"Official" List of the Most Requested Bands

With all the repeat threads and repeat posters inside threads, it's difficult to tell just how many people want x band or y album in the game. One of the best threads in the "Ultimate Setlist" is the "Pick 5 albums" thread. I decided to see which bands have albums requested the most and here are the results. If I accidently overlooked a popular band, post and I'll add 'em to the list. See the next post for details on how I compiled the list.

I will regularly edit this list as more posts are made in the aforementioned thread.

All I did was run a search inside the "Pick 5 albums" thread and see how many posts contained the name of each of these bands. There are a few drawbacks: 1) people may have double posted, 2) if someone's post is quoted, it gets counted as another post, 3) misspelled band names don't show up (The plus sign after Lynyrd Skynyrd's total is because their name gets misspelled a lot).

The asterisk (*) after a band's name means their name is sometimes abbreviated so they may have been requested a few more times than my search showed. I did add posts containg SOAD (System of a Down), RHCP (Red Hot Chili Peppers), and RATM (Rage Against the Machine), but 3 character abbreviations do not return search results.

The question mark after U2, The Who, Poison, and Heart is because they did not return reliable results. Searches must have 3 characters and "poison" and "heart" are too common. I did add the results for some of their albums.

If a band's name is in bold, they don't have any songs already in the RB series or confirmed as going to be in the RB series.

It didn't surprise me that they are number one, but the margin did surprise me. The reason they have "500+" is because searches return a maximum of 500 results. :eek:

I'm only counting posts inside the "Pick 5 albums" thread which is stickied because threads like the one you pointed out have multiple posts by the same person. Not to say the other thread doesn't have multiple posts per person, but it doesn't have quite as many as all the individual band threads.

I'm considering searching for bands with small names like Dio, U2, and The Who by album name, but I'm not sure how accurate that will be.

Oh I see thats much more efficient. I should have read the top I guess lol. And about searching for bands by album name, I doubt it will work, because 1. I noticed many posters have horrific spelling and 2. other bands might have the same album names.

Added everyone you mentioned that wasn't already on there except for Heart. Not sure how I'm gonna search for them because when you do a search for "heart," you're gonna get more than the band. You also get any other band's that have been requested who have the word "heart" in their album's title. I'm gonna work on the list this afternoon to check accuracy on things like that.

I'd like to point out that Coheed & Cambria for example, and Muse as another, may not have many different results, but you need to take into account the sheer volume and length of their threads.
Just beacause we don't post multiple threads doesn't mean we don't care.

The list has been updated. One surprising change is that I went back did the search again for bands with multiple words in their name and added quotation marks. The result, bands with common words in their name like "Fall Out Boy" dropped significantly.
