It certainly requires a special touch with the drums. I can keep pretty solid 4x streaks going now, so i'm not concerned.

My problem is that the timing seems to be half a second off. Me and three others have all played my drums and all have the same problem. It seems to happen when there are multiple notes in a row. We'll hit the pad to what we think is on time but we miss. I doubt all 4 of us have a terrible sense of timing since we can figure out how to play guitar quite well. Anyone else have this problem? Even on easy mode we average in the 80% range, often lower b/c the notes just don't register on time. The screen does show we're at least hitting them since the button gets pressed down.

*sigh* I want drums to be fun! When it drags the band down though ... it's not so much.

Yes, I have DLP front projection, did a calibration, and now when I am playing it sounds perfectly synchronized to the song, but still I miss one out of every 10 or so notes.

What's weird too is that as soon as a drum fill comes, all of a sudden it's completely out of synch and makes it incredibly difficult to adjust, and then adjust back when the fill is over.

After endless hours of playing Guitar Hero 3, not ONCE did I ever feel like I experienced an "unforced error" or error in timing or hardware. When I miss notes I can tell it's MY fault. But since getting Rock Band three days ago, I feel like I've lost THOUSANDS of notes due to hardware/timing failure. It's very frustrating and takes away immensely from the enjoyment of the game.

I fixed my pad last night. Turned out the pad wasn't plugged into the tray securely. If you take off the pad (push the rubber "bulbs" through the holes from the underside while pulling up on the pad) you will see a plug at the end of a wire coming from the pad and a jack in the middle of the tray.

Make sure that plug is snuggly plugged into the jack and re-seat the drum. Worked like a charm for me.
