I would be totally fine with the songs being remixed like in Love. That album kicked so much butt.

You really need to check that. Like now :p
Yep, the first 18 takes of the song were before they realized they were going to split it into two different pieces, and apparently take 18 was really crazy and went into this insane jam that went on for 10 minutes until the tape ran out. Apparently the first section of this take was the basis for the album version. This was on Thursday May 30 1968. Page 135 in the book for those of you following along at home.
Highly recommend the book if you are interested in the subject, very thorough and well done.

New instruments sweet, a Hofner bass will be a nice addition. I'll be picking up the LE Premium Bundle for sure. Only 187 more sleeps.

I think I've said this in this very thread - nobody ever said it wasn't Rock Band. Nobody. Not once. They said it wasn't "just" Rock Band. That's not shocking at all. Neither is the fact that there's no freakin' keyboard. Let this be a lesson about not listening to gaming "journalists".

Adding note from Joystiq.com:
Update: Speaking to an MTV representative, we confirmed that despite the "collaborative decision" to append the Rock Band brand, The Beatles will remain a "custom, standalone, dedicated game experience." MTV and Harmonix are not willing to discuss matters regarding DLC or song importation yet. Link (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/05/the-beatles-rock-band-launching-worldwide-on-9-9-09/)

Just in case HMX is monitoring this and gauging sales potential, I'll put in my two cents:
I like and recognize all the mainstream Beetles songs that everyone else does. I'm not a big enough fan, however, to buy a $60 game of purely Beatles stuff, unless I could download the songs I wanted onto the Rock Band platform. I'd probably go over to a huge Beatles' fan's house in order to play it once.
To me, the appeal of the game is creating a music library (like the xbox marketplace advertises) that I can play anytime, without switching discs or being limited in my selection. It's the main reason I haven't bought Guitar Hero World Tour. It's not even so much the money, it's the having it all in one place. I love making random setlists and not knowing which song I've bought will come up next.
Beatles songs would be a great addition to that library. But they won't make me buy their own disc. Just one voice in the wilderness, I know...

I like the Beatles, but not enough to dish out a huge chunk of cash. I mean...I don't even own a "purchased" CD of theirs. Maybe..if it was a disc similar to the Ac/DC pack....just maybe I would get it, but it all seems like a big hoopla over nothing. It won't be even a fifth as popular as Rock Band. I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just being honest. I think it's going to be kind of lame.

I guess that means that just because you don't like the Beatles enough to buy the whole thing, that it isn't going to be successful. If you don't like it enough to buy it, it's lame. *snarl*
I hope it does well, because I believe there will be enough people that will play it at their buddy's house and then go out and get it. That and I'm a huge Beatles fan. If it only ships 200 units, then I won't be sad, because I'll have one of those 200 and will be too busy playing every song over and over to care.

The most important question is will the game support two vocalists singing in harmony?
Without that I think the game will be a missed opportunity.

You seriously underestimate how popular the Beatles are.
...Wait, how would making this game like the AC/DC pack make it more likely that you would buy it? You mean less than twenty songs on an old game engine that was pretty blatantly rushed in order to get it out the door as fast as possible is more appealing to you that 45 songs in a custom-made package that will include tons of exclusive features?
The mind, it is boggling.

I can't wait for the release. I just hope and pray that, at some point, the games will be downloadable. But, I am sure we will have to wait a very long time for a solid answer (anything beyond rumor/speculation).
Either way, I will be making the purchase and playing The Beatles!
Downloadable? Do you mean songs so you can play on RB?
Highly doubt it - This is not a Rock band branded game in any way - Completely seperate from what we know now. So I doubt they will make it so you can just buy the songs online and not bother with the full game experience.
Not sure if this has been mentioned already (11 pages on the thread in less than 24 hours...crazy!!!)
But there is no PS2 version this time around.
Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.
Guess it's time for the old-timers to ditch their hardware and finally upgrade

For the guy hoping to play Band on the Run: I think they said there would be no solo content from any of the artists.
re: the folks who don't think it's worth $60 for a disc of Beatles songs...well, so some, it won't be. To others it will.
Be assured, if Aerosmith and Metallica can do it and move decent numbers, the Beatles will be just fine. If they measure it against those two games I'm sure it will have perfectly acceptable sales. I agree some people won't want the whole bundle...but maybe they will. I'll probably end up getting it just to (hopefully) get another wireless guitar or two, and just some plain old variety. Additionally, I'm hopeful that they're getting better and better at making peripherals, so that anything they put out this September will be of higher quality than the ones that shipped last September.
Plus I just like the IDEA. I'll gladly fork over a little extra cash if it helps convince other labels/bands/etc that Rock Band is a viable mechanism in the music world and will help Harmonix develop an even larger and more diverse library of music for the platform(s).

I'm just thinking how cool the instruments might be.
Hopefully something more realistic for the drums (my friends and family hate the stock kit, and I hate letting them use my Roland/Ion kit lol).
But the thought of a semi-hollow guitar controller, or even a McCartney bass like

Would be too sweet.
I'll invest in the whole collection without a doubt.

Those people also said that there would be no Rock Band name on the game and that we'd get a keyboard, and that the songs wouldn't export. 2 out of the 3 have already been proven false. I'd take anything not from a HMX press release with a grain of salt. Even if it's an interview with a HMX employee, be wary, as they said it wouldn't be a Rock Band branded game, and that has already changed.
Solo artists are unlikely in my opinion, but it's too early to rule them out. When we get a final setlist, we can say that they will or won't be in it definitely.

Unless the songs are exportable I will not buy this. The best feature about Rock Band is its song importation. As a company Activision does not follow that trend and I believe it's one of the reasons why that company is lagging behind in the rhythm game scene. It's a trend HMX should NOT be following - but I'm gonna assume that there are licencing issues... or I'm just giving them too much credit, I mean HMX is still a company out to make MONEY.
So I won't buy it unless there's song importation; and don't anyone give me BS about 'oh, it's an art piece and wouldn't work in RB, etc.' It's a palatte swap people. At the end of the day its going to be JUST like RB but with all beatles songs and some different colours and graphics.

You are aware what they say about making assumptions, right?
Makes an ass out of you.
No one can claim it will just be Rock Band with different colours and graphics.
They could easily implement real characters for the first time (Which I highly see happening in this case), they could link the lipsynch technology to just those characters, preventing them from being used in the official Rock Band game(s).
There are a lot of 'If''s out there.
Why not wait to see what happens when it comes out.
Unless you're just a cheap-ass tightwad, who thinks you are owed more and more for having bought one game.

Exactly. Do people really think that in a year where they're not releasing RB3, that this is just going to be a glossed over RB2 with Beatles stuff thrown in? They bid big to get this license and it's foolish to think that we're not going to see some innovations to the genre in this title. It will likely be a completely new engine or at least a heavily upgraded one. There's also a very strong possibility that we'll see rhythm guitar brought back, in addition to having bass, lead, drums and vocals.

Do people really think that in a year where they're not releasing RB3, that this is just going to be a glossed over RB2 with Beatles stuff thrown in?
Yes, this is what I think. It will have new venues, probably new characters, and the "tour" will be tailored to look more like the actual career of the beatles. Heck, it may even include some videos, interviews, and other fun beatles facts, but I'm not expecting any revolutions in play.
They bid big to get this license and it's foolish to think that we're not going to see some innovations to the genre in this title.
They bid big because the beatles are expensive and know what they are worth. Not because the beatles music or the beatles catalogue somehow lends itself to new rhythm game innovations. Actually, one way to recover the licensing costs quicker is to invest less into the design of the game. People buying this game (especially if it is stand-alone only) won't be looking for some huge innovation... they'll be looking for a new/fun way to experience The Beatles music.
It will likely be a completely new engine or at least a heavily upgraded one.
Interesting theory. Again, one way to recover licensing costs is to invest less in design. I think this means the game is very unlikely to sport huge programming upgrades like a new engine unless they started designing this for the RB3 platform, decided to forgo RB3 this year, and then will release RB3 later... at which point the Beatles will be made importable into that game. I'm honestly still not convinced we won't see a RB3 this year. With Beatles dropping in mid-September, there's plenty of "space" to rush a RB3 in just before Christmas... even if it is game-only or bundled with the Beatles instruments in support). That's reaching... but no more than claiming this game will be on a new or heavily upgraded engine...
There's also a very strong possibility that we'll see rhythm guitar brought back, in addition to having bass, lead, drums and vocals.
I think this claim is totally bunk. I hope I'm wrong, but you're really just guessing... and so am I.

I'm aware that it was mentioned somewhere that there would be no songs from any of the member's solo stuff, however I was referring to bonus content that would be made available to those that pre-order. Interesting article.
We hear that the game play itself and the interface in The Beatles will be relatively unchanged from Rock Band, but that there will be more to the game than just playing Beatles songs. Players will progress through settings made famous by the group, like Shea Stadium, the Cavern Club and 1969's rooftop concert. And those settings will be much more interactive than what gamers currently find in Rock Band.
The deal inked by MTV Games gives Harmonix access to more than 300 Beatles songs. We've heard that the selection on the disc will be quite varied , including folksy Here Comes the Sun, classic rocker I Feel Fine, proto-metal Helter Skelter and even Ringo Starr‘s charming Octopus's Garden.

But it would be surprising if the disc included more than 50 or so songs when it ships. I expect that, as with Rock Band and Rock Band 2, MTV Games is willing to take a loss on the game itself with hopes of later earning it back through individual song sales.
VERY good point. HMX has access to the ENTIRE discography. Obviously, the standalone game is going to feature a LOT less than 300. Yes, 45-50 tracks seems reasonable, and the norm for GHAerosmith and GHMetallica.....then again, they could go much higher than that, since RB features 84 songs on a single disc.
But a very likely scenario would be this: "Rock Band: Beatles" may well turn out to be a standalone (the MTV rep still uses that word) with about 50-70 major hits. Meanwhile, HMX still has well over 250 songs in the library to use, so guess what?
...Beatles DLC in packs and/or full album content released to the core Rock Band game through the Music Store.....

I have not heard anywhere that HMX got 300 songs except from that opinion peice above, which did not have a source. I don't doubt HMX was given the pick of the entire catalog, but I would be very surprised if they received the rights to produce every song.

300 Songs is well above anything put out by The Beatles. At the last count I did, I think I came up with approximately 150 songs (all B-sides and EPs included, as well as "Let It Be" and "Let It Be - Naked"), so they'd have to have access to all of the archives as well, something I don't see happening here.
The Beatles are pretty protective of their legacy, and I can't see them releasing something through this game that got cleaned up in later takes or the like. Yes, we got the Anthology series, but that was clearly aimed at fans. This game has to appeal to the average joe, as well as the fan, so I don't see them including earlier takes of songs at all.

What about Free as a Bird and Real Love? Those were not part of the releases and were created with the Archive collections... I doubt we will see those, but who knows, I could be very wrong.

wow, hmx basically has complete access. i can't even imagine how cool it is to hear all those masters!
i feel pretty confident we'll be gettin the cream of the crop on disc. however, additional Beatles dlc would just be piling that icing on an already awesome cake.

Well, I put this in a different thread, but I thought I'd repost it here.
"The Beatles: Rock Band will allow fans to pick up the guitar, bass, mic or drums and "experience The Beatles extraordinary catalog of music through gameplay that takes players on a journey through the legacy and evolution of the band's legendary career," according to the release."
"The game will also have a limited number of new hardware offerings modeled after instruments used by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr throughout their career."
How do you think we'll get to "experience" our new game?
I'm hoping they update the interface of the menus and also the "note highways" to a more retro feel. Maybe more realistic avatars of the Fab Four? I want to play Get Back and have the real video of The Beatles playing on the rooftop.
How are they really going to update the instruments? "...limited number of hardware offerings moldeled after instruments used by...."
They confirm Ringo, so it's obvious we're getting a new drumset, but what more could they do besides add the famous drum logo to the front of the Ludwig drums?
Of course, Paul's Hofner Bass will have to be included.
John's Rickenbacker 325.
George mostly played a Gretsch hollow body electric, but we don't need 3 guitar peripherals. Especially with only 3 "note highways" fitting on the screen at once.
I'm hoping for a double mic setup for some harmony or something. They had more songs all singing together than separate. It seems like something they should add in, but I guess you could just share a mic with a buddy.
I think a piano or keyboard would open up so much more of not just The Beatles music, but many other bands. But how to fit it onscreen with all that other junk?
I'm just wondering. I mean, $250? For what, exactly?

IF there will eventually be Beatles DLC, then I see no reason why an export would not be allowed.
It makes no sense to be against the export, yet allow individual DLC songs.

Because the DLC could be strictly used on TB:RB disc.
Buy 40-50 songs for $60 and then have a ton of other DLC to be used but can only use it with that game.
That's how I see it playing out (if we get any DLC at all)

Makes sense, makes everybody happy....if HMX has full run of the Beatles discography (as articles report), then they can put 50+ #1 hits on the standalone game and STILL have tons more all-time classics available as DLC for the Rock Band core game.

I'm glad Harmonix got access to pretty much the entire library--they seem to know what they're doing.
I also hope that Carnival of Light makes it into it.

Here's a good little nugget from Billboard magazine: LINK (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/dhani-harrison-talks-new-band-beatles-video-1003950636.story)
(Dhani) Harrison is also looking forward to another release this year -- "The Beatles: Rock Band" interactive game that's due out Sept. 9 and marks the Fab Four's first entry into the digital music distribution realm. He's been intimately involved in the project and promises it will feature "stuff that has never been heard, never been released," though he's not at liberty to reveal specifics.
"I took the project to Apple and sort of convinced everybody to have a presentation," says Harrison, who was used as a model for some of the game's characters. "My job description is...being enthusiastic. We've been working on it for the past two years. This is the first one that is going to be totally, historically accurate. It's been a real headache, but it's been the most enjoyable work I've done in my life."

Awesome. Glad to see Dhani involved so intimately with it, and I see now why HMX is releasing thenewno2's album as full-album DLC....regardless of how well it sells, that's one way to say "thank you."
And allow me to quote him again for those of you who missed it:

Not really a lot of new information, but pretty nice to see the game is being demoed:
Talking to Gamasutra as part of an in-depth interview to be published in the near future, GameStop SVP of merchandising Bob McKenzie has been discussing prospects for The Beatles: Rock Band, suggesting that the "added material" in the game elevates it above being another Rock Band iteration.
When GameStop's McKenzie was asked about the title and Wii price point in particular, he noted: "It's gonna be interesting, but again seeing the demo of that product -- I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but after I saw the demo and the Harmonix band got up there and they did that for us, I was ready to go out pre-order the $250 SKU."
McKenzie, whose firm will be one of the largest retailers of the title, suggested The Beatles: Rock Band is beyond even some of the other band-specific music titles released recently:
"It's just got that much value to it, and I think it's entertaining because it's not just another guitar product or another version of Rock Band; it's actually got some of the cutscenes and some of the added material from the band and from that era."
The GameStop exec concluded by noting: "That kind of adds the value when you're looking at, say, the $60 or even stepping up to a $250 product for the complete kit. I think they got the right combination of putting a quality product together with some added value -- additional content -- and really making that compelling for the consumer."

I'm willing to bet that the cutscenes will either be actual footage of something like interviews or it will be studio chatter and the like synched with the characters.
Knowing HMX, these will have a purpose.

$60 for a Wii game, that's nuts (usually, Wii games are $50), & $250 for a band kit, that's just going too far. I'll need to raise some massive cash for that band kit (even though I may get the game only, if it works with GHWT & GH3 gear).

A real example is Blizzard, which makes HUGE content patches for WoW, for free. Why? It keeps people coming back and maintaining their subscription.
The RB corollary would be DLC. Patch the game to improve it, more people keep playing the game and buying DLC, AND are also more inclined to buy RB3 when it comes out. Thus keeping the programmers paid.
In order to play WoW, you *HAVE* to pay 15 dollars *EVERY* month plus the install software (not including the expansion packs, although you don't have to buy those). You don't have to buy DLC for Rock Band, and the instruments crossover with new installments. The majority of the RB consumers (unfortunately) do NOT buy DLC. DLC just keeps HMX on their feet. Besides, WoW is a f**king monopoly.

It looks like The Beatles: Rock Band will have DLC. This is from an April 2nd interview with Harrision. The interview is pretty interesting to read but the only new information is from the last paragraph:
http://www.esdmusic.com/tag/beatles-rock-band/
Harrison said, "[Apple] really didn’t need much convincing if you looked to the fourth quarter, the month of December 2007, I think they sold something like 10,000,000 units of ‘Guitar Hero 2′ in just one month, and they are $50.00 each. I said, ‘If you do the math, if you go 50/50 with ‘Rock Band’ and you sell a Beatles ‘Rock Band’ game, that’s a big deal’ you know. And not to mention that, once the game is made, you can just keep adding songs to it. You could do the Bangladesh pack, you could do the ‘Live and Let Die’ pack, you could do the ‘Imagine’ pack…”

The prospect of DLC for the game, possibly including music from the band's solo careers, is awesome.
I'm seriously getting excited for this game now. I just hope the 45 songs thing turns out to be BS, because the game itself couldn't take up much more disc space than than RB2, unless it's got tons of cut scenes and stuff, so it would seem illogical to have so few songs on it. I'm hoping for 60 songs+
Also, many people seem to be complaining about the lack of challenge in The Beatles' songs, proving the point of rhythm games has been lost on many. This is going to be about a ridiculously fun full band experience. Also, the guitar never sounds boring to play on many songs, Ringo's drumming sounds really interesting and fun to play along to, the basslines sound good (Especially Taxman,) and vocals.... it's the Beatles.
HMX, please put Taxman and Rain in this game, and I'll love you forever.

Not necessarily. It says DLC may be available for the Beatles game. If the masters aren't in shape to be separated (particularly the drums) then they may be innovating a new way to play the game with "broken" masters. If that's the case, then the DLC won't be compatible with Rock Band 1/2 unless they patch it to handle the new format. It's still a waiting game...

I read somewhere that an HMX employee said separated drum masters are not too vital. The Who masters weren't separated, so I doubt they would be too picky with The Beatles.

If the tracks have been truly remastered (as claimed in the article) and the old masters were unusable, then that means that songs that may have not been usable in Rock Band 2 without a patch will now be usable. I was in the camp that the reason the Beatles had a separate game wasn't just an ego issue from the band members, but more of HMX needing to re-engineer the game engine to work with masters they couldn't previously work with. When the title was changed to include Rock Band, I had a feeling they may have found a way to use the same engine with the masters, and this gives a little more reason for my suspicion. I could be dead wrong, but only time will tell.

4 Versions on CD? Are you importing them? "Who's Next" was only released 3 times in North America:
1) The original no-frills release
2) A remixed/remastered version from 1995 (from when all The Who albums were put through the process) with a couple bonus tracks
3) A Deluxe edition from 2003 with a second disk.
So, unless you have an imported version and two copies of the same version it's not possible to have 4 CDs of "Who's Next". Anyways, that's neither here nor there. If you're wondering how many copies you can have of the same album? I have 6 copies of "Who's Next" (1 Deluxe Edition CD, 1 Deluxe Edition vinyl, 1 Remastered CD, 1 Original Mix CD, 1 1971 Release Vinyl and 1 Canada exclusive "Masterphile Series" re-release) and 6 Copies of "Live At Leeds" (2 1970 Original Relase North American Versions, 1 1970 UK Import original release w/all documents intact, 2 1995 Remaster CDs (1 is in vinyl recreation sleeve) and 1 2001 Deluxe Edition CD)
Regardless, really looking forward to hearing more about this game. I want to know the setlist already!

THIS INFO HAS BEEN ADDED TO FIRST POST.
We now know part of what will make up the special bundle. This is from a Gamestop e-mail that was sent out on April 14th.
"Most of us remember the first time we heard The Beatles. This fall we'll have the chance to experience what it was like to actually be one of the Fab Four with The Beatles: Rock Band, which takes players on a journey through the band’s legendary career. We've just learned that the Limited Edition Premium Bundle will include The Beatles: Rock Band software; a Höfner Bass controller; The Beatles-inspired and Ludwig-branded Rock Band drums with classic pearl finish, a metal kick pedal and a vintage replica drumhead; plus a microphone with stand, as well as additional special content. Supplies are limited! Reserve your bundle now!
We'll soon bring you details on how to join The Beatles: Rock Band Pre-order Club, which will allow you to receive breaking news and access to exclusive game elements, including art and behind-the-scenes footage. Available September 9 for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. Reserve online now or at your local GameStop."

I'm glad to hear the bass is there (as expected) since there is currently no bass option that I know of for the PS3.
Also, the drums sound like they could be pretty awesome. We'll see how that comes out in the long run, but cool nonetheless.
Already have a mic and stand, so nothing major there unless the functionality is a little better (I've always had some slight echoing issues and the singing isn't overly clear).
What I am curious about is that they do not mention a lead guitar... was it forgotten in the e-mail or are we not getting one? If we're not getting one, that's a really 'interesting' move especially because of the popularity of standard guitar...
The bass might sell this bundle to me, not because I care about what it looks like, but because I like the idea of having a bass that plays differently than the standard guitar. Also, I'm still playing the RB1 drums and guitar, so I'm really starting to need the upgrade (assuming they are both in there).

So, if the only guitar controller we're getting is the Hofner, why put up Harrison's guitar and Lennon's (unconfirmed, I know.) ? Maybe the guitar only pack will get one of those? (Which would suck, if I'm dropping 250 for the bundle, I want ALL the Beatles peripherals possible.
Unless the instruments presented on the website don't have any correlation with the instruments we'll actually get in the game.
Who knows, just give me some more info, dammit!
Ramirez16

I guess the guitars are the ones that are $99. $250 can only go so far they're not going to put three guitars, drums, mic, mic stand, and the game in there for $250.

Just out of curiosity....what if the only way HMX can make The Beatles compatible with other RB songs is to make them importable into The Beatles vs. making The Beatles exportable?
Good question, but let me rephrase that:
Will the Beatles:RB be able to play all the RB1 songs and DLCs that are already on your hard drive? (And in the future, RB2 songs when they allow us to copy them on to the hard drive)?

I'd vote to not have anything imported into RB:Beatles (except Beatles DLC). I think that this should be a stand alone game (because I think it will be a bit more RPG than just music).
If the only way to import would be RB2 --> RBB, then I'd be for waiting and have RB2 --> RB3 & RBB --> RB3. This gives RBB a year of exclusivity (which seems to be favoured by Apple), and eventually satisfies HMXs idea of having RB be a platform.
If there is Beatles DLC, I would hope it would be playable on RB2 & RBB.

Well, I got my Game Informer (Issue #193 Assassin's Creed II) and it had these things to say about The Beatles: Rock Band.
1. Page 16 - More details are coming out about The Beatles: Rock Band. The PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii versions hit stores on 9/9/09 (later for PS2), and will be sold in a full-band bundle for $249.99, and as a standalone game for $59.99. The instruments will be modeled after the Beatles' own although you can also use your existing ones. Dhani Harrison, son of the late George Harrison, recently let slip that the game would feature unreleased Beatles songs.
Not much, but we found out about the instruments today.
2. Page 25 - Future Features For Rock Band - Rock Band is always offering new content via downloadable songs, but new features are in store for fans of the franchise. Loose Talk has heard that The Beatles: Rock Band will allow multiple singers with different microphones to harmonize on the vocal track to replicate the fab four's fabulous harmonies. We're also hearing that the Rock Band franchise will support some kind of user-created content.

Looks like that fellow who claimed to have messed around with the demo of the game was telling the truth! He mentioned harmonies involving 3 vocalists being a feature.
Here's the post:
I had a chance to play around with a demo of the game. It's not super-significantly different from Rock Band, although one very cool upgrade is the addition of the opportunity to hook up 3 mics and sing three-part harmony. Plus there's a harmony-trainer that teaches you how to sing harmony. Cool.
The graphics are great -- the settings are the Cavern Club, Shea Stadium, a psychadelic Sergeant Pepper-y locale, and the rooftop setting of Let It Be. Captures the Beatles head movements, gestures, and facial expressions shockingly well, though I guess nobody should ever be surprised by the incredible detail that can be poured into a video game.
Like I mentioned, the game play isn't all that different from Rock Band, but it seems deeper just because the music is so complex.

Now, about the price for the Wii game. Wii games are usually cheaper in the US than their other system counterparts just like in the UK. The Beatles Rock Band Rumored to Use Multiple Mics
Backup singers may be able to provide some harmony in the upcoming music game.
By Kris Pigna, 04/15/2009 (1up.com)
As if a pretend four-piece band wasn't complicated (and ridiculous) enough to set up in a living room as it is, a new rumor says that the upcoming The Beatles Rock Band may expand the experience even more. According to the rumor section in the latest issue of Game Informer (via Destructoid), The Beatles Rock Band may be adding the option to use more than one microphone, so other players can harmonize with the lead singer.
Considering this is coming from the magazine's rumor section, it's obviously unconfirmed, but it would make a certain amount of sense. For starters, The Beatle's discography does naturally lend itself to the inclusion of backup harmony singers. But also consider, as Destructoid notes, that the $250 limited edition bundle of the game will come with a mic stand -- which would surely come in handy for any backup singers who might also be playing another instrument, wouldn't it?
But again, this is still just a rumor for now. Keep those fingers crossed, wannabe vocal harmonizers.

Upon hearing the news that the bundle would include a Bass I was pretty excited. I think Bass deserves its own thing and having a guitar that plays differently (hopefully) would really add to a different feeling for it. Also, the drum kit sounds pretty awesome (we'll see how it is actually executed).
After some reflection though (and I hope I can be proven wrong as more details on the instruments/game are released), I am actually quite disappointed that a regular guitar will not accompany the pack. The main reason being that I really need one and was hoping to pick a new one up with the game (cheaper by the bundle).
Additionally, I really think I have no need for a mic or mic stand (I have both already... and in fact I already have 2 mics IF there are harmonies). The only way I'd want another mic is if it were wireless.
Basically, with the info I have right now, the price tag seems purty steep for a bass, drums, and game... unless the drums are absolutely epic (meaning strongly built and not cheesy looking).
So, all in all, I'm torn and I really hope instruments will be offered separately (at least eventually) because at that price tag I might rather pick and choose.

I think it's safe to say that the Hofner will function exactly as a regular RB guitar would. It may have a longer neck but I doubt with it's inclusion in the bundle it will even have the split strummer that the Fender bass has. Harmonix isn't going to include a guitar peripheral (even one modeled after a bass guitar) that wont function well as your primary guitar for those that will only have the one included.
As far as separate instruments, an earlier press release stated that the guitars would be sold separately at 99.99 each. No word on the drums (that I know of).

I almost believe it is imperative that TB:RB will have to include multi-vocals because unless the game is way overcharted, you're not going to have the same difficulty level that we have become accustomed to. Let's face it, the songs themselves, if done correctly, are not going to be that hard to play. The Beatles were not known for their amazing fretwork or hardcore drum fills. After getting through Painkiller, Hey Jude would seem like heading back to Kindergarten after graduating college. Not that I'm dissing The Beatles, it just is what it is. The Beatles had simple melodies and beautifully interwoven vocals. I think the only way to raise the level of play to match that of RB and RB2 is to force the player to step up to the mic while playing an instrument at the same time. I know there are a few of you Rock Gods out there that can do both on expert at the same time (if you can, you probably need to put down the plastic and pick up some real instruments), but I know I am forced to drop down some levels to play guitar and sing. That's where the difficulty for this game will come from. Plus, when you add in 3-part harmonies it just gets even tougher. That's the only way I can see that the game would hold much long-term playability.

You may be right (and it did occur to me that might be the case).
If you are right, then I think HMX is missing a glaring opportunity to "evolve" the game. Part of the reason bass is looked down upon is because it is (generally) just a dumbed down, repetitive version of guitar that requires basically the same skill set. Incorporating a different peripheral design (a longer neck is not "different") wouldn't preclude people wanting to use a regular guitar from doing so while at the same time providing a fun change for those who drop the cash.
Also, if you are right, my interest in the bundle just went through the floor...

How do you propose to evolve the Bass playing? Show me something that makes sense and I'll give you credit up the wazzoo.
There really isn't a way to "evolve" the bass, outside of adding more buttons (which wouldn't add that much in all honesty). Bass really is just a "dumbed down repetitive version of guitar" (and I'm a Bass player too), with the exception of a few select amazing Bass players who took their art to the next level (John Entwistle, etc).

Do you have the P-Bass? You can use it as your primary guitar just as well. I mean, I use it as my primary guitar, whether I'm playing bass or not. I kinda have to - when you play online people usually like switching between guitar and bass and it's not like you'll want to switch controllers just to play guitar (and it's a pain in the butt with 360 controller sign in issues). It works great for me.
I actually prefer it even if I'm playing guitar BECAUSE of that longer neck. As a real guitar player, I like how it's closer to the size of a real guitar neck and it feels more comfortable for me to use for that reason. I know when I'm forced to use the Xplorer for GH2 and GH3 I hate how I have to have the elbow of my fretting arm like right up against my body when I play. It's so uncomfortable.

I almost believe it is imperative that TB:RB will have to include multi-vocals because unless the game is way overcharted, you're not going to have the same difficulty level that we have become accustomed to.
If anyone is playing the Beatles game for challenge sake, I think they're in for a huge disappointment. This, in my opinion, is a game for the fun factor.

Agreed, but I still hope it supports multiple vocals. Not so much for the challenge, but for the fun factor. I do voxtar/voxbass already. My husband's preferred instrument is vocals so when we play together, I can't officially sing in game but I do sing backup vocals/harmonies anyway. I'd love it if what I'm singing anyway it would do something in game. That would be fun to me. I'd also have an excuse to buy a second mic stand. :)

I agree with this - especially on drums...

It's been basically confirmed that The Beatles: Rock Band will have vocal harmonies.

I don't know about that. Just because everyone WANTS it doesn't mean it's Basically been confirmed.
Look at it from a players standpoint... how can they do that for solo players? They going to allow you JUST to sing the songs if you want?
Also, thus far Rock Band games have always been 4 players. 2 Singers means you HAVE to make one person on a instrument and singing.
I will say it's a strong possibility, but I wouldn't get too excited until we see something solid. However, the inclusion of a Mic Stand over Ringo's drums on the official website is pretty interesting, especially now that we have confirmation of a mic stand being included in the Bundle!

Game Informer reported it. That's a pretty credible source methinks.

All I see from Game Informer is the phrase "rumor has it" which means exactly what it says.

Rumor also had it that Moving Pictures would be a DLC album, and they got that right.

I'm a quite seriously hoping that the TB:RB 'violin bass' will feature the dual strum bar akin to that featured on the P-Bass. I have been considering purchasing the P-Bass as I wanted something different for my bass player, but was holding out for the rumoured wireless version. Now, the split strum bar is apparently patented by Mad Catz, which means there's a good chance it might not feature on any first party HMX instrument. But there's hoping that said feature, which really defines your fake plastic guitar as a fake plastic BASS guitar, more so than a longer neck, will be included. Perhaps the rumoured wireless version IS the beatles bass

As has been mentioned, the P-bass features the split strummer, which does define it as a bass more-so than a long neck. It takes the bass (having basically the same kind of charts as guitar except slower and more repetitive for most songs) and forces the player to use a different style. When you think about it... that's all a real bass guitar is. So, although the P-bass split strum may be patented, I am hoping that the official HMX bass has some sort of different strum style. Frankly, I'm not at all interested in a bass where the only difference is a slightly longer neck and a different overall look. That's all I was really saying. Officially differentiating the bass by releasing a HMX bass with a different strum style would be a first step in bringing the bass into it's own...
Right now, I admit I don't play the bass because it seems like a less fun version of guitar. If I had to adapt to a new playing style, I might have a bit more respect for the bass and feel the need to play it instead of the guitar (I really enjoy switching to everything for a change of pace but on bass my playing style is pretty much identical and I don't get anything different out of playing it).
Edit: And as a person playing on the PS3, I don't have the option of the P-bass. On that note, is the P-bass pretty awesome? I am wondering if HMX might actually benefit in the long run by teaming up with someone who does periphs like Mad Catz (to replace what Red Octane used to do).

Yeah, I am hoping the bass will provide a different style of game play and that is why they are including it in the bundle.

HEY!
I got ya'll some stuff to check out.
Ya know... like.... FOOTAGE FROM THE BEATLES:ROCK BAND!
Look behind Paul at the big screen. Takes a few to get into it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHZIpZCsrwA
EDIT: I like this one better. Just not as long.

And the official confirmation.
It was a night of high emotion, the anniversary of losing Linda, memories of George and John and Liverpool youth, it was a night of conquering a whole new crowd, it was a night of firsts and was the unexpected, unannounced world premiere of the images from the coming Beatle Rock Band game which played on vast screens throughout Got To Get You Into My Life.

Great find, Errant. :)
Hard to tell from the video, but what I could see looked like spot-on captures of the band. It was mainly Paul, of course (possibly for legal reasons...???), but his look was perfect. Seemed like an Abbey Road studio venue and some sort of psychedelic trip with the band flying through space and fireworks and stuff....the headphones and the Hofner look great.

Sayburr, will you add to the OP that the rating of this game is T?
It's rated T for tobacco references and mild lyrics. So I got to thinking....
A Day in The Life Lyrics:
Woke up, got out of bed
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup
And looking up, i noticed i was late
Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke
Somebody spoke and i went into a dream...
And, I'm So Tired Lyrics:
I'm so tired, I'm feeling so upset
Although I'm so tired I'll have another cigarette
And curse Sir Walter Raleigh
He was such a stupid git...
Can anybody think of more?

I'm pretty sure the tobacco references would go under "Mild Lyrics" or "Lyrics".

I think what Errant was aiming for was trying to find songs that had tobacco references --- those are the ones we could add as likely appearing in the game.
And yes, I'd luh-huv to see "A Day In the Life" and "I'm So Tired" in the setlist, but both seem pretty iffy in terms of actual gameplay --- not much to do for anyone but the vocalist(s). ..
