I originally posted this in one of the other sections but thought this might be a more appropriate section, plus this area looks to get more traffic. ;)

It concerns the idea of having a freestyle mode on the drum kit (play drums without the background music or scrolling note board)

Check out the poll/thread and see what you think of the idea...

I've been thinking about this too, but think it would be pretty hard for them to really pull off.

You've got four pads and a kick pedal to represent 8 different sounds.

when you're rocking along with the song you've got the following:

Snare, hi-hat closed, hi-hat open, tom, ride cymbal, crash cymbal, and kick drum

during fills you have:

Snare, tom, tom, crash, kick

So, since you have all those types of sounds, how would a freestyle mode actually work? You'd need some other way of switching the sounds that come from it. The thought that I had a couple days ago on this would be another foot pedal that I could use my left foot on to switch the sounds.

Better yet, I'd rather just have the ability to use my dtxpress (http://www.dtxperience.com/dtxpressIII.php) from Yamaha in the game so I can have all my drums in the right place :). Then we can talk about a freestyle mode ;)

My view on it was that you really could only have 5 sounds. I suppose that they could give you the choice of all available sounds and you could map them to what ever pad you wanted but that would take more work on the Dev's parts and if it is going to happen I think the less extra work they have to do, the more likely it is to get done.

I feel that just 1 snare, 1 tom (maybe 2 if you wanted to sacrifice a hi hat) 1 hi hat (closed I suppose) the crash symbol and of couse the base kicker would be sufficient for goofing around.

It would be great if add ons came down the road but to keep it simple I think just writing code for making the 5 basic sounds mapped to the existing pads would be great.
If they could include all the sounds and let me choose what I thought was best and map them accordingly, all the better.

As for your DTExpress, I am pretty sure they are never going to do that since ppl have all kinds of different drum machines and to make them all available would be a logistic nightmare not to mention they might just buy the game and use their guitar hero axes, drum machines, and mics from karaoke or headsets and then Hamonix can't sell all their extra goodies which is where they make the big bucks
