I want to start playing jazz guitar, and I need some influence. Any artists or albums to look out for?

For more traditional jazz/fusion, check out Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Kenny Burrell, John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny, and Al Di Meola. Oh yeah, and there's John Scofield, and, of course, Django.

Al Di Meola - Elegant Gypsy
Wes Montgomery - The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery
    Joe Pass - Joy Spring
    Kenny Burrell - Midnight Blue
Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame (this one has John McLaughlin on guitar)
    Pat Metheny Group - self-titled
    John Scofield - Hand Jive
    Django Reinhadrt - Djangology

I have WAY more experience in the world of jazz piano both in playing and in listening, but this is definitely a good starting point for guitarists. Let me know if you want some deeper cuts later on.

I believe I've actually heard Al Di Meola, so I guess I'll start with him.

okay heres the deal, I was looking through my iPod only to find that the measly 7,000 songs is no where close to where I want it to be, so my simple request is just one list with essential albums, albums that are under appreciated, and albums that are just damn good.

I need new stuff to listen to any genre, any artist, please?

Okay, here's some Danish music, I hope you'll enjoy at least some of it :)

    Kashmir - The Good Life
    Nephew - USADSB
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy - Dizzy Mizz Lizzy
    Veto - Crushing Digits
Tina Dickow - Count to Ten
    Oh No Ono - Yes
    Mew - Frengers

These are all pretty big bands... Couldn't think of anything else at the moment, but these albums are all great.

Lightning Bolt-Ride the Skies -(awesome noise band!)

Zolof the rock & roll destroyer-Jalopy Go far (awesome female power fronted power pop band)

Prong-Cleansing (Metally, I don't know why I like this album but it's neat!)

Authority Zero-A passage in time (an excellent skate punk album)

    Passafire-Submersible (awesome modern reggae)

    :o I could go on...

    Why yes, good sir.

(I smile anytime nu-metal gets brought up on these forums. Doesn't happen enough.)

The ones that will get you the least **** from others (and that are just good) are:

Deftones - White Pony or Around The Fur
    Spineshank - Height Of Callousness
    Skindred - Babylon
    Sevendust - Home or Seasons
    Mushroomhead - XIII or XX
    Mudvayne - L.D. 50
Cold - 13 Ways To Bleed On Stage

I'll go with Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, and Seasons in the Abyss. I've heard that late 80s, early 90s Slayer is when they were at their peak.

Replace Reign in Blood (which I do enjoy) with Show No Mercy, and you've made the right choice.
