*robot voice* Your jacket is now dry!
As much as I dig cruising around on Pitbull hoverboards, I had to go with Blade Runner. Not that I want to literally live in that world, but I love watching it on the big screen.
And technically *nerd alert*... Star Wars takes place in the past, so that's automatically disqualified.

I was gonna say the same thing. Remember the opening crawl? "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

the public transportation in Blade Runner wouldn't be too bad, but yeah, if there's a remote chance that I'll run into Rutger Hauer or Darryl Hannah, count me out. But then again, there's also the chance of running into Sean Young....nah, still not worth it.

But since that future (or past) has Jedis, it immediatly Undisqualifies it!

Yeah, on the one hand - robot booty. But on the other - robots crushing your skull with boots. Not a whole lot of sun going on either, but if you love noodle vendors you'll be in heaven.
The biggest drawback to Back to the Future's future is that there's always the possibility that some old coot will go back in time and change it all on you. Then again, I wouldn't mind seeing Jaws 23.
I'm so conflicted! It's like having computerized avatars of the Ayatollah and Reagan in your head arguing over lunch choices.

Back to the Future is the best time-traveling movie.
Hands down.
Can't wait to go to Cafe 80's in 2015, and get a hoverboard.
Minority Report's transportation system. Sure there can be computer errors, but it's probably the safest and most logical systems there are. As well as the most communist/controlling, which is why it'll never get done.

On the upside, they might be able to deliver that flying car (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/3366415/Flying-car-based-on-Ferrari-could-be-reality-within-two-years.html) after all... :D

I remember hearing a rumor back in the day that some company did make hoverboards, but they were way too dangerous to be sold to the public.
I'm not sure if that is true or not, but I remember hearing about it back when BttF2 came out.

Kramer: Because they're terrified of her. I heard from someone that when they cut one of her lines, she climbed up the rope on side of the stage and started dropping lights on peoples heads. Story like that has got to be true.
I can buy that.
Considering the amount of training for airplanes as opposed to a car. Would we really want little Asian ladies in the air? If they crash, it's hitting somebody's house, not just ruining their car.
Rock Band player: I'm almost there! I almost have Visions FCed!

Yeah , every kid in school said that. And you always had that one kid who has a rich friend that has one , and they cost $50,000. Good times.

All's ya gotta do is put on some thin, flowy fabric and go to any given indoor shopping mall built in the 70s. Though it helps if you glue a little crystal on the palm of your hand too.
Wait... you're crystal's flashing, Nick! Renew! Renew!!! *runs off to Carousel*

I remember this too. My local Fox affiliate was running pieces about it. I don't think it really added up to much, but your comment definitely jogged a memory.

Found a link (http://www.paleofuture.com/2007/03/hoverboards-are-real-1989.html)with the hoverboard info - Robert Zemeckis was the cause of it all, stating that they had used "real" hoverboards in the film.
I had almost totally forgotten about this - thanks for dredging it up, Dave!

whatever, i still consider it in the future. I've never heard of ancient light-saber technology. I just added it to the poll so i wouldn't be criticized for not including it.
Also, nice find on that hoverboard article. I'm still waiting for them to come out...hopefully ours will be able to go over water.

I had to vote with Blade Runner on this one. While the BttF 'future' looked like fun it just seemed too plastic for me. I loved the gritty setting of BR.
