I usually dont complain but if they wanted to put a long song in dont you think green grass and high tides is a little excessive while they were at it maybe why not put in 2112 or stairway to heaven lol

At least GGaHTF is upbeat the entire time. Freebird was 3 minutes of sleep, then 5 of finger mangling.

I dont know its not that its a challenging song on drums its too boring I would rather a song near the end of game to be more challenging and not base a song's toughness on how long it is

What difficulty are you playing drums on?

But you have to realize patterns/charts are only half the equation. BWT incorporates the setlist feature into the game because stamina is as crucial as the other components of gameplay. if you notice a lot of the songs initially are short, maybe 2 or 3 mins but as it progresses you have songs that are longer which test your mettle. its like...working out and adding more weight as you go along. sure you can do 10 reps of 50 lbs but try doing 20 reps of 100 lbs.

I like it as a Guitar song no problem It's long and keeps you awake the whole time, but on drums for that song is very boring

I failed on medium 4 times between 92-95 percent. It's just fine on drums.

I just played this on solo vocals and I swear it is edited. It certainly didn't seem like 10 minutes in length when you sing it. Very fun though. :)

It's possible, when you do Foreplay/Long Time on solo vocals it cuts out Foreplay.

this song is so freaking hard on guitar on expert. i get destroyed by the y-r-g-r-y trills. that and the part where you are supposed to alt pick wicked fast...it doesn't help that my guitar doesn't pick up all the time either. sometimes i miss the energy notes cuz of a double strum too and my tilt sensor is f'ed so i have to hit select. i tried using the solo buttons for the trill part but i still can't do it perfectly. i can do the rest of the song no prob it's just the parts in the second solo that pwn me. any tips?

I saved up my 'star power' to full and let myself drop about 1/2 of the way down before activating it and I FINALLY beat that God foresaken stage. It's so easy to lose the rythem. Remember to focus really hard and even stop for a few seconds if you have to to get the grey notes down so you get more star power, it's all about being able to stick with the groove and when you drop it to relax, stop, and regain control again.

The beginning intro 'slow part' that reminds of me "18 and Life" for some reason is cut short (one repetition I think) on solo vocals.
Edit: The fast part is the only hurdle for me on medium, although I can say I never dropped below yellow (somehow) when playing it. I'm pretty sure my eyes glazed over for a good part of that while my brain was on autopilot.

Just yesterday I thought it would take me forever to beat GGHT on expert (guitar)... and that's saying a lot considering I breezed through GH3 expert during a rental period. The tighter timing windows in RB just make it more of a challenge to nail the really fast sections. Star power helps, but even more importantly, practice is your friend. I practiced solo section 2I a bunch of times until my fingers just "got it." Muscle memory is an amazing thing. So I beat it, and I'm psyched... 5 stars now on all the standard guitar tracks on expert difficulty. =) I've got no beef with the song... everything leading up to solo 2 is infinitely more entertaining than Freebird was. Drums on the other hand are a totally different story... but I get it. It's an endurance test.

this song is the bane of my existence right now. The highest completion i;ve gotten so far on medium drums is 70 something percent. I lose it at the fast part..i think once i miss the bass drum once, the rest falls apart...then i see flashing red...then hear crowd booing..then i fail.
...and cry myself to sleep.

As far as I'm concerned this is the hardest song in the game (except for maybe the singer, but they get to play some bad-ass tambourine). The bass-line is challenging, the guitar solos are tough and I haven't tried stepping the drums up to hard yet, but on normal it's the only song I've lost the beat on due to physical exhaustion. It's strange that it's not in the impossible songs but a step down (forget the name of the next category atm :p)

I beat it my first time on expert drums, but yeah, it was like an endurance challenge; it was so repetetive. My leg wanted to fall off at the end.

Coincidentally I just finished trying to beat this on guitar. This song SUCKS!
My biggest ***** is that it ****ing smacks you in the face. I mean prior to this song the game was good and fun. The solos were fun and I even found myself dropping the obsession with stars GH taught me and having a great time playing with effects. Beating the songs easily but the fun charts kept boredom at bay. Better than GHII in some areas.
Then I get *****slapped by this finger bleeder. I'd much prefer this in DLC.

I think I got about halfway through the medium Drum tour before this one showed up. I kept getting between 50 and 60% complete before I would fail out, specifically on the second guitar solo. I'm still working on my kick timing, I guess.
Today I had two drummer friends over who have barely played the Guitar Hero games. One of them beat it in two tries on medium, the other beat it without breaking a sweat on hard. I was playing guitar for that one and he actually looked bored for most of the song.
I played through the guitar tour on Hard and when this song came up I blasted it, 5 stars on my first try. I felt free..
tough and awesome song, though.

I feel like I cheated to beat that song. I wound up training myself to switch to the upper frets for the last solo, then managed to two hand tap my way through the g-r-y-r-g part. I used my right pointer on the yellow, then let my left pointer and middle fingers focus on the green and red buttons.
As far as the drums go, this song killed me on medium. Then when I got back to it on hard after I beat medium, the song had barely changed at all and it was a cakewalk. Weird how I could change so much in a day.

11-23-2007, 08:38 PM
Yeah, for sure.. when I came back to it after a day I felt more confident and was nailing the kick a lot more, but still not enough to survive the song. even though I had my drummer friend beat it (oops..) I'll still go back and try it some more. why is it so early in the "Medium" set list for solo tour??
JoshuaNeff
11-23-2007, 09:20 PM
Yea... this song... ugh. I can get damn near perfect to the "fun" part, then I can tap through the R-Y-G-Y-R or whatever it is part... get out of that with full green... but the freaking second one like that for some stupid reason I always screw up on.
The kicker is I can get the very last part 100% every single time tapping.... so I play for freaking 90 minutes to get to the solo, then lose it. In practice I can get 70% easy... so with full green I figure that should be able to carry me.
One more freaking overdrive section and I could beat it soooo easy...
This song... ugh. Not fun. It was just one tiny step too far into the "GH insanity" area... but with the smaller window it just kind of ruins the "fun" and makes it a super hard annoying song on guitar.

This might be a cheap way of beating the song on drums in medium, but I wanted to get past it to get on to hopefully more fun songs. Endless bass drums kicks aren't my idea of extended fun.
So, when the fast part comes on concentrate on not screwing up the hands. Keep the high-hat and snare parts going without even touching the bass drum pedal. Now, throw in some bass drum hits at the appropriate time. If you start screwing it up, stop with the bass drum but keep the hands going. Just keeping the hands going correctly will mostly maintain your crowd approval so you won't fail the song. Any bass hits that you work in correctly will boost you up a bit higher so that you can raise up a bit.
That's how I did it. Crappy score, but once my leg gets conditioned better maybe I can improve.

I got 5* first time through on both medium and hard drums. I'm probably not the average player, though, since I'm a bassist and soccer player (beefy calves and thighs). It definitely gave me a run for my money, though.

I'm totally stuck in this song and another one that has the same pattern (R+Y, Y+Bass, rinse repeat) in Rockacabana... meaning that I can't play new songs unless I finish those
the furthest along I got was 88% on medium in the second try, all the subsequent time I failed before that...

I actually found Hard to be EASIER than medium on drums for GGHT! The first time I played it on Hard, I saved up my Overdrive for the entire song...just in case...and still had that overdrive by the end of the song.

How do you guys keep your arms/wrists/hands from not getting tired? I tried the dudes way with just doing the hi-hats/snare without touching the kick pedal, but my arms just get too freakin tired and crap out lol
Do I just need to keep trying it over and over? BTW: This is the worst song ever put into a music game :P I like challenging, but this is ridiculous.

Just keep your grip on the sticks fast and loose. Bounce to the rhythm of the music a bit and "get into it." DO NOT start thinking about how you wish it'd be over with....or start worrying about the hard part coming up. Just get into the song and enjoy it as much as you can. Shake your head a bit, act like you're performing on stage. It will help you from losing your rhythm because your whole body will be into it helping you keep time.
It's strange, but some songs just kinda required you to get into their zen to get through them. ...I found GGHT on medium to be one of those songs.

This song kills me every time. I love trying to beat it, but I never can. I get about half way through the second solo on expert and that part where g-r-y-r-g over and over kills me. My fingers aren't fast enough to pull that off in both directions yet. Getting better, though. I can almost do it at 90% speed now.

Perfectly stated my good friend. I did exactly what you did and passed it on medium after failing big time about 8 times. My wrists and right ankle where shot! But i got the flow of it and stayed focused (eyes even watered from not blinking) This song is by far the worst song put into gh, gh2, gh3, 80's and RB in my honest opinion. why is it in the game? not a great song to listen to and not fun at all to play on any instrument or sing! but i guess with a pile of bright red apples theres always that rotten one. ok the song is decent thats just my frustration talking. i can barely type this post i think that song gave me mild carpel tunnel. :(

I've tried a couple songs on hard and just can't get my head around the orange button, I JUST CANT DO IT!!!! I work up the confidence after owning all songs on Medium and then with its time to put up or shut up I switch to Hard and WHAM! I fail the first song no more than half way through it. I just miss the button all the time, then I start thinking about where my fingers are and start hitting the wrong buttons for the other 4, its a mess =(
Anyways, I can't/won't even try and imagine GGHT on expert let alone hard, I refuse!

HMX designs every solo career to be progressed through naturally. if you start on medium and beat it you should be prepared to start on hard. The hardest jump in the game is guitar medium to hard(if you've never played GH or RB before). On drums medium to hard is a lot smootehr and just starts introducing more complicated hand to BD beats.

Forgot to mention I am referring to playing the guitar and that I am pretty much a newb to the guitar games. I had guitar hero 3 for awhile and beat in on medium then traded that in for Rock Band (glad I did). I guess I just need more practice with the addition of the orange button and I am sure that I will eventually get it but the few times I have tried, I failed horribly. I don't know what it is, I just couldn't get to that orange button consistently and then completely lost my rhythm and couldn't get back on track. I'm sure I'll eventually get it.

I finally reached this song on medium (being a lilly-white Irish boy with no rhythm, drums are a challenge to say the least!), and the best way I can describe that part is that it's like walking down the street, having my right foot chopped off, and falling face-first into a brick wall. No the song order is different for every instrument. It's the last song on easy drums but it's far from the last on medium, and yes I'm still stuck on it as well. It's frustrating that I could nail the same pattern beat earlier in the song when it's the red and blue drums but the red and yellow screws me up big time.

I was ready to smash my drum set last night after trying to get through this song. Like someone else said I was hoping that fast part was just a short section I needed to power through. Then I realized it was the rest of the f***in' song. Even after practicing it for a while I still couldn't get that beat down. I really wish there was a way to skip the song. I'd like to play some other songs.

The problem I have with the song is it's not a song you really WANT to play. It's not a great song. In past GH games, the final difficult songs were mostly songs you wanted to play. Freebird made total sense as a final song. Same with the song in GH1 (I'm blanking. Bark at the Moon?). With GGaHT drums, on those long repetitive sections I always start off fine, and then drift off the beat at times, mostly because of boredom when my mind wanders. When I first beat that song it wasn't really an enjoyable experience. I essentially never wanted to play that song again.

I had a lot of trouble with GGHT on medium. Once I bought a drum throne the fast bass part was not strenuous at all, it's just long. I 5 starred it on hard last night on my first try, had a lot more trouble with Vasoline which is in the same tier.

I freakin hate this song. Just throwing in my two cents worth. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like it.
I did it on drums the other day in the career mode. I couldn't wait for it to end. By the time it was over I was actually yelling at the tv as though the band could hear me. It's not a good song, it's way too long, and there's that part at the very end where the drumming gets difficult. Had I failed at that point I'd have ended up with two drumsticks lodged into my big screen tv.

I loathe this song. I wish I could delete it.
I can't say enough. I loathe the band, the song, the inclusion in RB. I used to just dislike it, but I randomly got it for my tourbus set and failed over and over and over until I got my singer to play the base drum and we finally put our heads down and got through it.

I'll also say that GGaHT is much easier on Hard. And it's not because you've played more by the time you get there cause I got down with that played a few other songs then went to try it on Medium just to get 5 stars and struggled through it again.
For those just wanting to get past it my suggestion is to never use overdrive. Keep it full until you absolutely need it. Meanwhile that'll keep giving you fills constantly through the second solo so you can take a quick breather check yourself and get back on rhythm (I find I drift so after about 30-40 notes I get off).
Just never use overdrive, even if you think you're near the end. I made that mistake and failed out. About busted my drum set I was so mad that I was foolish enough to use overdrive.
Hope that helps.

I love this song. But for the life of me I cannot get passed solo 2H/2I on expert, it is killing me. I can't get my fingers to move that fast. And that is on guitar...I haven't even tried it on drums yet, but from what I have seen it is no walk in the park.
I guess I just need to keep practicing, but not being able to beat this one and only song is really annoying. Not to mention I have almost 5 starred everything up to this point.

Same here, I got 5*s on every song on Expert Guitar first time through (and gold stars on more than half of them) up until this one...I tried it 5 times earlier today... Failed at 80%, 80%, then switched from LP to Strat, 81%, 81%, 85%...That 85% was the first time I got through the G-R-Y-R-G without failing (thanks to Overdrive), but then immediately failed when it did the same pattern on R-Y-B-Y-R because I had no Overdrive left
I guess I'll actually have to go to Practice mode for the first time ever in this game for any song on any instrument :(
