With the news of the 360 version being region locked and me living in Japan, I'm going to be picking up a PS3 copy of Rock Band. However, I live out in the middle of nowhere in Japan, so I imagine I'll be relying heavily on the online play. Has anyone tried it out yet? Is it buggy? Hard to find matches? I really wish I had people around me who wanted to play, but... well... surprisingly, most of our fellow westerners who head to Japan aren't really into the video games so much.
So I'd appreciate if you left your impressions of the online play. It will be much appreciated.
And here's to hoping we don't have to wait forever to get online world tour!

I played online once. I found 1 match, we played. I think once people are done "winning" all the songs, they'll want to go online more.
I know that's what I'm doing.

I haven't heard any complains, but since all I heard about was from the US, the network might be region locked. In some online games, like RFOM was at launch, you could only play with people in their aera. So I have no ideas if you'll be able to play with people from anywhere.

Well they said in some PR that you could rock with friends in *Insert US city* and *Insert European city*. So I believe it is global. Even Resistance became region-free after a while. I can't wait til we hear about people having the system abroad. I am still looking for more confirmation that it's actually region locked for the 360 (before I make my decision).

Is there a difference between a game being region locked, and the case having the #1, with the little world thing, and on the back saying "licensed for distribution in North America and Mexico"? (I wonder how Mexicans feel for being excluded from NA). Or are you using a region free PS3, and therefore can play games from any region? (My friend living in India bought one from Singapore, and has his parents mail him games from the US, since its cheaper than buying in Asia, apparently).

From what I can see, the online play is almost completely lag free (and take it from me, college internet is AWFUL and I had no problems with Rock Band online) and without bugs.
Also, you won't have to worry about region locking on PS3---with the release of Blu-Ray, Japan was moved into Region 1, where the US is. So, you'll be just fine! :)

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I'll be fine, as long as my controller isn't broken, and everything stands up to international shipping. I'm paying for fast (and one would hope, more careful shipping -- boxes get DESTROYED in land/boat mail), but you just never know. Sure, I'll get insurance, but that takes forEVER to deal with.
