Swans: Young God [EP] (1984)
The perfect dosage of Swans from the best era - the whole thing just is a ****ing violent mess, but it doesn't have the weight of an LP, so it stops before it gets old. Definitely a bit of a grower, and requires some high volume, as it chugs along more than it really "rocks" per se. The end result of a good listen is a certain hypnosis and pretty visceral reaction to Gira's clear bloodlust. The true pinnacle of a staggering career.
Non Credo: Impropera (2006)
This album is genuinely terrifying. But that's good avant-prog for you: its unhinged tirades through the history of music squarely from a place of wanting to rock a bit generating some of the most crazed creations in music. The vocal acrobatics on display here far outclass all that purdy B.S. from other classically trained rockers (think Freddie Mercury), and they're certainly a zillion times better than those of the endless swath of crooners available in recent music. The instrumentation here is varied and impressive: several styles and traditions coalesce to create a wholly unique atmosphere. This is very seriously some of the most downright baffling music across which my ears have come.
8.5/10; a listening experience to savor
