No seriously! It's next to impossible for me to sing half the songs because they are male vocals... It's really making me upset because I know how to sing, I was trained in school for about 5 years so I've never had a problem with karaoke before I bought this game... Do any other females out there have this problem? Is there anything I can do about this? I can't play the game at all with my boyfriend and friends because of it... We'll be playing Weezer's 'Say it Ain't So' and it'll fail me within the first five minutes because i'm to high pitched, and sometimes it will even say to low pitched...
I'm thinking about just chucking this game in the trash....

(oh and btw I'm playing on a PS3, dunno if that helps)

I dunno.
I'm a guy, but I can sing in any pitch I want to and it still registers fine.
Falsetto, really deep (although not death grunting, that doesnt work, lol), you name it.

Sorry to hear that, though.
I haven't heard any complaints about it until now.

you can sing an octave above the singer's actual vocals and still match the pitch.

i can do that and I have tried it... it still refuses to acknowledge it... i really don't know how to explain it.... i want to play BWT but we can't get anymore 'fans' unless I go up a higher difficulty, which makes it even worse...

My wife has been singing for YEARS with professional lessons and singing on stage....she sang Wanted Dead or Alive on expert last night...sounded good and got a 100%....don't make it something it's not....just SING.

My GF (who is also an experienced singer) has been able to sing a bunch of songs on hard and expert with no trouble. Of course some are easier for her than others, but generally she can pass any song.

It's a tricky thing. I've been having problems with some of the songs as well. The trick is to just learn how to sing it in a comfortable register. You'll get the hang of it with practice!

well i guess i just suck at singing then......It's possible, but seems unlikely. I'm a guy, but I think this should still be relevant. I'm *maybe* good enough to get to Hollywood (though I seriously doubt it) on American Idol, but certainly not good enough to get past that. On Wanted Dead or Alive (Hard mode), I'm getting 95-98% in hard mode, and more like 98-100% on songs like Creep and In Bloom on hard. Worry about pitch first and lyrics second. Don't try to do strange things with your voice like scream or whatever (as far as points go) :) My vibrato makes the arrow go up and down which is kind of cool, but I don't know if it will kick my butt on expert or not yet.

My guess is that your mic might be bad. Have you tried getting someone else to try a vocal? Even if they aren't that good, you should at least be able to see if the arrow seems to be on pitch with what they are singing or not.

Another idea would be to try a different USB mic if you have one lying around like the Xbox (or possibly a PC) headset.

Of course, if you really want to know whether you suck or not, record yourself. Don't ask your friends because they will lie to you. ;) Everybody thinks they sound worse on a recording than they really do, but you should be listenable if you can sing.

If all else fails, try turning down the vocal track in the game and turning up the volume coming from the mic. Then you can actually hear yourself as if you had a monitor on stage.

my wife sings i drum friend guitar she has no problem. dont try to match the singers voice. that was what my wife was worried about at the begining. just hit the notes in any octave you want.

Make sure static vocals or whatever option it is is off, otherwise you won't have as much freedom octave-wise.

Quite frankly, the problem is that you can't sing well. Go into practice until you hit the proper notes, not what sounds good.

We played with a girl vocalist for a while Tuesday night...she's not a good singer by any stretch, but she got high percentages on Medium every time.

Really? Id didn't think that's how it worked, but I might have to give it a look.

When I actually "sing" I get most of the notes wrong, because I was trying too hard to emulate the singer. On easy this is quite possible and good for screwing around.

On Hard/Expert.... this thing means business. Its all about hitting that pitch in whatever octaves it can pick up, just as stated before. I turned down the sensitivity and I noticed it wouldn't warble as much affecting my score.

A great test is maps on expert, its slow enough to test how the pitches register. Of course its the faster songs that bone me, trying to experiment and sing a song I don't know kills me :D

The mic isn't sexist.... But it is prejeduce against people who can actually sing. I'm a pretty good singer, and was extremely disapointed when singing flat and off key gave me more points than singing how the songs go. It seems to rate you exclusively by range, and certain ranges it doesn't even read. (I tried a death metal growl a couple times, and every time it didn't even register...)

I sang a few songs, and did just fine. It wasn't sexist to me (I have yet to sing a girl song :p)

Maybe you should try a different mic.

Lol - I thought I'd put in my 2 cents, seeing as to that most of the posters are male, and I'm a female singer. I LOVE to sing, and I'm getting 90-100% on Expert mode. I'm getting 85% and up even on songs I don't know! Here's how it goes - and also to respond to the person who didn't like how it gave you points for flat or sharp notes:

Definitely not picky on male or female voices - no matter what octave you sing the notes on, as long as you're hitting the right pitch, you're fine

The higher up in difficulty you go (easy to expert), the more strict the game is on making sure you're hitting the right notes. Try going to training mode and practice a slower song and practice just HUMMING the right pitches.

Even if you don't know the words, just get the right pitches, and get the full notes. Even if you had 5 short words on the same pitch in a whole phrase, and you just HELD THAT PITCH the whole phrase, you'll get an "Awesome" score! Easy way to get your score back up if you are unfamiliar with a song. Stop singing and just hum it. lol

NOTE TO FEMALES - well and guys too. Are there songs that are NOT in your singing range? You may have to sing it going back and forth between two octaves. I personally CANNOT sing weezer along with the guy or in a higher octave, and have to go back and forth, and (musical terms) I know they can't transpose it to a pitch I could sing. So to get high scores, I HAVE to go back and forth between octaves. I know to those of you without much singing experience, this may come as quite difficult, but it can be taught.

Final suggestions, just learn the songs well before trying them. Also - REMEMBER MIKE LAG: mikes usually have lag that other controllers DO NOT experience due to the delay in sound - ever notice your voice on the TV has a half second echo? So when you're hitting a bunch of short notes in various pitches, and you don't get any of the first ones in the phrase, THAT's a good possibility why.

Good luck fellow singers. ROCK ON!!!
