View Full Version : Why Bear Grylls sucks.

These are a few reasons why. (I'll post the link to the article at the end)
On the program, Grylls appears to camp out in quickly-built shelters deep in the wilderness while battling hypothermia and dehydration. But when the cameras stop rolling, Grylls has actually moved to luxurious hotels
According to Weinert, while filming in California's Sierra Nevada mountains - an episode in which Grylls, 33, is seen biting off the head of a snake for breakfast - Grylls actually spent some nights with the show's crew in a lodge outfitted with television, stone fireplaces, hot tubs and Internet access
The Pines Resort at Bass Lake is advertised as "a cozy getaway for families" and is a luxurious hotel with its own spa on a lake.
In another instance, where Grylls was supposed to be surviving on a desert island, he was actually in Hawaii and spent nights at a motel, Weinert said.
The same episode had Grylls building a Polynesian-style raft using only materials around him, including bamboo, hibiscus twine and palm leaves for a sail. Weinert said he actually led a team of builders to construct the raft.
It was then taken apart so that Grylls could be shown building it on camera.
In another episode, viewers watched as Grylls tried to coax what seemed like a wild mustang into a lasso in the Sierra Nevada.
"I'm in luck," he told viewers, apparently coming across four wild horses grazing in a meadow. "A chance to use an old Native American mode of transport comes my way. This is one of the few places in the whole of the U.S. where horses still roam wild."
In fact, Weinert said, the horses were not wild but were brought in by trailer.

I knew there was a reason I liked Daesania.
New episodes of Survivorman Friday!
(a show about an actual survival expert)
Edit: Also, regarding his raft he "made" out of bamboo, before the shot he's wearing a vest and jacket...after he "makes" the raft and is about to sail down this "freezing cold" river, he's clearly shown wearing a life vest underneath his jacket.

Yeah I've hated Bear Grylis for a while for the very reasons you mention. He's a poser and not a very convincing one at that. Les Stroud is superior to him in every way.

I'm with ya, Daesania. I used to love Man vs. Wild until all of this information came out. I felt like I had been lied to, and felt taken advantage of. I may not have been as upset if he had said these things all along, but the deception behind it is really what pissed me off.
Once this stuff came out, I stopped watching the show.

Sad to say this is the last season of Survivor man (http://www.realitytvworld.com/news/report-les-stroud-ending-his-survivorman-discovery-channel-show-7983.php).

He has his other projects. The Alaska Experiment Part 2 is supposed to be coming soon! (I signed up, but didn't get accepted..sigh, totally would have quit my job for that).

What, link please.
Hmm.....well then. Either 1 of 2 things have happened: 1)The show is currently filming, or 2)The show got cancelled
Because on the Alaska Experiment page on Discovery Channel's website used to have a link that said "Sign up for the Alaska Experiment Part 2!", which I did in mid-late June. Now there is nothing about it at all, not even a "AE2 coming soon!"
Really hope that didn't get cancelled.

Really sad that survivor man is getting cancelled. Not really shocked by anything about bear grylls anymore, I've suspected he was a fake since before it was official.

I know its old news (see the date of 2007 on that news article?), but with the new season of survivorman starting last week, i thought it was appropriate to bash his tv counterpart.
Edited to add: Les' alaskan experiment should be starting filming soon I'd imagine, my mother was just talking to me about this today.

Yeah, Bear is a poser. Les Stroud = God.

Les is better. Not only is he alone, he has to do everything TWICE. Once to film himself doing it, then going back, turning off the camera and taking it, and doing whatever it was again. Even if it means going up and down a cliff again.

General consensus is spot-on. Les Stroud is, in fact, THE man.

Plus, Les has a very manly looking chest.
I always thought Bear sucked anyway. But thanks for posting, I'd actually not seen the article before.

I've found the best way to watch Man vs. Wild is to make fun of it. One time my brother and I watched an episode where he was stuck on this snowy mountain...we decided it would be better if Bear was being chased by a yeti. It made the endless footage of him running and sliding down the mountain much more entertaining.
I also lost what little respect for him I had when he bit the head off of that snake. Maybe I'm a bit prejudiced because I have a snake, but that was horrifying.
Now Survivorman is the ****. I just read about Les retiring (for lack of a better word) from it the other day though. Article (http://www.realitytvworld.com/news/report-les-stroud-ending-his-survivorman-discovery-channel-show-7983.php)

I'd never seen that article either. But I always suspected Bear Grylls was a bit of a poser. Ray Mears. Now he's hardcore. I've never seen any of Survivorman. Not sure if we get it in the UK.

I've always known Bear was a big faker. With his camera crew and suspicous edits.
Les Stroud rules. And he plays a mean harmonica.

I read about this a while back.
Apparently there's one episode of Man vs. Wild where if you look closely you can see a freeway in the distance.
Also, I completely agree, Survivorman FTW!

He doesn't say "vitamins" correctly.
He also drank elephant poop. Total suckage.
I wanted to believe that he really was a survivor expert. I kept defending him every time some one accused him of being a phony. I guess it really is true. I hope Survivor Man doesn't do this either.

He pissed into the skin of a rattlesnake he had killed and then drank it a few hours later.
I could have lived without ever having to see that.
