Taping the Drum Pads: Does it really fix it?

I'd love to hear how many people have had success with taping a drum pad to make it register better. I saw that video of the guy with the high score on drums on the Metallica song. Noticed he had taped his drums. My blue pad registers only about 75% of the time.

I'd really like to know on this too. I had some really thin tape, and put it on, and though it seemed to help, it wouldn't hold. If someone has found taping to work, and can include a pic of exactly what you taped and where, it would be much appreciated.

Guitar - Broken downstrum.
Drums - Heads don't register at times.
Microphone - Seems to think I'm always off-key.
That last part is probably just me.... ;)

Taping it doesn't work...you're just pushing the pad down into the tray which is causing a better connection.
