AC/DC is coming to my town in a few weeks so I thought I would check on tickets. They are charging $97 per ticket !!!! That is crazy.
Metallica is also coming and they are only charging $55.50 a ticket.
Would you pay almost $100 for a ticket to see one of your favorite bands?

Yes, and Im traveling from here in Dallas to Houston b/c I cant go to the show here. Its also my Christmas present. If they are one of your favorite bands, then its def worth it...this should be in general though

No, I would not pay $97 for a concert. $55.50 for Metallica is much more reasonable.
You also have to remeber that there will be various fees and taxes associated with the ticket. Usually about $20 bucks each and then you have to pay for gas, parking and that expensive ass stadium beer.
I think VHI will show a much younger AC/DC concert. Oh yeah, almost forgot, the new walmart album is sucks anyway(imo).

They have not mentioned if there will be other bands. I would imagine it has to be the 3 hour set.
I know Metallica has a 4 ticket minimum to go see them.

Yup, I just checked Ticket Master for prices...OMG !!!! They go from $97 all the way up to $965 for floor seats.
They want $97 plus a $7.95 service charge for one nose bleed ticket.
They want $965 plus a $144.75 service charge for one floor seat.
As you said, not including all the other fees.

^ Figures. I was just about to post the rates of the relative tickets, I mean c'mon this is ACDC people. Like'em or not, they're going to be expensive. I knew from the get-go $97 is the blueist blue seat EVER.

I won't pay more than $50 to see anybody.

They can charge that much because enough people are willing to pay - its that simple. The last concert I went to, I probably paid $30, but I am hitting this show in Cleveland. Once of my favorite bands and I have never seen them live. BTW, the Donnington show (DVD) was excellent!

the thread asks if I would pay it to see ac/dc, the answer is no, then you ask if I would pay it to see one of my favorite bands, answer is still no. Led zeppelin or Pink floyd, I would pay 200 easily, but not zep without plant. I wanted to see fiona apple a couple years ago and tickets were like 150 bucks and it sold out. I guess she just caters to the higher class audience. I wouldn't have paid it anyway.

You think 97 is bad? Please. Jeff Dunham, one of my favorite comedians, came to Atlanta a couple months back. I live in Clemson, so it's about a 2-hour drive. Looking at a full tank of gas for the trip there and back. Sixty bucks or so at the time. Anyway... I went online looking for tickets. The least expensive pair of tickets I found was in the upper-level of the place he was performing, and those were going for 160 dollars. Not for both... for each.
THAT is ridiculous. Fricken highway robbery. 160 dollars for a ventriloquist? No thanks. I don't care how awesome he is.

I paid $100+ to see The Who last month. Worth every penny from my point of view. Is it worth if for you? Depends on your financial situation and how much you like AC/DC. My brother saw the show this week in Toronto and said it was fantastic.
You also have to consider that this *might* be their last tour.
I also have very fond memories of shows I saw when I was younger. Tickets were cheaper back then but I was also poorer :-). I don't regret anything.

I had a chance to see AC/DC for $33 in the late 90's and I didn't go then so hell no I wouldn't pay almost $100. There are some bands I would pay that much to see but I don't think Cobain is coming out of hiding anytime soon.

No band is worth that. I specifically don't see bands that gouge ticket prices like this.

I am hoping to see AC/DC next year, rumours are flying that they may be the band headlining the big outdoor concert we have in my area here each year (last year it was the Eagles and tickets were over $115 each). If they do come and tickets are in the same price range, I will go for sure.
It is all about percieved value, if you think it is worth it to you, then it is. If you don't, simply don't buy the tickets. AC/DC has been selling out venues at that price, so I assume enough people feel they are worth the money.
Hell, Ozzy Osbourne was here last year and his tickets were well over $100 for bowl seats, not even floors (almost $800 for the first 20 rows) and Rob Zombie wasn't even part of the show for his dates in this area. He sold out every show.....

I just paid $400 on eBay for a pair of floor seats at their Jersey show next week... so there's my answer I guess =)

The shows on this tour are being opened by a band called The Answer. The first show of the tour in Wilkes-Barre, PA was 90 minutes long. The last show they did in Boston clocked in at 1 hour 40 minutes. Don't forget, Brian Johnson is 61 years old. A 3 hour show is asking a bit much.
Opening night they played 17 songs, they added Shoot To Thrill on the 2nd night and the setlist hasn't changed since.
Rock n Roll Train
Hell Ain't a Bad Place To be
Back In Black
Big Jack
Dirty deeds done dirt cheap
Thunderstruck
Black Ice
The Jack
Hells Bells
Shoot to thrill
War Machine
Anything Goes
You Shook Me all night long
TNT
Whole lotta Rosie
Let There Be Rock
Encore:
Highway To Hell
For Those About To Rock

It depends on the venue, and where my seat was. Would I pay $100 to sit in the rafters of a huge auditorium? Not in this lifetime. Would I pay $100 to sit front row in a huge auditorium? Absolutely. Would I pay $100 to sit in a smaller venue where there are no bad seats. Definitely.

I just saw them last week in Toronto. The tickets we got were basically at the top of the stadium, and they were ~$85 CAD. The setlist quoted is what I saw, and I would highly recommend it for any AC/DC fan - it was a fantastic concert!
I can't comment on The Answer, because they had problems getting to the venue and couldn't open.

For $100, I'd go see AC/DC... at the Pageant. It has to be a smaller venue for that price. Not the frickin savvis center.

Yeah, the Pageant would be perfect. $97 at Savvis would suck !!!! You would be so high that you would get crapped on by the pidgeons.

I paid just under 400 for 3 tickets 12 th row right next to the stage. very worth it. when metalica came thier tickets were just as much for not half the band. so I think it is worth it.

Last year I spent $110 on a ticket to see NIN live in Sydney (normal price to see a big band in Australia). That was just general admission. Real gigs don't have seated options.
I also had to pay $400 for plane tickets there and back and another $150 for misc costs while over there, mostly travel and food (crashed at friends place for free, thankyou bjay)
I'd been lining up with a few other fans since about 11am, at 4pm, 3 hours b4 gates opened the PR dude came out and told us the show was canceled.
NIN came back 5 months later to make up for it and I spent another $550 to fly over there and actually see them. It kicked ass.
Total cost to see NIN live: $1220 for 1 person.
I'll also note I'm unemployed and just work freelance doing jobs here and there, $1220 is like 2 months pay for me.
On the plus side, NIN are touring Australia again next year and I already have tickets.
They cost $135 but its for a full festival (with other bands like Lamb of God, Alice in Chains, Lacuna Coil, In Flames, Bloodhound Gang, Billy Talent, All That Remains and like 20 other bands). Plus side, they're coming to Adelaide, so no plane tickets to buy. Downside of course, is the fact NIN put on less of a show during fesitvals. I love all the AV stuff they usually have.

Yeah. I've seen AC/DC enough times over the years at 1/4 of the price they are charging on this tour, and aside from the new songs, it's the same set they do over and over again.
When all is said and done, I think tickets came out to 120 bucks per person. This is the first time since 1983 I am NOT going to an AC/DC show.

I have to say yes I would and have already done so. As I went to the Oct 28th show at Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-barre. Sat Front Row too. I paid 92 Dollars a ticket plus all the stupid fees that ticketmaster has but for 2 tickets I paid $216. But in the case for me, this was a show I didn't want to miss as I never had a chance to go see them before and they are one of my favorite bands.
EDIT: Also they had a band called The Answer open for them. Who played for about a half hour (player roughly 5 or 6 songs) and then AC/DC came on and played for about 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours.

$97 for a ticket is slightly high, but far from unreasonable. I've paid that and more for tickets. I tend not to do the el cheapo seats though. I like being close, but without paying eleventy bajillion dollars for front row. If it's at a real concert hall, the floor orchestra seats. If it's at a pavillion, I tend to get equivalent kinda seats if I can.

Most I paid for tickets was $125 for a two-day festival (Rock on the Range in Columbus, OH FTW), and I thought it was a steal. Paid $200 (after service charges and bologna) for two tickets to Summer Sanitarium 2003 for only 5 bands.
So yeah, if it's a band as epic as AC/DC, I don't think $97 is all that bad. Considering Eagles or Van Halen tickets are well in the hundreds.

I paid $212 for a pair of tickets to see The Cure in Vancouver, and drove 14 hours to get there...
