I went to walmart yesterday to buy some clothes for my wife( new job at gamestop, yes! ) and I saw they had a set up for ghwt on a big ole tv. I had been thinking of renting or buying game only, but thought id give it a shot there at wally world.

Well first things first, it looks way to kiddish for me after playing rock band for so long. Also, I really cant comprehend the stupid round notes, too hard to figure out what and when to play what ever. Couldnt figure out the slide strip, and when I went to bass, there was an extra note like a bass(drum) note on the song and I for the life of me couldnt figure out what the hell that was and I failed out.

I did try the jimmy eat world song, the middle, to see how it was compared to rb, and pretty close, but in the end, just feel like that game is a half hearted attempt at what rock band did with rock band 1.

So in closing, I got to say that I dont really feel its worth 60+ bucks for a game that is really not even as fun as rock band 1, and has roughly half the songs we already got. So I wont be buying, renting, borrowing, anything to do with ghwt.

Just thought Id give my impressions on the game so others might save some cash and not bother with a 2nd thought of a game.

Thank god HMX knows what they are doing with rock band. Keep up the good work.

Please, Im not trying to start anything either, this is just my opinion, you are intitled to yours too. Im not bashing ghwt because Im a rock band fanboy either. I gave it a shot, and as so, I thought Id share my OWN opionion of the game.

Interested in what others really thought of the game too.

Hi, I moved this to general, since it's not really about RB (well, it is in comparison, but you know what I mean). You'll also notice there's a whole thread of GH reviews here, so have fun checking that out for more opinions. :)

ok, no problem, just curious as to what others thought on the game.

Really? Damn shame since they got 311 and The Joker. :( I might rent it.

I believe that bass note that you made reference to is the "open string" where no buttons are pressed.

This is the MAIN reason I kind of want to play it. HMX where's our 311? I do have a friend who likes to play RB with me and he rented it and said he likes it more than RB. I tried to explain to him, very rationally, that he was wrong. In the end we agreed to disagree about the fact that Guitar Hero sucks.

...we're not friends anymore. (kidding)

I was in Walmart the other day and saw the display. The drums looked very weak, but I tried them anyway. Agree that the round notes are not as good as RB. The drums were very toyish. I play RB on an Ion kit, and the difference is tremendous. Also agree, no need to try it, not interested at all.

I play it on my RB drums, other than being a little easy i like it, got some good songs.

There's your problem... trying to treat a subjective measurement as if it were objective. There is no "rational" argument to say that one of the games is better.

I played a tiny bit of GHWT at Wal-Mart, did some drums just to test out how the sound of the set was (ie, not f'ing loud like RB's drums). That was fine, no problems there. I didn't check out guitar/bass, but I'll have to do that next time I'm by a display.

Side rant: how on God's green earth is it not possible to figure out the round notes? They are exactly the same as Rock Band's notes. When the little shape is in the bar at the bottom, press the button. There is (aesthetics aside) simply NO DIFFERENCE! It blows my mind, because this is either Harmonix fanboyism to the extreme, or yet another example of how powerful preconceptions are in determining how you see things. Either way, it's mind-blowing.

No offense, but how is it a con to the game that you didn't understand the new features? The open note on the bass for instance has been widely talked about. Its a store display, you can't expect everyone to take a tutorial before playing.

I wonder if they actually have it set up at the Wal-Mart near my house...I want to try the drums.

If I'm even SEMI impressed I'll consider it (Already considering it hahaah)

here is my opinion. i feel that the only con there is, is that you're a ****ing idiot. couldn't figure out the slide strip? couldn't figure out the "extra note like a bass(drum)note"?

to judge a game when you, A. don't know how to play it B. played it for 2 songs, is ******ed.

FAIL.

lmao i'm the ignorant piece of fanboy ****? because i played a game for 10 minutes and decided it sucked ass? o wait that would not be me. complexity you say? lmao. i picked the game up, and figured it out. omg all on my own too. wow.
how does anything i say make me a fanboy? i love rb2 and ghwt is cool too. but he hasn't even given the game a chance, and he won't. he's to biased and his "review" is garbage.
1/4 of the people in the world are ******ed? where did you pull that statistic from?
and btw, it would be "you're the dumb ****"

No, he's 100% right, if overly harsh. Criticizing GH:WT for having these things is like someone playing GH or RB for the first time criticizing them for having hammer-ons. It's not an obvious game mechanic, but that doesn't make it a worse game.

Whether the mechanic itself is any good is a matter of personal taste, but the fact that the mechanic wasn't decipherable in a "pick up and play" fashion says absolutely nothing.

Ok, here's a thought from someone who played through every single instrument career on GH WT.

I rented the game last week to try it out, partially because I didn't really wanna buy it, and part because I was broke. :P

So anyways, the guitar on the game was fine, much improved from GH3 in my opinion.
The vocals on the other hand, sucked tremendously. I am capable of 5-starring every song on expert vocals on RB, so I'm at least decent, and was still only managing 70-80% on most songs in GH.

The drums, I'll admit I only played with a RB kit, so not to their full effect...but I honestly wasn't impressed. I know it's been said before, but the purple bass line is not impossible to see, but you actually have to "look" for it at times. Also, hitting yellow/blue to activate star power, if you're in a faster section, breaks the streak almost every time. Not impressed.

As for the songs, admittedly, I was excited about playing some of the songs...but I was skeptical about it still, because GH3 managed to ruin the fun of some of my favourite songs. But I gave GH WT a chance in that regard anyways.

I first played through the guitar career, and it was fun to an extent, and seemed to fly by. Over the next few days however, while trying to complete the other instrument careers, I had to force myself to play for the same extended time, just to get passed the filler songs...and there's lots of them, in my opinion...to get to the good ones. It felt like a chore...and not have a lot of replayability.

I can't explain the difference, but Rock Band just has that "it" factor, where I can play the same songs over and over and not get immediately bored. GH on the other hand, I play them maybe 2-3 times, and it's a chore to play them again. That's just my opinion of course.

Again, I know it sounds like I'm being overly harsh on GH, and overly supportive of RB....but I'll admit to GH WT being fun on guitar/bass...but not on anything else. So, in other words, although they may not be "competitive" by doing so, I think they'd have a better game by sticking to just the "guitar" Hero.

Not if you do it right, if you hit during another note say a red note, you hit yellow and blue together instead of red you wont blow your streak.

Edit: I try to activate on a blue note and just add the yellow, never blow my streak.

that would be what i do, or on a yellow note and just add the blue (which comes up more often)
