Why wont my PS3 recognize the guitars?

I have a 40GB PS3 and Rock Band with the drums microphone and 2 guitars, but the guitars just wont turn on, is there some kind of USB device i need to plug in the PS or something?

Yes, there is. The guitars should have come with a USB dongle. On the GH3 Les Paul, the dongle looks like an oversized guitar pick with a 2-3 inch USB cable sticking out of it. On the RB Stratocaster, the dongle looks like a black box about the size of a deck of cards (only more square) with a 2-3 inch USB cable sticking out of it.
