View Full Version : Guitar Hero ruined Me!

With it's incredibly sloppy note window and flamey explosions! now I'm trying to compensate for a lag that's not there and I'm screwing up simple sequences constantly!
Last night, after playing Guitar Hero: World tour, I popped Rock Band 2 back in, and I was amazed to see that I was missing notes that I normally had no problem hitting! Hell, I almost failed out on Life is Beautiful! seriously!
Has this happened to anyone else?

Good practice for Visions, sounds like.

Except the hard part of Visions isn't Hammer On's or Pulloffs.

No, but it is good practice for the hammer-on strings. That's about what I had to do, just throw my hand around wildly til something worked, then try to replicate it. I can now do fairly well on it.

Heh, I disagree. That's the only time I fail =P

I'm the other way around. I downloaded the Guitar Hero Aerosmith demo fairly recently and it was boggling my mind that stuff that in Rock Band would've been misses I hit. I felt like I could be extremely off and still hit the notes. if I can just randomly flail my fingers around and hit notes without trying, that's not very fun to me.

yeah, I don't like how easy it is to get stuff in guitar Hero, but like I said, after playing Guitar Hero and getting incredibly good on everything, I come back to rock band and my talent has been sucked from me....I'm missing notes, doing poorly, and just generally sucking, becuase I was trying to play like Guitar Hero, which feels different. The ltitle erupting flames throw my timing off, and the sloppy note windows allow FAR too much lenience.
Like I said, was playing with a friend last night and almost failed a song I can FC. Pathetic, I know.

I like the way GHWT plays. The "lenience" that is spoke of makes for a more satisfying gameplay.
It makes RB2 feel wrong, which kinda sucks, The note charts on the crossover songs are so much more fun and flowing in GHWT.
You are right though, in that it kinda ruins RB2, when you experience how good it could be.
If you dont want to get frustrated with RB2, then DO NOT buy GHWT.

Couldn't disagree more.
GH is a challenge for the left hand only. RB challenges both. Therefore RB is more fun IMO as it works coordination and timing in both hands.
Seriously I 100% a section of consecutive triple strums by keeping a steady rhythm in GH. wtf? And what's with songs that are 90% hammer ons? I don't even have to strum anymore in this game?
But I suppose the GH fanboys have to save their right hand for other activities >.>

The main reason for this is the song selection in GHWT,
which features complex songs with lots of fretwork as opposed to the plethora of strumfests that RB2 offers.
Changing notes every once in a while is extremly boring, as well as painful to my right arm, strumming 4 times a second.
I judge a song on how complex the fretwork is, and not how much strumming there is.
I hate songs that are mostly strumming.
Different strokes for different folks.

Too bad Hendrix, Tool and the other GH "exclusive" artists didnt realize how lame the game would be. They should have jumped on the "Rock band"wagon!

If I play GH for too long it does mess up my Rock Band skills for maybe a song or two. GH is sloppy no denying it.

harmonix should have offered them more money and I am sure they would have.

yeah, i was wondering the same thing. After playing gh3 and then hopping on rb1, i'd miss notes because i thought i was hitting them at the right time, but was actually a little early/late. But the overcharting and difficultly of gh3 helped me get better in rb overall.
so gh:wt's bigger timing window/overcharting = rb's smaller window?

the wide timing window in GH3 was one of the main turn-offs for me.
a rhythm game that steps away from rhythm and timing is like a "realistic" FPS that steps away from the game-mechanics of aiming a gun.

I was a little worried about the different timing system screwing me up when I went back to RB2, but it didn`t really affect so badly.
If anything, it`s got to be good experience to be able to switch back and forth between the timing windows of either game.
