See, tape works. :) Btw, please post Joker on expert guitar if you can.

great job, those double bass hits woulda been insane if they had them on the chart.. does the tape on the snare actually make it feel a bit better when you hit it? or is it just to fix your ailing pads?

deepbluevibes
11-22-2007, 07:20 AM
Oh, it's just to fix the pads. As for Expert guitar, that's something more in my best friend's area of expertise; i suck ass at guitar games, period.

yeah as i said i got three more videos on the way, although they're all much easier songs (Maps, Blitzkrieg Bop, and Little Sister).

I also don't do that impressive on them, I think I get close to 1st place like 3rd or 2nd place on the Xbox leaderboards, but I don't blow it out of the park like I did with the last video.

Wow man...very well done. Gonna send this to the other guys I play with. Very impressive.

BTW on a side note what's the deal with the tape? Are you just taping them do it gets recognized more accurately?

Awesome!!!!

What the hell happened to you Drums?

They were basically broke out of the box, so i needed to do the tape for a temporary fix.

Yeah, basically. With the drum held down, it's closer to the sensor, so it becomes easier for it to recognize hits and rolls, or at least that's what happened when I tested it.

Won't Get Fooled Again is leagues easier than Blackened; I can see myself getting a 5 star on WGFA after a try or two, but i'm pretty positive that i'll NEVER 5 star Blackened; 4 star if i'm lucky, maybe.

Tonight i'll have a video up of Blackened more than likely, not of me playing it, but just of it on training mode; i'll play along with my drum buttons though so you can hear the full beat lol

Ok I am officially UNinspired now

This games drums is BS

If you play on medium its not at all like your playing the song its just like 1, 2, 1 , 2 , 1 , 2 , 1 , 2 -_-

But then you play on expert and everything just comes down the screen so fast I can't interpet it and I fail

This isn't at all like real drums :(

I feel mostly like rock band is Guitar hero 4 + screw around with drums and singing occasionally hero.... because I can't seem to have any fun with the drums or mic :(

deepbluevibes

Ok I am officially UNinspired now

This game's been out two days; unless you have experience with the drums, you're probably not going to be doing expert for a while. No offense or anything, but from your other topic you made, it seems you don't have much experience with them at all, so it's expected that you need a lot of practice.

So yeah, just give it time, and I mean, yeah, the drumset isn't like a real drumset all that much, but the notes going down the screen are pretty close to the real thing as you can get with four pads and a bass pedal.

As for the notes going too fast, go into practice mode and do that. I had to do that for Blackened just to even see what the hell was going on in the first part.

BTW, my score for And Justice For All is now lowered to #2. But hey, like I said, I expected that; that video has a LOT of mistakes in runs, about 80% my drumset and about 20% me, so i'll fix those once i get the new drumset and practice a bit.

Saw that, and as you saw I commented a ton back (I wish youtube didn't have that damned 500 character limit); i'm not angry or mad that you critiqued me, I don't mind at all. :) I was just explaining myself as to why my drum technique isn't the most normal thing you've seen, and showed you that link to the Slang video which I think shows a bit more normal drum technique, but even then, how I play on my real drumset is different than on video games by far, mostly due to video game pads being really damned small :P

Care to describe a bit more what happened to your drums? Do you know anyone else who's having the same problems, or do you think you just got a bad set? Seriously, so many people are reporting hardware problems, it's gotta be a worry for those of us still considering purchasing this thing.

hundreds of people have reported extensive drum problems, including;

-switched wires (hit green drum, blue drum goes off, vice versa)
-drums painted wrong (two green drums, even though one of them activates red drum in game)
-drums are completely disabled/partially disabled out of the box (my problem, they couldn't take fast hits at all)
-drum poles that allow you to extend/shorten height of drums are broken (unable to tighten/loosen them)
-bass pedal breaks like crazy

i got a bad set though, snce it was this way out of the box.

wow great stuff, nicely done especially with Justice,

just a quick question when the audio from the game cut out while you played justice the sound of the pads could be heard and i have to say it sounded worse than i thought it would, just how loud does it get ie can it be heard in another room for example, i have a young daughter and when i get the game, when it launches in Europe, i don't want to wake her up, she's only a couple of months old so she sleeps most of the time, i was thinking of getting some thin sponge or damping pads but not sure if hits would still register if i did that.

Ouch, all that's harsh stuff. And this barely half a week following the game's release.

What with PS3 games being region free, I've been considering buying a copy off Ebay and having it shipped over here to Australia since it'll work on my machine. Frankly, if it wasn't for the numerous hardware issues so many have been reporting, I'd have done that already.

The way things are though, I just can't bring myself to do it. Who could afford to take that chance, really?

im in UK so not played RB yet but I'm not sure what level to play it on. I play drums for real so was going to start on hard, but seeing the Justice video ( i admit i know that song really well) I'm fairly sure I could play that on expert straight off. So to those who play drums and have played RB do you think go straight for expert? because im just thinking on hard there will be less beats and it could be annoying if i overplay it, maybe

I'm waiting for it to be released in Europe, i'm hoping the problems would be sorted out by then, but that would depend on when they started production of the instruments for Europe we may still have the same issues when it arrives especially with early pre-orders, i may just wait until after the launch and see how it goes before getting it.

I'd recommend going straight to expert. See Run to the Hills on Hard. That not chart for the HH is crazy stupid. I understand the reasoning behind why they choose it like that: less notes should technically be easier (See GH 1-3). Not so for an experienced drummer.

Run to the Hills on Expert, so much better. HH and snare hits flow correctly.

I think i'm also going to try out taping some of the RB pads. I'm also having a tough time getting consistant hits. Found that the edge of the pads seems to be more sensitive. So now i'm playing more down there...kinda feel like I'm doing rim shots all the time.

Electric Drum conversion kit for RB?
I could have sworn I read something a while back from one of the Harmonix devs that they wanted to make it possible for a standard electric drum kit to work with the game. Haven't heard anything on this since then, but man would it be nice. I'm not technically savvy enough to figure this out, but I've got a Yamaha DTXpress kit that would just love to be played with Rock Band!

AdamWill
11-23-2007, 04:28 AM
mrfreshness: it's not that hard to do; DrumMania console versions have supported electronic kits for ages. All it needs is a particular model of Yamaha midi -> USB converter, you plug your kit into the converter and the converter into the USB port of the console, and the game has some trivial bits of code to recognize the input from the USB as hits. I don't think HMX would have much trouble patching it into RB if they felt so inclined. Hey, maybe it's in there already and no-one noticed yet. =)

Interesting!

I'd read a bit about a version of DrumMania that would work with DTXpress eKits but since I'd had absolutely no interest in the music that I'd seen being played on DrumMania I had blown the idea off. The videos I've seen on DrumMania on the net really don't appeal to me...look more like noodling for noodling/difficulty than actual drumming and style. Are there songs downloadable that are more like real drum parts?

Back on topic...

So if HMX can get the code to work with a midi emulator/USB connector, how would we get around requiring an XBOX 360 (or PS3) controller? It appears that you are locked into using the drum kit as the only controller when you are playing drums. Frankly its annoying.

The online videos are somewhat misleading. People tend to only upload videos of the hardest songs, because you get a bit jumped on for being lame if you upload a video of a level 50-60 song or something. But in truth, there's about 20 songs in the level 90 range (which is the 'ridiculous noodling difficulty' range) and another 40 or so in the 70-80 range; the vast majority of the over 400 songs in the arcade version live in the 40-70 range, and look much more like 'normal' drumming. Recent versions have shown a trend towards licensing at least a few U.S. songs - one of the harder songs in the game is Dillinger Escape Plan's 'Panasonic Youth', thanks to its insane time signature, and since then there's been stuff like the Dandy Warhols 'Bohemian Like You' (though that song is pretty lame...). The latest version (V4) is very heavy on licensed U.S. rock songs, it has Black Sabbath's Paranoid (the only song that overlaps with RB AFAIK), Deep Purple's Black Night, Cellador's Leaving All Behind (that song's nuts), Arch Enemy's Nemesis, Anthem's Immortal Bind and several others. These are all licensed covers, not master tracks.

That said, the level 90+ charts do mostly make sense once you get good enough to at least read them, they're just extremely intricate.

DM doesn't have DLC, it's just the songs on the disc and nothing else. There's a PC sim called DTXMania which uses downloaded charts (obviously), you can find quite a few for that, but of varying quality.

If they were going to accept USB input they'd have to change that a bit, I guess. Or the hack would be to have you keep the official kit plugged in too. I dunno, it'd be up to them.

I'd like DrumMania if it weren't for 2 things:
1) I don't feel like hanging out in an arcade all day every day
2) All of the songs are terrible.

I had a feeling the DrumMania junkies would come out of the woodwork when RB came out to **** on people...once again...DrumMania geeks were on youtube LOOKING FORWARD to making fun of rock band because it's easier.

Well grats. Not all of us are into J-Pop or pseudo-techno-japanese-rock-bull**** music. The purpose of the games are completely different. I'm so ****ing sick of comparing 2 things that are really nothing alike.

Rock Band is intending to create a band experience with some difficulty on the higher settings, which is affordable and that you can play in your home.

DrumMania is a more difficult competetive game with obviously more expensive and durable equipment (whoever is crying about Rock Band's drum durability compared to a ****ing arcade game is a ******). It's an ARCADE game, it's supposed to be more based on challenge and difficulty

Why the **** can no one in this piece of **** world co-exist without comparing everything and feeling somehow challenged or offended by others enjoying something? Are some of these people that ****ing miserable that they can't stand it when others enjoy a "Lesser" entertainment? I know not many people on these boards fit into that category but christ, it's all over youtube etc.

um, I'm here because I'm going to buy Rock Band and expect to enjoy playing it. (I'd have it already without this damn Canadian delay). I just mention DM when appropriate because it's an obvious base of comparison, and in this particular instance, I'm just giving MrFreshness some information he asked for. None of it involved any kind of negativity towards RB. So...umm...relax, dude.

BTW, I don't live in woodwork, it's damp in there.

It's kinda ironic that you are doing exactly what you're complaining about in reverse; you're complaining about DM fans needlessly bashing RB, by being an RB fan needlessly bashing DM. Congratulations! For the record, the music in GF/DM covers just about every possible style, including j-pop, j-rock but also jazz (lots of jazz), ska, licensed American rock, whatever you call that kinda lite-techno / traditional Indian music mashup style, and Caribbean-style steel drum songs (which are really fricking tough). So, um, try learning before you bash. Thanks.

and if you're going to get unnecessarily worked up about what people write in YouTube comments...you're going to have a sadly unfulfilling life. YouTube contains possibly the highest concentration of morons ever gathered together in one place on the internet, which is no small feat. There's not really a lot of point complaining about it here.

I suppose when i said "no one on these boards are like that" or something to that extent you just chose to ignore that and assume I was attacking you.

It's not just youtube, it's all over the internet.

And it's not getting worked up about that specifically, it's the principle. It's the fact that there are people who get offended by others enjoying something...it outrages me and it's pathetic.

As for me bashing DM...I suppose I need to say "I THINK all the music sucks"

It's all my opinion, I apologize for not phrasing it as such.

ah, so if all the DM-loving RB-bashers out there (not that I've seen any yet...) said "*I think* RB is a flaming pile of poop!" you'd be happy? :)

And you said:

"I know not many people on these boards fit into that category"

i.e. you said "not many", not "none". That's a rather big difference, as saying "not many" people fit into that category implies that some people *do*. And as you posted it, like, *directly* after my post, there's an obvious inference to be drawn there.

I'd like DrumMania if it weren't for 2 things:
1) I don't feel like hanging out in an arcade all day every day
2) All of the songs are terrible.

1) so you don't enjoy being social at an arcade, that's fine; personally, i only go once every week or two weeks or so.

2) that's personal opinion; just because you can't understand the language doesn't mean they suck; i'm pretty sure you've enjoyed rammstein before, too. as i've pointed out also, a large amount of drummania songs are english-spoken, and very few are j-pop as you say down below.

I had a feeling the DrumMania junkies would come out of the woodwork when RB came out to **** on people...once again...DrumMania geeks were on youtube LOOKING FORWARD to making fun of rock band because it's easier.

Wow, what a stereotype. I enjoy Drummania but by no means will I make fun of Rock Band.

Well grats. Not all of us are into J-Pop or pseudo-techno-japanese-rock-bull**** music. The purpose of the games are completely different. I'm so ****ing sick of comparing 2 things that are really nothing alike.

Here's some of the genres Drummania has;

-Metal
-Jazz
-Pop
-Reggae
-Latin
-Jungle
-House
-Heavy Metal (Dillinger Escape Plan, anyone?)
-Classic Metal (Paranoid by Black Sabbath, anyone?)
-Punk (Blink 182, anyone?)
-Hard Rock

and many, MANY others; j-pop almost makes up less than 10% of the game, and techno is even less. Learn about something before you critique it.

Uh, you tell me; no one was even going nuts about comparing the games until you made this post. I had already said many times that Drummania was it's own game and so was Rock Band, but when you make very incorrect statements about Drummania being all J-Pop, I have to correct you; the latest mix of Drummania has around 30+ American rock/metal songs, and all previous mixes have high mixes of genres in them, nowhere near being dominated by J-pop at all.

A LOT of the songs on Drummania are actually english spoken.

'Cause you can't get any more punk than Blink 182!

Can I just personally take this time to say that -I- was the first person on the internet to start a drummania vs. rock band argument?

Damn... haven't got my hands on RB yet (Canadian here) but you have given all of us north of the 49th something to shoot for and most likely not even come close to... amazing stuff.
