Who do you think is better music-wise NIN or Marilyn Manson? I say NIN.

The poll hasn't come up yet, but I say NIN, by far.

Definitely Nine Inch Nails. While I respect Manson's views, I've never found his music that extraordinary. I really like NIN's industrial sound, and the fact that it's mostly done by one man makes me like it more.

Overall Trents musc contains more emotion... he is also true to Industrial in the sound. Not to mention Trent is more so about the music now and NOT the money.

And Trent cares more about his fans... I remember reading somewhere Manson completely insulted his fans. Reznor reserves the first 5 rows at his concerts for true fans... (People who are registered on NIN's site and bought the tickets through the site)

Not to mention Trent is an overall fantastic musician and producer. And IMO has a better voice

Edit : But don't take me seriously... I really like NIN and when I was in High School (Last year iknowrite?) I saw fans of his music and they made me sick. But I didn't judge him there... I tried some of his music and c'mon... I really couldn't stand it. And then read that he called his fans posers and people unable to stick up for themselves... I lost any and all respect for him

Don't forget that Trent paid for everyone to own The Slip

What do you mean?

As in he paid to let people have it for free?

i think it's gonna be a while before someone says manson is the better of the two in seriousness.

once marilyn manson can release an album that isn't half great and half vomit inducing, then i'll hold the band in a higher regard. though since year zero, mr. reznor has become the last in a long line of personal heroes to let me down.

It was basically financed out of his own pocket, and he gave the music away for free.

Wow... he cares more about the music than I originally thought...

Wasn't he also throwing tracks at HMX to release?

I think he asked to be in the game and Harmonix said yes, instead of the other way around like it usually is.

Nine Inch Nails. I haven't listened to much of Manson's music, but I didn't really dig what I have heard.

Marilyn Manson's first album remains a personal favorite of mine. I hold that one in much higher regard than any NIN album. Too bad all the following ones paled in comparison.

I do love Trent's views on music and how he pays for albums out of his own pocket to get the music to his fans. If he did approach HMX and ask to be in the game, I say we need to get Terrible Lie, Head Like A Hole and Closer. :)

Nine Inch Nails by far. I view Marilyn Manson as a male Madonna. There may be some talent there (or was, at some point early in their careers), but for the most part they seem like they're trying really hard to be really controversial, and it just ends up being silly and pathetic.

I gotta say Manson gets a bad rap because his fans were really kind of stupid people, at least the ones I grew up around. But if you just listen to it without any kind of preconception, it's not bad stuff.

Still, not better than NiN.

NIN had some good early albums.

manson had one decent song.

He had more than one decent song... most of Lest We Forget is pretty good... it's not necessarily deep, but it just funk dark Rock n' Roll. Manson really does get a bad rap.

i thought "man that you fear" was okay... everything else i've heard was really bad.

Reznor trumps Manson in every single category imaginable.

Trent Reznor is freakin awesome. wen i read he did the majority of the work on his music by himself, i had the utmost respect for him. but after reading stuff here, i have even more respect. I got The Slip off the offical site awhile back but i didnt kno he had to pay for it. thats amazing.(Corona Radiata actually just came up on shuffle on my iPod right now lol) but yea awesome unique sounds in all his songs that NEVER seem to get old. ive listened to the hand that feeds far more often than any human being should 0_o

I'm not a huge fan of NIN, but I'd say that NIN is easily better than Manson. The only Manson songs I like is The Beautiful People, whilst I like most NIN songs to varying degrees.

Its my opinion that without NIN, or more importantly Trent Reznor and of course without Alice Cooper there would be NO Marilyn Manson. I believe in Mansons overbearing freakiness about as much as I believe Gene Simmons could really spit blood, or that David Bowie was actually from outer space.

And also NIN music blows Manson out of the water, if you ask me. Marilyn wishes he could write an album as good as Pretty Hate Machine

Marilyn Manson is the band I discovered first and I still hold their works higher than Nine Inch Nails (probably my 2nd favorite band).

You can say without Trent, there would be no Marilyn Manson, but that's just not true. He built up a following in Florida long before Trent came by and helped him out. If it wasn't him it would of just been someone else.

Both are parts of great musical acts and if you think The Beautiful People is Marilyn Manson's only good work and you actually like older Nine Inch Nails stuff besides The Hand That Feeds and The Slip, you really haven't gave it a fair listen.

Try these songs:

Disposable Teens
The Dope Show
Lunchbox
The Reflecting God
I Don't Like The Drugs (But The Drugs Like Me)
Rock And Roll Is Dead
Wrapped In Plastic
Tourniquet

I highly recommend at least checking out their first album (the one really untouched by Trent) since it's just a great compilation of shock/funk/dark rock with songs like:

Snake Eyes and Sissies
Organ Grinder
Cake and Sodomy
Lunchbox
Wrapped in Plastic
Get Your Gunn
Misery Machine

I like your argument. If you were referring to my post in the quoted part above I wasnt saying Trent made Marilyn, but Marilyn swiped a few pages out of his playbook, at least in my opinion.

My problem with the majority of Manson fans, is that they are almost sheeplike with him, and they are gravitated more towards his image, rather then the actual music. A sort of, "He's a freak, and nobody likes me neither" type adoration.

But if his music is really appealing to you, and you are fully aware that his image is a business decision, and not exactly reality, then power to ya.

Yeah, I know the entire shock act is just his way of selling albums and it worked for him so congratulations to him on that. I actually couldn't care less about his image, I just think that he is a very talented singer and has had some very talented bandmates through the years.

Skold, very famous industrialist guitarist.
Twiggy, very famous bassist who has played with NIN and others
Fish, very talented drummer in my opinon.
