So I got rb and its great. But I play with my 11 year old and 6 year old. The 6 year old obviously plays on easy. My problem is in our 'band' we get to a certain venue and it doesn't give us the option to play on easy anymore..... is that how it is or do I have to do something in some sort of order to keep the 'easy' option???

Sorry for the sarcasm and rudeness but thats how the geniuses at Harmonix felt would be best to control our lives by making us pull our hair out, cuss at the tv, and tell our 6 yr olds who are now crying that we can't play RB anymore.

I personally think it should be an average of the difficulties instead of the lowest.

There's plenty of very successful bands that may have one of their band members that isn't as good as the rest (Ringo Starr for example), and it doesn't stop the collective from still being a huge success.

My understanding was that you can still play at a lower difficulty but you won't earn any fans.

I wasn't aware that this was how the game worked; I had read that your band does get to a point where you can no longer increase fans without moving to Medium, but not that Easy was actually locked off from play (I figured that you could play sets, but get no benefit from them.)

I don't think that Matrix2222's vitriol aimed at HMX is justified here. With all sympathies to your daughter, Medium is not that hard, so expecting people to step up to that isn't too much to ask on the path to completing BWT. HMX did say that Medium is the maximum required to fulfill the needed requirements in that mode, although there are optional side quests and things you can do that will require Hard.

Although your band may not continue to evolve, there is always quick play mode. The only downside to going that route is that you'll need to explore a Solo career to unlock any additional songs that you didn't get yet in the BWT.

I agree if its one of your buddies that suck and you can all laugh about it but when its a 6 year old she pretty much just gives up = sucks for out band

I don't think the Beatles are a very good example--while extremely catchy and no doubt classic, most of their music was just not as complex or difficult as the majority of the songs seen in RB. :) Your point is valid, but then you as players have to do some sort of math to figure out where your band will land with one guy on Expert, two on Hard and one on Easy (which is what our four-player troupe would sometimes encounter.)

You could always play quickplay. It'd be pretty weird if HMX catered to 6 year olds when this game is recommended for teens and above.

I'm not sure if it would be 'catering' to 6 years olds... it would just be allowing easy mode for the whole game. Its not a huge deal - I was mainly wondering if I wasn't doing something correct. I guess I'm not.

Is she playing bass? I did notice that Detroit Rock City doesn't have an easy option on bass... because medium essentially is easy.

Other than that, the option to play easy doesn't go away.

It essentially is because anybody in the target audience can play the instruments on medium and pass songs.

I've noticed a few events in BWT that do not offer Easy as a difficulty selection once you pick the set. I remember noticing this down in Los Angeles - maybe when playing for our jet. I wondered at the time if Medium would go away at some point too, but from what I've heard the only sets that force you to play on Hard or Expert are a few of the challenge sets late in the game. The path to the Hall of Fame should be open to Medium players. But if you want to stay on Easy, you may end up confined to one continent.

As others have mentioned, the Quickplay option is probably better than BWT for this then. After all, you probably want to avoid some songs even on Easy. Green Grass and High Tides is tougher on Easy than many of the songs on Medium.

Quickplay would be a fine solution if you could pick your created characters. I think that playing as some goth girl with some ridiculous makeup is not nearly as fun as playing the songs with a rocked out version of me and my mates.

From what I've noticed, I think Easy is only taken away when you do the special gigs to earn things (bus, jet, roadies, etc.). If possible just try to play through that gig on your own real quick to pass it, and then your kids can come back and play after.

Isn't this game rated T for Teen? And aren't we supposed to Respect the Ratings?

I'm being a hypocrite of course because my 6 and 4 year olds are playing the game too.

Ringo was a VERY solid drummer who kept excellent tempo, he just wasn't a prolific drummer like Ginger Baker. If you happen to listen to "I feel Fine" by the Beatles and if that's REALLY him on the drums THEN you'll know that that groove is not an easy piece to play. ...but this out of the scope of the thread.

Maybe you need to take a course in rock and roll history. While Ringo was not up to the level of Lennon/McCartney as a songwriter, he was one of the finest rock drummers out there period!

Maybe they're crying not because they can't play RB anymore, but because daddy just started yelling, swearing, and cursing at the tv?

Personally, if my daughter could play the game on easy (5-yr-old), then I'd be encouraging her to try a harder level, and attempt to get better.

Finally, I know it's dark humor, but when I read your post, I immediately thought of those overbearing sports parents that you see at the kid's games:

"Damn it, Billy! Get strumming! Only 72% on that solo? You suck! Grow up, be a man, and NAIL that solo!"

"Dad, can't I play outside? My fingers are getting sore..."

"That's FAILURE talk! No son of mine talks like that! Get back in front of the tv, and you better get to 88% of notes hit before your mother gets home or else there will be NO DINNER for you!"

I vaguely remember seeing Main Offender having Medium and Easy blacked out so only Hard was playable.

But I haven't turned the game back on yet to confirm my memories. Curse you Black Friday and your business!
