View Full Version : The Proper Way to Organize The Clash Discography?

I have a bit of a dilema right now that I'm hoping all of you Clash enthusiasts can help me with. I have an mp3-player interface that lets me organize a band in a pretty rigid way:

Artist-Album-Song

I have virtually all of the major studio Clash stuff. I own the following albums:

The Clash (US)
Give 'em Enough Rope
London Calling
Sandanista!
Combat Rock
From Here to Eternity
Super Black Market Clash
Live at Shea Stadium
Cut the Crap
The Singles

I have also purchased the missing four songs from the UK version of The Clash from iTunes, along with all tracks from the various compilations that aren't on any album. By my account, out of studio stuff, I'm only missing The Vanilla Tapes, alternate takes on compilations and the Ratt Patrol from Fort Bragg unreleased bootleg album.

So here's the conundrum. I feel like Give 'em Enough Rope, London Calling and Combat Rock are all very simple and easily stand alone as albums organizationally.

However, The Clash is tricky since I have to figure out whether to make multiple copies of songs and create both versions of the album, or lump them all together. I also feel like the dub remixes on Sandanista! fit better with the dance remixes at the end of Super Black Market Clash than they do on the Sandanista album. I also want to take all of the random non-album singles, b-sides and outakes and organize them in a logical fashion.

In summary:

1. The Clash - US and UK versions separate or combined (space is a minor issue, but not a deal breaker)?
2. Sandanista - Should it be left as a stand-alone album, or is it acceptable to break it into a proper album of full songs, and put the remainders into a dub remixes album and an outakes compilation?
3. What is the best way to organize the scraps? Obviously, early punk outakes don't fit well with the later dub/dance remixes. Is this the best way to look at all of the outakes from The Clash on Broadway, The Essential Clash and The Singles? I'm thinking of a folder for "non-album singles/b-sides," a folder for "remixes" and a folder for "demos/alternate takes/odds and ends (Lose This Skin/Kid Version of Career Opportunities)." How would you guys approach this?

This is off topic, but Sell Out by Reel Big Fish would be awesome in Rock Band. I don't ever really see people talking about them on this forum and I think they are a killer band.
