So, after a long night of playing requested songs from a group of about 40 people at a house party i threw..

1 out of 10 request were for a Slow Song...
LoL, i guess things never change... people want to dance but they also want to slow dance every once in a while.

Although, i have downloaded every song to date... the only slow song RB has available ... is "Without You" by Motley Crue.

We played this song a few times to please the crowd but...I was just wondering what the over all opinion of more Power Ballads in RB.

Yeah, I'm sure alot of people don't play in crowds like I do.
Power Ballads prob. wont go over so well playing online either.

But if it's sold as DLC then people have a choice to purchase or not.

I think it fits in the genre of RB. Some of the best slow songs come from ROCK and Country. Hell most of us were created by our Mom's and Dad's because of Slow Songs got them together.

What's your take on this subject?

Please don't turn this thread into a WISH LIST for songs.

I'm all for power ballads and ACTUAL ballads. Don't see the harm in having variety.

Definitely, I was thinking to myself today that Rock Band has a serious lack of ballads and love songs...I know you said not to turn this into a list of songs, but I can't resist...I'd love to have:

I Remember You - Skid Row
Open Arms - Journey
The Flame - Cheap Trick
Nothing Else Matters - Metallica (I know it's impossible now, but I still want it.)
Alone - Heart

Ok, I limited myself to 5 songs =D

Without You by Motley Crew is an awesome power ballad. I'm not particularly a fan of the band (I only bought 1 other MC song) but Without You is easily one of my favourite DLC tracks recently, especially since I upgraded to a Roland Kit using Seth adapter.

So epic playing the beats and you can really smash the crap outta the drums.

I don't know a lot of other awesome power ballads, but if they're as good as or better than Without You, bring 'em on!!

I think everyone agrees that 80's Hair Metal ballads are the best around.

How can you all be forgetting Meatloaf's epic "I'd do anything for love", now thats what I call a power ballad

I would love me some power ballads, Bon Jovi's I'll Be There For You, and the very overplayed but still a classic, Poison's Every Rose Has It's Thorn.

Power Ballads are a MUST have! My good friend stuck in that 80's sound and loves the power ballads more then anything. I'm not like that, but everyone loves a good power ballad once in a while. Home Sweet Home by Crue would be killer. I could name 50 more, but yes, we need power ballads. Even just a 3-6 power ballad pack would be enough really.

yes, power ballads would be great!!!

Or any slow romantic song for that matter, as long as it has the four Rock Band "instruments" in play.

If we allready got a slow song about a parrot that wants a cracker, we should very well also get some songs about love, no?

I think that we could use a few power ballads. If Fade to Black is a power ballad then it should be the first to come in the near future... or 4 months.

Considering how many rock bands whose first number 1 hit was their power ballad I'm surprised we haven't seen many. There are so many great ones to choose from.

I'd like to see "Only Women Bleed" by Cooper.

I'd consider Real Good Looking Boy to be in this category.

I'd like them, but I think it's hard to find more mid-tempo songs that retain interesting drum/bass/guitar work.
Still, it'd be good to have this type of song have a few more selections available.

I'd totally agree with that. Although a lot of power ballads tend to have ripping solos, there's very little guitar work through the verses (relying more on piano) and the drum tracks do tend to be a lil repetative. It'd be good for the singers though and that's not a bad thing!:D

I think it would be great to have more slow songs available. Particularly with the new ability to create setlists, mixing in a slower song in the list would be a welcome break among the faster/harder stuff.

I Remember You - Skid Row

HELL YES! I love 18 And Life, but I can't tell you how disappointed I was that Harmonix picked up that song for GH: 80s instead of I Remember You.

Bring on the power ballads!!

i agree totally, and there are alot of the songs that, even though they are slow, have awesome powerful drum fills and beats, along with awesome guitar solos. i think this would greatly improve RB's appeal to the female audience also, at least to my wife.

Even tho GH Hero already did it, Sweet Child O' Mine would be a good one. I completely agree with Nothing Else Matters too, although 'Tallica is off the board now (The wifey and my first dance at our reception was to that).

I could probably list 50 really good candidates, but then the HMX devs wouldn't have anything to do today.

I would buy any and all at whatever the price.

Isn't this just another hair metal request thread that belongs in Ultimate Setlist forum? My two cents is we have power ballads already (Bon Jovi and Motley Crue) and they are a total bore to play.

JoshuaB81285

Journey - "Faithfully", "Open Arms", "When You Love A Woman"
Motley Crue - "Home Sweet Home"
Poison - "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" & "Something To Believe In"
Scorpions - "Holiday", "Lady Starlight", "Still Loving You", "When The Smoke Is Going Down", "Wind Of Change"
Skid Row - "I Remember You" (I would pay $5 for this song alone)
Warrant - "Heaven"

I should post this in Ultimate Setlist too... ^_^

Yes. I think we've all covered it plenty in all of the 80's hair band threads...

But, it doesn't hurt to refresh HMX's memory that we're still waiting for more...

Growing up as part of the MTV generation I support this 100% as long as it is kept to hair band 80's style.

I do not care who you are, every bad boy has a soft side and this is the kind of music that catches the famels interest and the more into the game my wife is the more I get to play.

I cannot stress how much I enjoy playing "Without You" and it is not even close to being in my top 10 ballads of all time but yet it is the only real ballad in RB so I am playing the hell out of it daily.

Some one in the thread brought up a great point ( sorry no name credit given ), having a slow song thrown in the mix helps out especially after playing one the those famous strummer'thon songs that are all to frequintly popping up. I know I enjoy a break every now and then and ballads are always slow and mellow allowing one to gain feeling back in thier respective strumming arm.

I am not going to get into song titles but without a doubt getting some real power ballads in this game would be a huge huge hit, the DLC's would most definitly jump off the shelf.

HELL YEAH!!

I've been waiting for some but they are nowhere to be seen (I think "Without You" was the first one...but it wasn't that great to begin with).

There are a ton of awesome power ballads that would be fun

Those Skid Row ballads would kick major ass ("In a Darkened Room", "18 and Life" , "Quicksand Jesus" ,etc)

Without a doubt, RB needs some Meat Loaf, and a lot of his stuff fits this category for sure.

You can pretty much take your pick since he has so many power ballads, but here are a few of my favorites:

Two Out of Three Ain't Bad
I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)
I'd Lie for You (And That's the Truth)
Not a Dry Eye in the House

Pantera's "This Love" would totally kicks ass

Skid Row " I remember You"
"Wasted Time"
"quicksand jesus"
"In a Darkened Room"
"18 and Life"
*5 amazing ballads right there - Skid Row pack anyone?? (i know i'm probably the only one ;) ....throw in Monkey Business, etc. It would be sweet AND YOU KNOW IT! ;)

Pantera "Cemetery Gates"

Motley Crue - "Home Sweet Home"

I say 100% YES to Power Ballads. This game needs them badly and needs a lot of them.

I personally think that "Time For Change" off of that same album is better than "Without You", but if you are talking power ballads and Motley Crue, there is really only one true song and that is "Home Sweet Home". It is quite possibly the greatest power ballad ever.

They aren't a bore to sing. There are plenty guitar and drum heavy songs. Why not some mellow songs with fun vocals? 90% of the songs available are not fun at all to sing to me. Women like to play this game, but I'm betting most of them don't enjoy trying to do the vocals. I know I don't. I would love some power ballads to temper the heavier stuff.
As far as requests, I would've loved to see "Always" by Bon Jovi instead of "Living on a Prayer."

I vote YES for Ballads:

The Ballad by Millencolin. Amazing song and breaks out at the end.

Or what about Letters To God by Box Car Racer???

Amazing songs and very heavy in lyrics. Love both of these songs and hold them tight. Would cry if any of them came on Rock Band. But i vote YES!

Is 'Under the Bridge' and 'Simple Man' a power ballad(or simply a ballad)?

I have to agree we need more slow songs, just for the fun for everyone it involves. DLC dont have to be super hard every time.
