View Full Version : [PS3] Game Data Utility - No actual RB2 data

Okay, I did a search, and I don't think this question has been asked or addressed yet, at least not specifically:
It's important that you understand that I own Rock Band 1, and have kept not only my game save data from that game (the small file containing my bands, rockers, etc.), but my game utility data (the large file associated with software updates), as well. Now, upon my creation of a new band and rockers in Rock Band 2, I would have thought that the hard disk would have created a new saved data file in the "Saved Data Utility" folder in the Home menu and a new game data file in the "Game Data Utility" folder in the Home menu. However, I've only recently noticed that while a saved data file was created, I actually have no game data file whatsoever located in the Game Data Utility folder. Is this normal? Like, is the Rock Band 1 game data file in the Game Data Utility folder supposed to apply itself to both Rock Band games? Or am I missing something here?
Also, twice thus far the game has had to "[Load] Additional Content ..." at the main menu screen of Rock Band 2. It never did this before during all the other times I've booted up the game, so I was wondering if some kind of "passive" update for the game had occurred recently, because to my knowledge, I have not been outright prompted to update the Rock Band 2 game software. Again, is this normal? Do others among you ever have to wait a few seconds at the title screen/band selection screen while the game tells you that it's "Loading Additional Content ..."?
Thanks in advance.

My question still stands. If it would be possible for even a handful of PS3 owners, who have carried over the data they had from their Rock Band 1 saves, to spare a moment or two to check the files located in the "Game Data Utility" and "Saved Data Utility" folders of the Home menu and see what Rock Band-related files are present, whether they be files applicable to the first game or its sequel ... Thanks!:)

That's normal. The Game Data file is the one that contains all of your DLC. Since DLC is shared between RB1 and RB2, you should only have the one big Game Data file in the RB1 folder.
RB2 will create a new Save Game file because it needs to save all your new characters/bands/scores/etc. there.

I have two seperate game data files, one for RB, on for RB2. I beleive my older DLC, as well as the disc exports, are in the RB1 file. It's about 9 gigs, while the RB2 fle is 3 gigs (which obviously doesn't contain all my songs).
I do wish someone would confirm what each of these files contains.

I can't really speak for whether or not there are supposed to be two game data files, but I'd could venture a guess that it might depend on where you buy your DLC. If you buy it all in the PSN store under Rock Band 1, it might throw it all in Rock Band 1's file. If you buy it under Rock Band 2, it might throw it all into a RB2 data file. If you buy using the in-game store through either game, it might throw it into that game's data file.
As far as the "Loading additional content" bar, that appears whenever you've added more DLC to your collection than what you had the last time you played (at least on the 360) and I'd assume it's the same on the PS3.

I have a PS3 & noticed in the game data utility there is Rockband 1 and Rockband 2. RB 1 has 3670mb & RB2 has 9924kb. Just downloaded some songs and noticed at least one of them went into the RB 1 spot. So i would assume that is where all of the dlc go, not sure what goes into rb2 unless that was for the export of songs from rb1. Just wanted to let you know what is on my ps3.
