how much are the pintechs? do they work with the ion with out any fuss?

The hot items are the 10" and 14", they cost about $35 a piece but you have to provide your own mounting solution. I scored two Roland cymabl arms from Guitar Center, $28 each. Great mounts, they clamp on the tubular rails and are very adjustable. Check an image of them in my set here:

In the pictures I am missing the Pintech 14" that I just got two days ago. Still testing it and I have mixed feelings about it, but it's to early to definitely tell if I like them that much or not :o

I see that DavidShek suggests the pc-10 for a hihat. I might concider that. These cymbals have 1/4 inch hookups as well?

Yep, but they do not come with cables, so you'll have to get those separately. Any 1/4" mono cable will work.

Yes, under the cymbal active area there's a black box with a 1/4" mono jack.

I can see why the 10" is more desirable than the 14". The cymbal is made of very cheap plastic and it warps easily. If the cymbal is small the warping won't be as exaggerated so 10" is more desirable in that sense.

Also, something to keep in mind is the rebound. For the 14" there's little to none, which makes playing a bit harder as you cannot rely on the natural rebound of the material to help you raise the sticks. Perhaps with the 10" is less but I'd be pressed to use it as a hi-hat with no rebound at all. But that's definitely my own style...

well, I have a 1/4 cable already that came with the Ion kit. so I wouldn't need an additional cable. But it's good to know that any mono cable will work.

I have a 3rd (jumped the gun on this one) cymbal from ion coming. I might just leave it in a box and see if I can sell it locally to Ion owners here. As for stands, I can use the existing stands with the ion, no?

I'll have to do some reading up on David's posts to learn more. Warping issue never crossed my mind at all!

I posted in community greatest hits with no responses so I guess this thread worth a try. For all of you out there with the Ion kit, I have a problem. I play using the RB2 kit w/cymbals. I play almost every night when I have time. I really like to crank the volume and get into it. Now my problem is the cymbals are ok if you're tapping lightly but I don't want to tap lightly when I'm into it. I feel like the kit is holding me back in score and fun, almost like I'm only allowed to play with half the energy I want to play with. I don't know if that even makes sense. I also have a huge bubble on my red pad. I am sick of RMA. I play on expert. I can play most of tier 6 without any problems. Most but not all DevilHeads kick my ass. Now my question is, do you think that the Ion kit is the answer for my problems? Some opinions would be great. Thanks in advance. sorry for the derail.

The ION cymbals can be pretty problematic, and they aren't great for really banging on, as they are kind of loud. If you're serious into cymbals, an ION set with custom cymbals from a good electronic drumkit is your best bet. With me, the crash works great, but I'm having sensitivity issues with my hi-hat, and also I find switching between the hi-hat and the blue pad and back again kind of a pain, so now I'm reverting to using the yellow pad a lot more again. The crash is fantastic though, such a big improvement over whacking the green pad. Feels more natural. And the actual pads of the ION kit are fantastic. If you're willing to go the extra mile and trick out your ION kit you'll have something great on your hands, but your mileage may vary with the stock cymbals.

I got mine in yesterday and finally have it set up close to as comfortable as I can get in within 2 days. My problems are that my red pad seems to only be sensitive in the direct center. Farther away from there it gets much less sensitive and I have to bang on it to register. Anywhere on the last inch of the pad and it doesn't really register anything at all. The others pads seem to be better w/ the green one functioning the best.

My cymbals also have some triggering issues. I had to smack the hell out of them (even after reading the thread about resting it in its natural position and give it some leeway. I loosed some screws on the bottom, but wasn't sure which ones were the ones needed to increase its sensitivity. It worked to a degree... it just made more noise as screws rattled or the top of the cymbal itself. If I tightened 'em to the point where the rattle stopped, then so did the sensitivity. If I tap on the plastic itself, even the lightest tap would register a hit, but not on the rubber pad. So right now, the screws are loosened but now the cymbals are louder than before.

Hey guys, I just saw this right now. Yeah you're right. I mistakenly was comparing GHWT kit to the regular rock band 1 kit, duh. So ion has 2 high hats? The actual yellow pad and the hat?
Or is the yellow pad a tom? I don't know what I'm talking about... Where am I. Help.

I wish someone could play on my ion kit and see if it is working right. I'm a small person after all, maybe I just don't have the strength and that's why the pads don't register well? But the pedal definitely sucks (sticky and loose), that is not me.
