How stupid is the idea of having an online singer in the game if you cant even hear them when you play online?? What is the point of them at all??

one reason, lag

Maybe your singer had his mic volume turned down. I keep mine down so I can actually hear the song itself rather than me singing.

Yeah theres no way you can get around latency issues with that.

Even when ur playing against someone on guitar or whatever ur not actually seeing their notes hit/missed live. It uses interprets their data and shows it to you in a similar but not completely accurate way. So they might might a yellow note but on your screen it shows them missing the next blue note.

Pretty sure thats how they do it. Look it harmonix on the US patents data base. Bunch of info there.

I'm not sure I'd want to hear random people from the net sing really :D
I know I wouldn't want anyone to hear me "sing"!

I would agree that the reason it was not included was as a result of problems associated with lag.

absolustely right, if you ever use Ventrilo there is always a slight delay. Timing is crucial with a music game.

Yet another non-issue complaint. Think before you speak would you?

Yeah while we're at it...

Get some friends, then you don't have to play online.

He obviously thought about it before he spoke. It is you who should really think about what you're going to say, before you say it. If you didn't like the thread topic then you shouldn't have wasted your time posting or making the rest of us waste our time reading your post about a "non-issue complaint". Last time I checked, *****ing about a thread wasn't addressing an issue with the game, ass. Anyways, being able to hear the singer online would be nice, however, due to latency issues it's just not possible.

Although net latency would be a major issue to consider, let's also think of audio quality. When you do voice chat online, how good is the quality? You can understand what people are saying, but there's always a certain amount of fuzz and you don't get the full range of frequency. Even if you could hear them, what would it sound like? Nothing like what the game processes for the person standing next to you and singing. Although it heightens the "band" experience to hear the actual singer, I think people would eventually tire of hearing these sampled-down voices.

Yep, if they DID include this feature in the game, there would just be a ton of threads about how bad the voice is and how it's never in synch.

He didn't think about it at all. Besides the technical limitations (you know, like why when you push a button to download a DVD it doesn't magically appear on your hard drive in an instant) and he's also not thinking about the fact that maybe two people or three people on the hosted side and they want a bassist to make a foursome. Totally doable, the only person that "misses out" is the bassist on hearing vocals (and as was suggested, he's probably not missing out anyhow). So this whole Wow, that sucks so hard, I'm totally not going to buy the game and I'm going to tell a hundred people not to buy the game. Harmonix sucks! GH3 FTW! Trend on these forums is getting ridiculous.

It's like people TRY to find the smallest crap to whine about, mostly stuff that nothing can be done about, and even if it could it's not going to happen in a patch or just because you want it to work differently.

BTW last time you checked (where do you check for that anyhow?) *****ing in a thread doesn't address an issue in the game only applies when there's actually a real issue with the game being discussed.

This isn't a bug, it's not broken hardware, it was announced in advance of the release this wasn't going to be supported, it's a non-issue making it solely a complaint.

What can I say... getting kinda tired of all the complaining. The game is awesome, GOTY for sure and the crap people come up with... baffling.

Ultimately supporting this IS possible, but not without making a whole lot of other sacrifices and poor quality of service.

How ironic...*****ing about *****ing posts xD

Some people needs to understand that if you don't like certain topics you can skip them and keep enjoying the game.

I just hold the trigger on the controller down...although no one has said if it's laggy or not.

I press the shoulder buttons and see a symbol that I assume is 'Open Mic', but none of my friends can ever hear anything on it (PS3).

As nice as this would be (and it would be incredible) it just isn't really possible at the moment given the technical limitations listed above. Even a half second of lag between the singer and the rest of the band would sound weird when playing online. We did try it though... and then gave up when we had to hear our coworkers that way. ;)

Thanks for responding, Sean!

It'd be nice if you responded in the controller thread, as well...

That's what I am here for!

I've responded as much as I can so far regarding that thread. When I have more info I will be sure to share it.

I understand.

As far as voice goes, IS there ANY voice chat ability in the PS3 version? I've seen people say the triggers invoke it, and I think that's the XBL voice chat they are referring to.

Is there anything like that for the PS3?

And if not, what is that little icon that pops up in my vocals track when I hold down L2 or R2?

Thanks!
