there are tons of posts i know, but rather than this get lost 12 pages deep in a "my guitar dont work" thread that isnt the same problem.. here ya go.
for those that have a bad strumbar where its not registering strumming at all (or intermittantly) this thread isnt for you, that seems to be something with the little metal contacts that make a connection when strummed.
for those with a strumbar that doesnt get back to neutral position quick enough, destroying your note streak and multiplier in those fast, long passages, this fix is for you.
anyway onto the fix.
what you'll need:
rubber bands, the smallest ones you can find, and fairly thin. the rubber bands you would use for braces would work great, otherwise you'll have to make your own buy tieing off one end of a larger rubber band in a knot, to form a smaller loop. remember you want it to be about 1/8" in diameter.
screwdriver (phillips head) to take apart your guitar (or drill, its quicker, just dont strip out the threads when you put it back together, its plastic so its easy to do)
how you do it:

take your guitar back plate off and locate the strumbar and the tabs indicated by the picture. take one of your two rubber bands and loop it over the tabs as shown. then, do the other side..
take note of location #3, these little foam pads are the source of our problem. the foam either needs to be replaced by something else altogether, or maybe just a denser piece of foam so that it forces the strumbar back to neutral quicker.
now put your guitar back together, and shred until your replacement comes in ;)
i have a replacement on the way, so im hesitant to do any major modding that could throw up a flag at EA and void my warranty. so this is the best i can do at the moment.

I also have a replacment coming but its not going to help as it will be exactly the same and break after a few hours. I wonder what EA are going to do about this problem in the long term?

Will this fix the double strum problem most of us are having?

I just fixed my guitar, and am wondering the same thing....
Is EA correcting the problem, or just sending a guitar with the same parts.
If its the same parts, I might as well just keep the one I have.
...Yes this fixes the double strumming thing.

Well I have a perfect guitar after 2 and a half days, so maybe you'll get a lucky one.

I have two guitars. One still works perfectly. The other one won't return to neutral fast enough. It was like this right out of the box. Going to try this fix tomorrow. Thanx a ton!

I used rubber bands, but tied them off at different parts of the case so i had to completely remove both foam pads. freakin guitar works better than the les paul for me now. 100% slient strumming. if you consider doing it this way dont worry too much about taking the pads off. they can go back on pretty easily.

Thanks alot for posting this. I just tried this fix tonight, and it worked great for me. I just bought some rubberbands from Wal Marts Health and Beauty section. The spot for the urban hair products. They are just about the right size. I did my fix a little different though. Instead of looping the rubberband around the tab on the strum bar, to the same tab on that side of the body, i looped around the opposite side. It gives it more resistance, and it feels awesome. No more skipping down 3 tracks when I strum down to view the set list.
