I'm sorry, I know this is nothing new to these forums. I have been sifting through posts all afternoon looking for information regarding 3rd party guitar controllers for the ps3. I find myself very little more informed than when I started. I am starting this thread in hopes to consolidate findings on the matter in the hopes that there is some option out there for us ps3 users who want to play 4-player RB with our friends this weekend.

Here are my own meager findings: i have tried in as many ways possible to connect my ps2 GH1 controllers using the Pelican adapter to my ps3 for use in RB. Nothing has worked - it responds vaguely like a normal "mic" controller.

I e-mailed EA with this concern and they responed with :
"Hi

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Technical Support.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Rock Band is compatible with most third party peripherals. While the Rock Band hardware is the only hardware guaranteed to work with the game, Harmonix has an open platform philosophy of enabling the Rock Band Software to work with as many third party peripherals as possible. PlayStation 2 peripherals are generally compatible but may require a 3rd party adapter to function properly. In these cases, the Pelican adapter is recommended.

Unfortunately, the Guitar Hero 3 Les Paul is not compatible."

!?

i would be happy to invest in a controller if i was assured it would work, Buuuuuut....

from reading the boards, it seems that NO - as in ZERO ZIP NULLSET - third party guitar controllers will work with the ps3 version of Rock Band, making the above response from EA obnoxious in so many ways.

if anyone has found out any other information, via personal research, e-mails to Sony, Harmonix, EA, etc, please post.

PLEASE limit responses to information relevant to the use of third party peripherals with RB for ps3 and try to refrain from conjecture, irrational emotional outbursts, and system vs. system discussion.

again, I apologize if this is redundant, i'm just looking for a solution to this very frustrating issue.

Yeah, they seem to be forgetting that there is only one 3rd party guitar for the PS3 and that is the GH3 guitar.

C'mon EA, help us out here.

Should I trade in GH3 and the guitar and put it towards the Strats that will be out in February? It would be good to know as the trade value will only go down after the holidays.

Will the Les Paul ever be compatible?

Well from what I have gathered, no guitar will currently work on the ps3 version other than the strat, if you get one that actually works. The LP currently does not work, despite various media reports that it would such as Gamespot. It doesn't mean that there will not be a patch in the future to make this compatible, but nothing has been mentioned officially w/ regards to this, and I wouldn't hold my breath on it to happen anytime soon due to the multiple parties involved.

@beeeatme - As far as I know it doesn't work, according to the original poster that is what he had to begin with and it doesn't work, and my man at gamestop said he couldn't get it to work either. Maybe its a hit or miss, but I haven't seen any proof that it does work.

"compatible with most guitar controllers" is very false in the case of the PS3 as the only controller out there that has been confirmed to actually work comes with the bundle or you gotta wait til Feb to purchase. So, that actually means, "Is only compatible with RB Guitar controller" It could have been a generic print for both PS3/Xbox360 boxes as the Xbox360 v. does not have this issue. Or to hint that maybe there will be controllers in the future that work with it, but in fact at the moment there are none available. If nothing else it should have said may not be compatible with other guitar controllers just to cover their own behind.

I am not expert on the subject, so if someone has any proof or evidence otherwise feel free to correct.

The Pelican Adapter seems to currently not work for any GH controllers for the ps2 in my experience and by other reports i have read.

Yea, seriously, I was thinking the same thing. Why in the world would they put that in the email.
