does RMA # = Ref #?

When I submitted my RMA, I forgot to copy down the RMA number, however on the "questions" section of the EA support page, I could see the ref number...will that work when confirming my purchase? I'm kinda getting pissed about this, especially when EA said there was a confirmation in my inbox that supposedly had my RMA number in it, which it didn't
