Dear Prudence is in! Rocky Raccoon is out! Hey Bulldog is confirmed!

EDIT: You have to hit Listen on the page.
4:05 Rocky
4:15 Dear Prudence
4:40 Hey Bulldog
... I can't listen to the last minute or so for some reason, so if someone can listen to the whole thing in case there's any info at the end that'd be great.

Oh my God, Rocky Raccoon, looks like Harmonix called me to ask me which songs I wanted!
EDIT: nevermind, found!

What? No "Rocky Racoon"? This is a travesty!

It could come as DLC (Please, HMX? I find your lack of White Album songs on disk disturbing.)

I'm with you all the way on Happiness Is A Warm Gun, although I suspect we are down to one more song from The White Album, which is almost certainly to be Helter Skelter. No bad thing, of course, because Helter Skelter will be a blast, but I've really gotten into HIAWG in the last little while.

The next Pre-Order Club update is going to make you all soooooo happy ...
The hype grows apace and the plot thickens!
I seriously hope it isn't entirely about the stuff that has leaked out. That would be a bit of disappointment.

I get the impression that they weren't too happy with all the disappointment over the whole VH1 video things. So I think they're only hyping proper stuff that's unleaked now. Well, at least, I hope:D

If it is a trailer, I can definitely see a few songs already leaked being in it: A Hard Day's Night, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and Something.
We really are in the end game now. To think, we are possibly only a few hours from finding out the entire setlist! :D

Strictly speaking, there are still 20 songs to be 'announced'. But there have been at least 7 leaks that are certain to be in the game, so depending on who you speak to there is between 10-13 songs to be revealed.
Sgt Peppers/Friends count as two separate songs for the purposes of the 45 on-disc songs, but are to be played together.

Confirmed:
Something
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
A Hard Day's Night
I'm Looking Through You
Ticket to Ride
Hey Bulldog
Dear Prudence
Strong consideration:
Come Together
Don't Let Me Down
One After 909
So, although there's 13 to be confirmed, those three strong considerations show that it's really 10 left.

Ahhhh! No "Rain" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" rumors yet! [Sniff, sniff.]
I am not as anxious over "A Day in the Life" and "Helter Skelter" anymore. The former will come, if not on-disc, as DLC at some point. So that's pretty cool. And the latter is likely to be included anyway.
chrth_rb
08-13-2009, 11:24 AM
Come Together is strongly considered because of various mentions the last few days ... however, it may be because it's in the first batch of DLC, so we're hesitant to confirm it until we've gotten a specific on-disc statement.
Don't Let Me Down and One After 909 were the other two songs performed at the rooftop concert historically. The announcement of Dig a Pony (an odd choice otherwise) seems to indicate that they're going to replicate the concert in the game.

Remember, I'm in Australia. It's already 1.35am on Friday morning. I generally update it just after midnight my time.

Honestly, I think the most likely candidate is the intro chatter/tuning to the two videos. I don't think it's anything on the page itself; might be something in a video background my eyes can't really discern.
frankieman
08-13-2009, 03:18 PM
I think you're right chrth_rb, it is George who says 'give it a try' and then some little guitar stuff so I guess it's the intro chatter to either WMGGW or Something, since I guess I can reconise the sound of the guitar a bit.

If the number of songs per venue is split 5-5-5-5-20-5, then here's what we're missing:
Cavern: 2 Please Please Me, She Loves You, From Me to You?
Ed Sullivan: 1 All My Loving. It MUST be in there.
Shea: 1 Lack of Paul. I've Just Seen a Face, I'm Down?
Budokan: 1 Rain, She Said, She Said, Got to Get You Into My Life, Maybe something Revolver-ish from Rubber Soul?
Dreamscapes: 5 Something Psychedelic. (NOT ABBEY ROAD!)
Rooftop: 0

I really don't understand why somemany people are complaining, sure I'm suprised Hey Jude isn't in it and I'm sad Rain isn't but come on it's a great setlist. There are some strange choices when it comes to song selections from albums, but they can't fit in all of them.
They were going for fun to play and within that the looked at dividing the songs between the members as well as they could and also getting some well known songs in it.

Oh I am still excited. I think it's a superb set list ... But with so many Beatles classics out there, it was obvious all of us were gonna think of a handful of songs they should have included, satisfied though we are now (well, at least I am) with the set-list that has been leaked.

At points like this I really feel sorry for people who work at places like HMX, because people can be so into your game, they're always gonna be dissapointed because there's a song they really like missing. I'm a bit dissapointed too for some songs but I see where HMX is going with the game and this list fits in perfectly, fun to play, doing right to all four members and trying to make everybody happy. And in the end after people've calmed down a bit everybody will be happy, I'm sure.

Great, now it looks like the remaining weeks on this forum will be spent complaining about the setlist.
I don't know if I feel like being on here to see all of that. I think the setlist is fantastic, and HMX has done a great job.
So, I think I might have to take a break from coming on here.

Yeah.....I think I'm pretty much outta here now because I found a resource where I could get a lot of info on the game before it comes out, and now I've got it. I think at this point it will start to go downhill here; people will start complaining about what's not in there that they feel should be, the amount of negative posts will increase, etc. And to be honest my blood pressure can't put up with reading people trashing ANYTHING that has to do with The Beatles lol.
So with that, I think I'm done here. It was nice seeing a lot of people who are as excited for this game as I am, and I know that most of us will love this game like no other. Here's to hoping we get a steady stream of DLC and get this song list well over the 100-mark. Because I plan on playing this game for a very, very long time. Take care everybody.

I'm still excited, and I'm still gonna buy the game, but WHY IN THE **** would I Want You be picked ahead of. . . well, anything from the entire second half of their career, especially Hey Jude, easily their most popular single.
They better be on the ball about releasing DLC, featuring a setlist with this many obvious weaknesses.

Hey Jude did not belong on the game. It's a piano-based song with horn orchestration and limited guitar. I am not at all surprised they didn't pick it.
Comparing it to the setlist I made, I got Boys when many doubted it. I'm very glad that some songs I didn't pick made it, like Good Morning Good Morning, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, I Want You (She's So Heavy), and I Me Mine. However, I'm surprised by I Want You (She's So Heavy), along with If I Needed Someone. I thought they would've saved the former for DLC, but it looks like they took the entire A-side of Abbey Road except Maxwell's Silver Hammer (which doesn't exactly sound fun to play) and Oh! Darling (one of my personal favorite songs). I'm really surprised by If I Needed Someone. Sure, it's both a Rubber Soul track and a George song, but I would've far rathered something from the early albums, which seem extremely underrepresented.
Song 45 is either going to be One After 909 to complete the canonical Rooftop set, Let It Be for it's name and awesome guitar solo, or a track for Shea to help represent the early stuff (Help! ?).

In regards to the secret last song on the set list, I have been wondering, in the back of my head, for the past several months, whether their unreleased version of Now and Then (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Now_and_Then_%28song%29) might debut on 09/09/09.
Wouldn't it be awesome if it debuted on The Beatles: Rock Band?!?
Wishful thinking I'm sure. However, Free as a Bird is a definite possibility.

What about "Carnival of Light"? Early this year McCartney said that the song was likely gonna be released this year, that it was time.
It's very avant-garde, though ... not in the deeply melodic way "I Am the Walrus" is avant-garde, but more along the lines of "Revolution 9."

5 FROM ABBEY ROAD???
Personally, I want the secret to be All My Loving or Rain.
MidniteVulture83
08-13-2009, 06:55 PM
But the secret has to be a super iconic song. "All My Loving" is great, and so is "Rain" (I am still weeping gently over its non-inclusion in the game!), but neither song is immensely iconic--at least enough to be kept under wraps until God knows when ...
So the list of possible candidates for the coveted spot would be, in my view:
* A super awesome unreleased track.
* "Hey Jude" (most iconic Beatles song ever)
* "Let It Be" (most covered Beatles song ever)
* "A Day in the Life" (popular with fans and perhaps one of the best, if not the best, song ever made, according to most critics)
* "Help!" (inexplicably absent from the final set-list, a fan favorite, a classic, and yes, very iconic too!)
EDIT: Sorry, "Yesterday" is the most covered Beatles song ever. But "Let It Be" has got to be a close second. If someone knows, please correct me.

If All My Loving was in, it would probably be at the Ed Sullivan Show like its counterpart I Wanna Be Your Man. And since Ed Sullivan has 4 songs confirmed already, that's out.
Rain was confirmed as not being in the game by Game Informer's second opinion review.
Sadly, both of those are not it. But we can definitely hope for another great song!

I really think "The End" should be a candidate. If Game Informer said "one little surprise to save for your playthrough", it sounds like it's a great moment in the story, or the "end" of the game. What's more fitting than "The End"?

"The End" would be cool ... but ... I try to see this from the POV of the Game Informer. If they're withholding this one song, it means that it's probably incredibly popular or iconic. I can think only of the ones I mentioned. "The End" is great, and will be fun to play, but many people don't know it.

Yeah I think the final song has a high chance of being one of these, and maybe another one or two songs, or something really beautiful that's never been released. I think Help! is less likely only because I think they will want something more peaceful and beautiful and slow sort of thing rather than an upbeat song.

I think I should add that song to the list of candidates. Come to think of it, HMX included "Within You Without You / Tomorrow Never Knows" from the Love album. Therefore "Free As a Bird" shouldn't be seen as a long shot by any measure ...
But if I had to pick one, I think it will be "Hey Jude." All the instruments needed for the game are there. All HMX would have to do (and probably already did!) is to lower the volume of the piano a little bit. That's it.
Plus, what better way to finish the playthrough than with a glorious coda of instruments and a litany of na-na-nas!??!?

If it's some random song, it has to be at Shea, Budokan or the roof. If it's the final song which the article doesn't explicitly say it is, it's known to be the roof. Possible rooftops are:
"Two of Us" - nice, but nah
"Across the Universe" - maybe, at least more instruments involved
"Dig It" - ha!
"Let It Be" - sooo much solo piano
"Maggie Mae" - ha!
"One After 909" - maaaaaaybe
"The Long and Winding Road" - piano-heavy again
"For You Blue" - nah, cuz of I Me Mine
"Old Brown Shoe" - nah, cuz of I Me Mine
"The Ballad of John and Yoko" - nah
"You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)" - ha!

08-13-2009, 07:49 PM
If you haven't noticed, because Sgt. Pepper/With a Little Help from my Friends count as two, so they have 21 dreamscapes already. I expect something early, like Yesterday, or Hey Jude, or a dreamscape, like It's All Too Much

20 dreamscape tracks (21 songs), all full.
Slyght
08-13-2009, 07:56 PM
I don't think there's a clear venue the final song must go into. I had initially assumed we would see 5 in each live venue and 20 dreamscapes. I don't think we'll see an additional song in the Cavern or Ed Sullivan as G4TV's screenshots showed them only having 4 songs, the reveal of "Boys" fills out all 8 of those songs, and I doubt there's hidden encores. I also have doubts we'll see additional songs at Shea or Budoken given they're already probably at 5 each (I'm assuming each chapter has 4-5 songs each, and the studio years will be broken into 4-5 chapters). So that leaves three possibilities for me:
1) Yet another dreamscape in the studio era - This could really be anything from that time. Edit - As people have pointed out, if we are to assume there are only 20 dreamscapes, then we're full. This is of course counting the Sgt Pepper/With A Little Help combo a single dreamscape, so it's possible that there is an additional combo(s)
2) "One After 909" - Assuming "Don't Let Me Down" is on the Rooftop, the only song missing from that setlist is this song. Of course, we already know that they are not creating 100% historically accurate setlists for other venues
3) An encore to the entire game - As many people have already suggested, there could be one last song played as an encore to the entire game. "Free As A Bird" is a potential candidate, but in all honesty *any* iconic Beatles song could be an encore to the game.
So I guess my conclusion is: it could be anything! :)

Dammit, I do a weak thing like go to sleep for a few hours and they go and announce almost the entire setlist on me!
Sure, it's not my perfect setlist but I'm more than happy with it (no A Day In The Life, Rain, One After 909, HIAWG etc.), but I'm confident we will see all of those at some point. Really happy at the inclusion of Hello Goodbye and I Want You (She's So Heavy) in the final setlist, though.
At least the mysterious final song will keep us on tenterhooks for a little while. What is interesting, though, is that there seems to be already 20 dreamscape songs covered. I would have thought that the two songs iconic enough to carry such a billing would be Hey Jude and Let It Be, which are dreamscape material if I've ever seen it (and from the right era to boot).
Let the speculation...continue!

However, One After 909 or Free as a Bird are also very possible...it's hard to exactly figure out what song will be last.

If the final, unknown song was Hey Jude, and it's played on the roof top, and people are out in the streets below singing along (or at least, it could look like they're singing along). That'd be an awesome ending to the game, and it would be an amazing sight in the video game.

Possible, but there is already 5 songs that are going to be presumably played on the Rooftop. Plus, I think HMX would have missed out a great opportunity to do a beautiful dreamscape for a beautiful song by playing it on the Rooftop. Who knows though? I guess only time will tell.
I'm really struggling to find a gap where it could go. I thought at first maybe Budokan or Shea, but there are 10 songs in that period (I'm Looking Through You and Drive My Car or If I Needed Someone to Shea, the other to Budokan gives 5 to each venue). Both Ed Sullivan and Cavern Club are full, but unless the 25 live/20 dreamscape split was a fallacy, it must be a live-era song.

I actually have a hunch that it could be One After 909. Why?
- It is the only song played in the Rooftop Concert that has yet to be announced. If they are going to have 4 of the 5, surely they may as well go the whole hog.
- It is the only song that really spans the length of their career. Remember, One After 909 was getting demoed and practiced as one of their earliest songs (before even Please Please Me). How awesome would it be if the performance of One After 909, started on the Rooftop, but morphed into scenes of the Cavern Club, Ed Sullivan, Shea, Budokan, Abbey Road and finishing again on the Rooftop. It wouldn't be a dreamscape per se, and it would still technically be on the rooftop and hence a 'live' performance.
The downside is that for all my fanboy boosting of the song, it isn't 'epic'. There would be a lot of 'WTF!'s' and 'lolwut?'s'. I guess we can only wait (and speculate) until we know. Who knows, we might not knwo this one until the last possible moment, especially if it is the final song in the game.

I was thinking that One after 909 was a possibility, especially with the other 4 from the concert on disc. There's no confirmation that I Me Mine is even on the rooftop; they could easily (further) smudge the timeline by making I Me Mine the last dreamscape before the rooftop concert.

Wow, this is a lot to catch up on. Really weird choices. My biggest disappointment is that the albums with announced DLC are all over-represented. I think this might actually be a savvy move for hmx: Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper's are their two most popular albums, and they needed to be well-represented on-disc for everyone who doesn't know what a DLC is. If you accept that as a given, then it makes sense to release them first; they can be finished quickly because they have the least new content. They can release these slowly, and buy themselves enough time to produce DLC for the underrepresented albums.
At least, that's my most optimistic theory ;)
It's odd that I was right about Help!, but my equality theory turned out to be way off; 17 John to 12 Paul!? Wow! I hope that means the last tune goes to Macca. My vote goes to "Hey Jude".

Hey, um, what's up with the list that is supposedly in Game Informer? Is that official, or is that just messing with our minds? Can you tell us?
Since they proved that they have the game, it's pretty much official. Unless you're one of the people who get very picky of what's official or not.

It could also mean that the later albums were just easier to work with.
Yes, they had the means to deconstruct the earlier works into tracks suitable for the game, but the articles released so far speak to how difficult this process was.
So we get a smattering of the earlier works because the shareholders weren't interested unless the game spanned the complete lifecycle of the band, but we are heavy on the later stuff because that's the stuff that didn't require months of painstaking reconstruction to deliver.
If this theory is correct, it doesn't bode well for full album DLC of the earlier works. Doesn't preclude it, of course.

It could also mean that the later albums were just easier to work with.

It also could mean that they wanted to see how well the game/DLC sold before committing themselves to "harder" tracks. But I honestly think it's more of a case of trying to find songs that appeal to the most people nowadays. While I did a "Huh?" at Help! only having 1 track, With the Beatles and Beatles for Sale didn't surprise me a whit.
I think in any case: if the DLC sells well, they'll continue to make DLC

You know what I think would be awesome? (of course you don't. Yet.)
If the final, unknown song was Hey Jude, and it's played on the roof top, and people are out in the streets below singing along (or at least, it could look like they're singing along). That'd be an awesome ending to the game, and it would be an amazing sight in the video game.
Edit: See this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orukqxeWmM0).
I'm upset that a lot of them didn't appear to know the words.

I don't disagree, this is another possible interpretation.
Though the main revenue source are the disc sales, DLC is just icing on the cake. It comes down to the production costs. How much actual time is spent deconstructing? Does that have to be Giles Martin? What's his hourly rate :) ? What's his availability?
The path of least resistance is the later tracks, that don't require such intensive pre-processing.

I was looking to see if Toys R Us had any deal on The Beatles game and came upon "The Beatles: Rock Band Special Value Edition" for the PS3, Xbox360, and Wii. All are $159.99.
The description reads "Rock Band™ Special Value Edition includes a Rock Band Guitar, Rock Band Drum Kit, Microphone, USB Hub, Guitar Strap and The Beatles™: Rock Band ™: software.
Here is a link to the PS3 version. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3739339 The box seems to look Rock Band 1-ish. I wonder if you get Rock Band 1 instruments or Rock Band 2 instruments?
Huh. Whatever it is, it's $20 cheaper at Best Buy than TRU and Amazon.
Don't like the mix of Rock Band art/logos with Beatles. They're separate platforms, right?

It might be a simple supply chain issue; if early tracks plug into venues, and late-era get their own dreamscapes, then they might be roughly comparable, labor-wise. If Giles delivers most of the dreamscape material first, hmx can work on it while Giles does the early stuff, which won't take as long to plug in.
But this is pretty wild speculation. We'd have to know a lot more about hmx's inner workings to know how long it takes for each element.
What I'm getting at is I hope the difficulty of separating the tracks doesn't mean we won't get much more early DLC, because most of my dissatisfaction with the set list is in that period.

Looked up "Dalek Capital Management", home of "Joe Spiegel", the "analyst" who badmouthed TB:RB - http://is.gd/2g2K8 - WTF?
"Dalek Capital Management" is an alternate name for "Elastex, Inc.", a medical equipment wholesaler. Neither company has a web site.

I'm just wondering if it's something gloriously epic though, and maybe I don't want to know what it is. I mean I'd like to know what the song is, but perhaps I don't want to know the context of its inclusion in the game. I mean, why would Game Informer leave out ONE song? Something like Hey Jude seems to make sense since it's that epic "sing along" song at the end and probably has a great dreamscape, but at the same time they've said there are 20 dreamscape songs, and we've got 20 listed. So that can't be it, can it? And if it were a song like Help!, A Day in the Life, or something like that, why not just list it?
I'm not saying I don't want to know what it is, but I feel like there must be a good reason they're not spoiling it.

This is part of a blog post I made a little while ago with five "dark horse" candidates for the game, by which I mean songs that aren't as likely to make it on-disc, but I desperately wish they would:
-Nowhere Man: With its wonderful harmonies and excellent guitar and bass tracks, this is a favorite of mine, and its absence in the game would be a damn shame. I think it has a very good shot of making the cut.
-Lady Madonna: Another favorite, and one of the band's best singles. If it's not on the disc, it definitely needs to be released as DLC.
-It's All Too Much: One of George's contributions to the Yellow Submarine soundtrack, this is one of the Beatles' best songs, and criminally overlooked. It has great tracks for all four players, and it's just so damn awesome in general that it must be in the game, one way or another. I hereby pledge to kick a puppy and punch a baby every day until it is announced.
-What You're Doing: This is one of my favorites from the early albums. It's a very catchy song, and again, it has fun parts for all four players, which is important for the purposes of the game.
-Happiness is a Warm Gun: John's satirical track from the White Album is a rocking good time, and would be plenty of fun for all four players. It's a perfect fit for the game.
Not a damn one made it in! At least we already know Nowhere Man is coming with the Rubber Soul Album in a couple of months, but I definitely feel the pain of 0 for 5.

Thanks, I couldn't remember the code. Figured black matched well enough that it wouldn't be accidentally read by anyone who didn't want to.
More inviso-text: I made the logical assumption that it would be the medley instead of just The End by itself, simply because The End is so short on its own. If this is an encore performance, or something that we play as the credits roll, it would need to be significantly longer than The End is on its own.

It can't be "The End" because it would ruin being able to play the medley when the Abbey Road album DLC drops (since we're supposedly going to be able to play the medley as one song when we get it).

I would have to agree with this, and it won't be the medley, as that would really destroy the Abbey Road DLC release. There's a lot of Abbey Road on disc already, and adding the medley in there would remove most of the second side of the LP, thus leaving a handful of songs left for DLC.
No, I think it's going to be something different.

Yeah. They're giving creative names to these trophies. Sometimes the title of a trophy is a nod or reference to a Beatles song, but the trophy itself is not necessarily obtained by playing that particular song.
"The Love You Make" could well be earned by playing [enter here iconic Beatles song that is about love but ISN'T "All You Need Is Love"].

OK, added in the setlist and renamed "Overdrive" to "Beatlesmania".
Does anyone know what Rock Band 2... heck, all other full band Rhythm Games were rated. I would like to know how it compares to the 8.75 ranking of The Bealtes: Rock Band.

Wow... not very highly rated. On par with Metallica with all the extras like a true story mode? Wonder what the other raters will rank the game at.

I was just thinking that when I read it too. I guess though, band specific titles don't cater to everyone's tastes. I just presumed they'd have taken into account the addition of 3 part harmony and how amazing the game looks.

I don't know the last song. I'm staying out of the TB:RB subforum until 09.09.09. It'll be a surprise for me.

I am thinking that most reviews we will read in the near future will actually reflect the reviewers' love for the Beatles, as opposed to their love for the game itself. Of course, I say, Why not take BOTH into account? That way we'd see 10s and A's all over the place.
Has anyone tried the Metacritic site? Some of you probably know what it is, but for those who don't: it's a site that takes the scores (for games, CDs, movies, etc.) given by major publications and then gives you an average score for said games, CDs, movies, etc. It's very accurate. Games that get an average score of 92, for example (RB 1 got that score, btw), are considered "universally acclaimed." That's the only reliable review site, I think, because it takes every major publication into consideration. I am wondering what grade TB: RB will get there ... hopefully somewhere between 90-100 ... It will be interesting to see if it can get a score higher than either RB.

Weird. I thought that had been well known. I had seen it in the gameplay videos that when 'overdrive' was launched BEATLEMANIA would pop up on the screen (in the upper left, near the singing track).
I guess I should have taken the risk and said something...

Yea, I use metacritic for my main review source.
HMX's games have never dipped below 90 (except for GH: Encore, but can you count that? No. Ah.. I don't really count RB:U either.)
Guitar Hero 1 91
Guitar Hero 2 92
Rock Band 1 92
Rock Band 2 92
If anything, Beatles: RB should maintain that streak of 90+. Unfortunately, with it's single band mentality, I don't think all reviewers will be kind to it.
Neversoft on the other hand:
Guitar Hero 3 85
Guitar Hero WT 85
Guitar Hero A 70
Guitar Hero M 84
Guitar Hero SH 71
Never above 90. Or even 85..
GO HMX!!

I use Gamespot just because in my opinion, they are very harsh.
Here's an Aug. 14 preview.

So I've got a question:
For anyone who has actually played through GH: Metallica and given it an honest chance, how does all this Beatles:RB photos/unlockables stuff sound in comparison? Because I had read that GH:M had been good about that kind of stuff.

Funny part: You count all the GH NS Spin-offs, yet don't count 80's Under HMX. Lol, wat.
Back to TB:RB: The setlist itself looks really good, and this is one of the few rhythm games that have had my mom and dad interested in, and It's finally a game I can full game Five-Star/Gold Star on drums? (I hope? Only time will tell) Speaking of which: What will be the more challening songs in this game on drums? I'm curious to know.
