Out of these 3 games, which 2 do you think I should pick up. I can only afford 2 so please son't say, "Why don't you get them all?"

Mirror's Edge

BioShock

Resistance 2

Also Fallout 3 isn't on this list because I need something to do over the holidays. :p

Halo 2 and 3 were generic Halo wannabes

both weren't as close to as good at the first

Agreed. There is no question Resistance FoM was Sony's "Halo" for the PS3, but it was a damn good game, and the weapons were infinitely more fun to play around with than anything found in Halo. That game had some of the most inventive FPS weapons since the 1st Perfect Dark. Resistance 2 looks great, and the online is going to be absolute pandemonium with 8 player co-op and 64 player death matches. If you're looking for a game to stretch beyond the campaign, I say pick up Resistance and save Bioshock for the holidays. Bioshock is a great game, and everyone should be able to experience it, but the replayability just isn't there (unless you HAVE to beat a game on the harder difficulties). Dead Space should be on your list as well, BTW...

halo 1's single player is by far the best, but the gameplay became perfectly refined, and the multiplayer is the best in Halo 3. also forge owns. if dropping tanks on your friends is wrong i donr want to be right. simply put, no FPS had the visceral felling that halo has. even people at IW and Cliffy B himself admitted this. and resistance suffered to me because of the dualshock controller design. 360 has the best controller for shooters far and away. the triggers on the PS3 are too slippery.

I loved the mirrors edge demo, but my thought of a purchase is waiting on reviews on whether it has replayability. i tend to not buy games that have limited replayability unless im REALLLLLY looking forward to it or i pick it up months down the road dirt cheap.

Resistance 2 is a must buy if your interested in it. I personally probably WONT get it because im not the biggest fps fan and have too many other games to play (hell RB1 lasted me 11 months. now with RB2 and throwing Littlebigplanet into the mix im set until the PS5...) but i do see that its an incredible game with HUGE multiplayer aspects. I mean 2 separate campaigns and a separate 8 person co-op. not to mention 60 person multiplayer. it looks huge.

As for Bioshock. I got a chance to play a bit of the 360 version last year at a friends house and it was a blast and i definitely need to rent it now that its on the ps3 so i can finish it.

i dont think i could ever list any game thats come out in the last 5 years my favroiteoff all time, let alone 1 year. (but if i HAD to, MAYBE GH2) I dont even have a favorite game. I cant decide between the norms on "best game ever" lists. Ocarina of Time, FFVII, Chrono Trigger, Almost Any Mario between 1990 and 1996, Super Metroid, Any genesis Sonic...

I'm personally buying R2 and renting Bioshock and Mirror's Edge. But if you're definitely buying two, then I'd say Resistance and Mirror's Edge. Mainly because Bioshock doesn't have multiplayer and the other two do.

Somebody's either a 360 owner or hasn't played the R2 beta...or even R:FoM for that matter. It amazes me how many FPS's now a days are "Halo-wanna-be's". Like Halo was the first ever FPS in the history of gaming. What if Halo was a Goldeneye wanna-be, or a Counterstrike wanna-be? Halo has it's own story and style of play. Just like R2 has it's own story and style of play. And if you think otherwise, then you obviously haven't played both, so keep your opinions to yourself.

Wow though choice, all of them are great games, I played the Mirror's Edge demo and was very impresed, R2 has already gotten excellent reviews and Bioshock was game of the year (2007) no less. So any one of those should please immensely.

Only dowside for Bioshock is that it's a short game, I seem to remember last year 360 owners mentioning that it was about 8hours long.

halo was the first FPS to not feel awkward as ballsack on a console, so all console FPS shud be compared to it. Resistance doesn't measure up in a couple ways.
i have a PS3 and played resistance, and found a game with cool story, but sloppy controls. again this probably comes from my extreme dislike of the PS3's controller for shooters. For Fighting games and Tony Hawk games its the best, but it just doesn't fare well for shooters. you will find very few people who claim resistance is better than any of the Halo games. there's a reason games a labeled "halo killers"

You can't spell Halo without "Overhyped shooter sequels that really aren't as good as everyone thinks". Well, actually you can, but it wouldn't be right. I think Resistance sucked too, so I'm not going to be partisan.

To the OP:

Mirror's Edge and Bioshock!

just so i can gauage your opinions, what are what you consider good shooters? i know its easy to hate halo because its as ubiquitous as freakin mario or mickey mouse now.

I played the Mirror's Edge demo last night and thought it was really awesome. Looks like it will be a dynamite game.

Haven't played Resistance 2, and I have played Bioshock (which was aweesome) so I had to vote for option 3.

I know this question wasn't for me but, I can tell you that I don't hate Halo, in fact I never played any of the Halo games, but I also don't think that Resistence was a bad game, I actually enjoyed it a lot, and I'm very much looking forward to R2.

Maybe it's the fact the you gotten to accustomed to the game mechanics of Halo that you think that no other measures up. I know that it happened to me with Raibow Six Vegas and CoD4, I was very accustomed to cover tactics of RSV and had a hard time getting used to the more straight forward gameplay of CoD4, both are great, they are just different.

Of course this is just my opinion.

Call of Duty 4 was exceptional as a whole. A well rounded experience that introduced RPG like elements to a genre that typically doesn't have ANY.

My favorite PS2 era shooters were SOCOM 1 and 2. I enjoy more tactical games that are grounded in reality. But what defines a shooter? I thought Resident Evil 4 was great. Is Fallout 3 a shooter? Cause if so, that's amazing too.

only if you consider mass effect a shooter. i liked the gameplay of COD4 but i hate the strategy, all it was was an arms race. thats what i like about Halo 3. anybody can kill anybody with anything if they are skilled enough.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys! The majority towards Mirror's Edge and BioShock is overwhelming so I guess I'll be getting R2 for Christmas. (hopefully) :p
