? But if you played and enjoyed oblivion, youll enjoy this.

All 360s have a 3-year warranty in case of the RRoD. Even when I signed up on support.xbox.com, it said mine was "Out of warranty", but under it was "If you've experienced the three flashing red lights, there is a 3 year warranty in place, blah blah blah".

Its deff a great game. Im very pleased with my purchase. I would even be willing to sacrifice gears for this, if my girlfriend wasnt awesome and bought me everything i desire.

Both of my RROD were + or - 1 month from the year mark. Got it, and 378 days later, i RROD, and i get mine back and 355 days later i RROD again. So, at 1.5 years, you're doing better than me. lol.

So I got this game yesterday and was able to play it for several hours. So far I'm really loving it. I'm not passing final judgement until I've played it for a while longer (I loved Oblivion at first too but then after a while it got really boring to me) but so far I am very impressed with what they've done with it. The way character creation is handled, being tied to the story like that, is awesome, definitely something more games could take a cue from. I like how so far it seems like every skill is useful in it's own way, whereas in Fallout 1 and 2 many of them were completely pointless. Already I've found a quest that I can't do yet because my Repair skill isn't high enough (I tagged Small Guns, Speech, and Science... the triple S holy trinity of Fallout skills for me!) Hopefully this game can continue to impress throughout.

That said, there is one thing I don't like so far. Assigning my SPECIAL stats is damned hard without the Gifted trait giving me 7 extra points to use. That's my own fault for using it as a crutch every time I play FO1 and 2 though I guess :P.

But so far I have to say that FO3 is a very strong candidate. I won't until next week if it's better than Valkyria Chronicle (it's definitely going to sell a lot more though).

Out of those my personal GOTY is FO3 for sure, but for my personal GOTY it has stiff competition from Valkyria Chronicles. As far as what gaming magazines will say and such, I'm afraid FO3 doesn't have much of a chance against MGS4 and GTA4.

We shall see. GTA4 and MGS4 were great games, but neither offer the sheer size, depth, or hours that Fallout will. So, who will win? The fan favorites, or the massive, epic world that Bethesda created?

fable is nice, but its along the lines of fallout

the only competitor is gonna be left 4 dead.....and itl all depend on how well the co op play really works.
