View Full Version : Deleted Band Names Gone Forever?

Here's the scenario. I'm on the 360 FWIW.

- I crated a band with a name I really liked.
- I realized I didn't like how I set the roster (wanted to add another member permanently).
- I deleted the band.
- I re-created the band.
- I get a message stating the band name is already taken on Live and in order to appear on the leaderboards, I must rename the band (which I did).

So I'm wondering... what happens to band names once the band is deleted? Can you never use them again? Will they become enabled again after being inactive for a certain time period? Or will there be an option down the road that allows you to free up the band name for yourself or someone else?

This happened to me the other day, and I called EA customer service. They guessed that I would need for the servers to 'refresh'.

The next day I logged in, and it did not give me the error message (It had given it to me everytime I logged that band the previous day). So, I 'think' I have my original band name.

So...I guess just wait and keep trying that band name.

is there a character limit of length of band names?

I think so. I saw one band on the leaderboards with a funny but exceptionally long name that had no spaces and abbreviated "Captain" to "Capt."

The limit is pretty long though... just don't expect to name you band similar to "…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead."

I can't remember the exact names, but I think you go to Options... Manage Data... Band Data... Delete Band.

Have the servers even refreshed once? This is an old, old post and I'm not sure the situation's changed since then.

I'd like to remake my band but I don't want to potentially lose the name because it's "taken" when it's really not...

Maybe this is related to all the phantom characters and bands showing up in our profiles, weeks after they were deleted?

Bands actually remain on the leaderboards, making it impossible to recover deleted bands/names.

Yikes. That kinda sucks.

On the other hand, it's pretty cool. Every band maintains their legacy, even if it is a stillborn legacy.

...blaargh. That's awful! So even if you make a band, never actually EARN any score to end up on the leaderboard, and break it up so you can remake it due to needing a new leader instrument or defragmenting your characters from other profiles into your main one... you lose the name forever?

C'mon. There's gotta be a better solution than that. Just throw in a warning screen that deleting your band will delete its standing on the leaderboards, and let them wipe the thing. This is just silly.

The issue here is that the vast majority of leaderboard operations are asynchronous and immediate feedback for UI sequences isn't there. (It appears that only Read access to leaderboard information is available synchronously.) If they did what you're suggesting, it would be more like "Pop a warning message up, then a progress bar, have the user wait 20 to 90 minutes, continue."

I just want the characters I no longer want associated with my account to go away. It's horrible that I have to keep these names. (Was joking around and registered Nathan Explosion and Squisgard to a band called Dreddklokk)

Heh heh, I could see that. Perhaps just a little "hidden" or "private" check for characters and bands.

I'm bumping this thread to bring up the question for RB2. If I deleted my band, would it be possible to remake the band with the same name (and use it online)? I'm on PS3 if that matters...

Yeah, I've got some that I just want gone as well. I was playing around to see what I could get past the censors. I don't want people looking at my profile to see Peen Ess and Sweaty Yambag.

I think this problem really needs to be addressed. Not only is it a major inconvenience for the player, but it's also a huge waste of space on the leaderboards server. At least give players the option to delete their band from the leaderboards if they choose. I hope someone from HMX sees this.

Sorry for bumping this again, but in RB2, if I was to change my band name from one name to another, would that original band name from which I changed it be considered "taken" and unusable afterwards?

Then could you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE (this is a longtime known issue) take the deleted bands off our rockband.com profiles!!!
I created then deleted a band within 2 min. because I changed my mind about name, but it still appears in my profile with no scores or fans.... and I can't even recreate the band in order to increase the stats. Just leaves a no fans band on my profile :(
