View Full Version : Uh, singing? I don't know about that

We all know most of us can't sing, and even if we try we'll probably sing off key like a beeyotch (at least I know I will) Besides, I'm not sure I feel too comfortable with my friends hearing me sing... I'd feel weird... I never sing out loud, and my parents would think I worship the devil after getting this game.

I don't know why people look at singing as being embarrassing...
You could let someone else sing, or just let the original voice (I hope that's implemented) sing.

I think it's cool, I will be a cool party thing. I just don't get how they would implement such a thing, how do you get notes right?

I don't know, I'm just looking forward to my friends getting booed off stage...

It's definitely an awesome idea and if you're with friends and stuff, they're not going to care if you're not a good singer :P plus you could take it in turns or whatnot.

In regards to the measurement of the pitch and such on the voice, it shouldn't be too hard to implement, they have done it on the PS2, so there will be a way to do it on the next gen systems no problemos.

As long as there is a way to somehow keep the original voice level up a bit and control the volume of the player it should be fine.

Or maybe they could scrap the singer and employ a security guard. One player uses the G-con gun to shoot of an attacking zombie audience. The better the band plays the less zombies try to eat you.

Can't see why it wouldn't work... Singstar is a huge success at any party, with interest from various unexpected people it seems.

The real hero will obviously both be playing lead guitar and singing

I imagine it will work just like Kareoke Revolution.
After all, Karaoke Revolution Party combined singing and dancing; singing and guitar playing is a logical next step...

So many different voices are great in different ways. With guitar hero, you mash buttons and hit HO/PO's in the right orders to win.

I agree. And Maduin, voices are great in many different ways but in order for there to be a score-based singing game, you kinda have to overlook the whole "who are we to say what sounds good and what doesn't". I'm not sure how the scoring systems work in these game (I've never studied the karaoke game scoring) but I'm guessing it works with the basics: pitch, rythm, staying on tempo, etc. Hell, even when you go to asian-style karaoke places (like in Japan and Korea) they give you a fun little 0-100 score at the end. Can anyone give a detailed description of how the singing-scoring works in a game like Karaoke Revolution? (I've never played it).

HaiTek, you don't HAVE to sing (unless there's some mode that requires you to use all the instruments, would be pretty neat actually) but being amongst friends is the best time to sing! Just being able to go all out and have a blast, so much fun. Its almost more fun when the person can't sing, brings a lot of laughs to the room, haha. Just can't be too self-conscious and gotta let go!

In KR, it worked kinda like Amp/Freq mixed with GH. Basically, each bar of music was it's own separate section, as as you sung on pitch to the little bubbles, a score bar type thing would fill up. Depending on how high you filled it up in the bar, it would give you a rating from Bad-Great, and you'd get points/keep your streak accordingly. There were also little green glowing sections that worked kinda like star power and would give you a crowd boost if you got a good or great rating on that bar.

I can't say how they work in RB, but the vocals are a blast once you get over the hump of "oh my god I'm
singing" as it typically results in someone doing something ridiculous
on the vocals causing the others to start laughing so hard they cry and
become unable to play the instruments. It's totally awesome, really.

Well to the people who say well this game let sing and play it probably won't let you do to the fact how the hell could you look at guitar notes coming while you also have to be looking at the mic part. I mean you could probably try by plugging the mic and guitar and playing, but it would be really hard looking at two different parts on the screen.
I can't imagine there being like hardcore-ass lyrics when there's people like me that have soft voices XD It just doesn't happen like that man lol. All I know is that I'll try to avoid the singing parts as much as possible xD

I presume there'll be a little more leway given for the singing portion of RB in comparison to something like Karaoke Revolution.. just for the fact that when you're rocking out, you're rocking out.. hitting the exact pitch and timing probably shouldn't be as paramount as when belting out pop tunes.

At least, that's my quick impression on the matter

I can imitate a lot of voices pretty well while singing. I've also got a decent voice and am only embarressed when singing over Xbox LIVE due to the mic making your voice suck terribly.
